기독교 선교의 차원에서 외면할 수 없는 가능성으로서의 한반도 통일에 대한 준비는 매우 중요하다. 특히 한국 통일 상황을 이해하고 상황화하기 위하여 문화인류학적인 시각에서 선교적으로 접근하는 것은 유용한 방법이 될 것이다. 본고는 이를 위하여 경계(境界) 이론을 소개하고, 이것에 의하여 통일의 역사적 사례인 독일 통일을 간단히 살펴보고, 나아가서 한국 통일 상황을 단계별로 알아보고자 한다. 여기서의 경계이론은 정치적인 내용을 배제하고 문화인류학적 견지에 서 경계의 발생과 소멸, 그리고 재형성 등을 고찰하기 위해 활용되었다. 이러한 경계론의 선이해를 위하여 범주와 분류 등의 인문학적인 이해에 근거하여 남북한 간의 경계 유지 상황을 각각의 고상황적 문화 (high-context culture)들의 범주화 및 대립의 상황으로 이해한다. 경계이론은 남북한 통일 상황을 문화적으로 초기 단순화하여 이해하기 위한 일종의 토대적 틀로서 경계는 장벽이자 동시에 번역과 소통 등의 상황화의 장이라는 전제를 도입하였다. 그리고 이 경계는 역동적인 것으로서 경계 유지, 즉 경계화, 그리고 탈경계화, 그 다음에는 새로운 경계의 설정 등으로 변이하는 것이다. 독일 통일도 이와 같은 과정을 겪었음을 자료들을 인용하여 간략히 설명하였는데, 초기 통일 직후의 탈경계의 단계에서는 환희와 흥분의 단계였지만 혼돈과 갈등의 발생하면서 신경계의 단계로 이동하게 됨을 살펴보았다. 그러나 최근 통일 완성의 단계에서는 새로운 통합의 긍정 적인 결과를 보여주고 있었다. 또한 동서독 간의 경계 상에 있는 Kella라 는 마을의 문화기술적인 연구 사례를 참조하여 장차 한국 통일 상황에 대한 단서들을 알아보고자 하였다. 이상의 연구를 통하여 한반도 통일 상황에 대한 단계별 예측을 다음과 같이 시도하였다. 1) 구경계화 단계: 통일 전 단계로서 남북한 간의 여러 차원에서의 뚜렷한 경계화의 상태이다. 2) 탈경계화 단계: 한국 통일의 개시적 단계로서 기존의 여러 경계들, 특히 본고에서는 기존의 문화적 경계들의 붕괴가 발생하는 단계로 보았다. 3) 초기 통합 단계: 어느 정도의 물리적 통합으로 한국 통일이 진전되는 단계이다. 4) 신경계화 단계: 새로운 문화적 경계의 형성이 통일 한국 내부에서 발생하게 되는 단계이다. 그리고 5) 후기 통합 단계: 이것은 물리적 경계만이 아닌 문화적이고 심리적인 경계도 해소되어 다차원적인 통합이 완료되는 단계이다. 본고는 이렇게 단계별로 한국 통일 상황을 예측하고, 그에 따라 한국교회의 다양한 선교적 헌신과 기여를 기대한다.

This article is for the basic understanding of the situation of the unification of Korean Peninsular as the one of the highly possible historical events. It must be so significant for Korean Christianity to comprehend and prepare for that future in the dimension of the cultural-anthropology as well as missiology. The theory of boundary, which is regarded as the effective tool to approach to the unification situation by the cultural-anthropological insights, is briefly introduced, and, moreover, the theory of categorization and sets, etc. are mentioned to explain the concepts of boundary. The unification process initiates by the demolition of a certain boundary between two sets, that is, the stage of out-of-boundary. In other words, the unification typically experiences the maintenance of boundary, out-of-boundary, and the establishment of new boundaries. In order to clarify this phenomena, the case of German unification was explained according to such transition of cultural boundaries. Even though, in the beginning stage of German unification, there have been various negative conflicts and chaos, more positive unification has been accomplished. In addition, Kella, the small German town in the boundary between the East and West Germany, has been simply refered as an ethnographic example of unification. And the situation of Korean unification is tried to be divided into 5 stages by cultural boundary perspectives: 1) the stage of old boundary, 2) the stage of out-of-boundary, 3) the stage of early unification, 4) the stage of new boundary, and 5) the stage of final unification. Consequently, this article tried to investigate the missiological implications on the Korean unification according to the above cultural-anthropological insights
