Cyst nematodes are well known to cause serious yield losses in many important crops producing in Korea such assoybeans and Chinese cabbage. Recently, a new cyst nematode Heterodera trifolii has been recorded in the highland vegetablesgrowing area occurring severe yield losses. As a newly recorded pest, the severity of the nematode is still not clear tomost of the farmers. Identification of this nematode is another big issue as the nematode existed in the field with Heteroderaschachtii. Recent reports revealed that the pest is steadily spreading within the highland areas and has a huge possibilityto spread over Korea. Therefore, it is the high time to set a monitoring or warning systems and test more feasible managementstrategies to prevent the dispersal of this nematode.

Frankliniella intonsa (Trybom) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) is an important pest in protected culture. We assessed fourrepellents (carvacrol, cis-jasmone, methyl jasmonate, and methyl salicylate) of Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande)(Thysanoptera: Thripidae) known from literatures to develop a behavioral management tactic against F. intonsa. We measuredthe repellency of F. intonsa that exposed to 100 times diluted repellents on leaf disc. Repellency was 2.60 times higherin methyl jasmonate followed by methyl salicylate (2.16 times), cis-jasmone (2.15 times) and carvacrol (2.08 times) comparedto control. These results suggest that methyl jasmonate can be incorporated as a component of integrated managementof F. intonsa.

Orius minutus (L.) (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) is a native predators of soft body insects such as mites, thrips, and aphids. We compared 24 h consumption rate of O. minutus with that of a commercialized O. laevigatus (Fieber) on egg andadult stage of Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae). Orius minutus predated 1.4 times more adult T. urticae(58 mites) in 24 h than O. laevigatus. Similarly, O. minutus consumed 128 eggs while O. laevigatus consumed 98 eggsin 24 h without statistical difference. These results suggest that native O. minutus can be applied for the augmentativebiological control after the development of mass-rearing method.

Morphology of antennal sensilla and their distribution were investigated in male and female adults of Plautia stali,a major pest of tree fruits, using scanning electron microscopy. Antennae of P. stali was composed of a scape, a pediceland three flagella in both sexes. Four types of sensilla (s. trichodea, s. basiconica, s. chaetica, s. coeloconica) were identifiedfrom both sexes. Among them, s. trichodea and s. basiconica were multiporous, others are not. They distributed in varyingnumbers. Sexual dimorphism was not shown in the distribution of the four sensilla types. But their distribution was characterizedalong antennal segments in both sexes. This study will be useful in electrophysiological and behavioral studies on theolfactory sensory function of each morphological type of sensilla.

The genus Testudobracon (Braconidae: Braconinae) is reported for the first tine in Korea. The genus is a small genuswith 12 species distributed in the world, of which species are known as ectoparasitoids of the cecidomyiid (Diptera).Testudobracon species are distinguished from other braconid genus by the following characters: terminal flagellomere pointedbut without a prominent spine; mesoscutum largely setae, notauli well developed. In this study, a braconid genus, Testudobracon, is recorded from Korea for the firs time based on Testudobracon pleuralis(Ashmead, 1906). we provided diagnosis, host list and photographs of diagnostic characteristics for this species.
