        The aim of this study was conducted to investigate the proximate and nutritional compositions including mineral, vitamin, amino acids and fatty acids in Korean yam (Dioscorea batatas DECNE.). Carbohydrate (68.1%) possessed the large single constituent of yam. Small amounts of crude protein (16.9%), crude ash (5.8%) and crude fat (2.0%) contents were found. Yam was found to be good sources of essential minerals such as K (1295.5 mg/100 g), Mg (115.3 mg/100 g), Na (99.0 mg/100 g) and Ca (56.5 mg/100 g) but Zn (0.3 mg/100 g) content was low. Relatively abundant vitamin B1 (11.5 mg/100g) could be observed while vitamin A, B3 and B6 were not found. The amino acid analysis revealed that the yam was superior with respect to glutamic acid (1770.6 mg%), lysine (1210.6 mg%) and urea (550.9 mg%). Essential amino acids were calculated to be 2954.5 mg%. The amino acid profiles showed that yam to be limiting in valine and leusine. Palmitic acid and linoleic acid were the most predominant fatty acids with the value of 31.5% and 41.5%, respectively. And the polyunsaturated fatty acids including linoleic acid and linolenic acid were present in a large quantities in yam. And it also contained higher amounts of unsaturated fatty acids compared saturated fatty acids.

        The bioactive compound and antioxidant property of Korean yam (Dioscorea batatas DECNE.) were studied using in vitro methods. Yam available in Korea was analyzed for lycopene, chlorophyll a, b, tannin, phytic acid and total saponin contents. 70% Methanol, 70% ethanol and chloroform–methanol mixture (CM, 2:1, v/v) were used to extract yam. Then the antioxidant activity evaluated through ferrous ion chelating activity, β-carotene bleaching method, lipid peroxidation inhibition and nitric oxide (NO) radical scavenging activity. 70% Methanol extract showed the highest ferrous ion chelating activity and NO radical scavenging activity. And CM extract was the most effective in inhibition of linoleic acid peroxidation evaluated by β-carotene bleaching assay and lipid peroxidation inhibition assay. Based on the results obtained, yam is a potential active ingredient that could be applied in antioxidation as well as bio-health functional food to take a good part in prevention of human diseases and aging.

        The objective of this study was to investigate the antioxidant activity of Korean yam (Dioscorea batatas DECNE.) by different extraction solvents including 70% methanol, 70% ethanol and chloroform–methanol mixture (CM, 2:1, v/v). Raw yam was analyzed for its color property, total phenol content and antioxidant activity. Yam possessed high L* value and H° value, which were 81.64±2.59 and 83.36±0.15, respectively. Raw yam was found to have great antioxidant activity evaluated through ABTS [2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt] radical scavenging activity, DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity, reducing power, and ferric reducing antioxidant power. Total phenol contents of various extracts from raw yam increased in the following order: 70% methanol extract (37.62±0.88 mg CAE/g), 70% ethanol extract (43.38±0.66 mg CAE/g) and CM extract (67.17±0.12 mg CAE/g), respectively. The same trend was also could be found in the ABTS radical scavenging activity, DPPH radical scavenging activity and ferric reducing antioxidant power assays. These results implied that Korean yam might play an important role in antioxidation and serve as the bio-health functional food to take a good part in prevention of human diseases and aging.

        목 적: 이 설문 연구의 목적은 의료민영화와 안경원 법인화 정책에 대한 안경사들의 인식을 조사하는 것 이었다. 방 법: 2014년 6월부터 8월까지 서울 지역에서 근무하는 임상안경사 100명을 대상으로 대면 설문 조사 를 실시하였다. 설문 대상자 가운데 안경원 원장이 48명이고 고용 안경사가 52명이었다. 결 과: 의료민영화와 안경원 법인화 문제에 대한 인식도는 높은 편이었으며, 반대 의견이 매우 많았다. 안경사들은 의료민영화 문제에 대해서는 의료서비스의 소비자로서 반응하고, 안경원 법인화 문제에 대해서 는 공급자로서 반응하는 양상을 나타냈다. 안경원 법인화 문제에 대해서 고용 안경사 집단에 비해 안경원 원 장 집단이 더 강한 반대 의견과 비관적인 예상을 보였다. 결 론: 안경사들은 의료민영화 문제가 어느 정도 안경원 법인화 문제와 연결되어 있다고 인식하고 있었으 나, 그 영향에 대해서는 일반 국민들과 마찬가지로 자신들이 의료서비스의 소비자 위치에 있다고 생각하고 있었다. 고용 안경사들에 비해 안경원 원장들이 안경원 법인화에 더 비관적이고 강하게 반대하고 있었다.

        목 적: 건성안 증후군 대학생을 대상으로 Skindex-29를 이용한 피부과적 삶의 질을 분석하여, 건성안 증후군의 일반적인 특성 및 연관된 문항의 항목별 신뢰도와 타당도를 알아보고자 한다. 방 법: McMonnies 설문을 통해 206명의 건성안 증후군을 선별하였으며, Skindex-29 설문을 통해 피부 과적 삶의 질을 분석하였다. 결 과: 대상자의 피부과적 삶의 질의 전체 점수는 44.84점이였고, 증상 영역, 기능 영역, 감정 영역은 각 각 11.95점, 16.78점, 19.25점이었다. 신뢰도 분석한 결과 Cronbach’s α값이 0.80, 0.87, 0.96로 내적합치 도가 높게 나타났다. 대상자의 일반적인 특성과 삶의 질의 수준별 연관성을 분석한 결과, 증상 영역은 알레르 기 약 복용 여부, 감정 영역은 성별과 음주 여부, 전체 점수에서는 알레르기 약 복용 여부와 유의하여 연관성 이 있었다. 타당도 검증을 위한 ROC곡선에서 음주 여부는 유의하지 않았고 알레르기 약 복용 여부는 피부과 적 삶의 질의 증상 영역에서 AUC값이 0.74를 보이며 유의하였다. 건성안 증후군의 피부과적 삶의 질은 감정 영역에서 가장 낮았으며, 알레르기 약을 복용한 사람일수록 감정 영역의 피부과적 삶의 질이 낮았다. 결 론: 건성안 증후군의 피부과적 삶의 질은 선행연구의 일반 대상자보다 낮았으며, 알레르기 약을 복용 하는 건성안 증후군은 감정 영역의 피부과적 삶의 질이 낮았다. 추후 알레르기 질환을 유발하는 환경적 요인 을 연구하여 건성안 증후군의 피부과적 삶의 질을 높일 수 있는 연구가 필요할 것이다.

        In this study, bulk nickel-carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposites are synthesized by a novel method which includes a combination of ultrasonication, electrical explosion of wire in liquid and spark plasma sintering. The mechanical characteristics of the bulk Ni-CNT composites synthesized with CNT contents of 0.7, 1, 3 and 5 wt.% are investigated. X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy techniques are used to observe the different phases, morphologies and structures of the composite powders as well as the sintered samples. The obtained results reveal that the as-synthesized composite exhibits substantial enhancement in the microhardness and values more than 140 HV are observed. However an empirical reinforcement limit of 3 wt.% is determined for the CNT content, beyond which, there is no significant improvement in the mechanical properties.

        In this study, Fe-Cu-Ni-Mo-C low alloy steel powder is consolidated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) process. The internal structure and the surface fracture behavior are studied using field-emission scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy techniques. The bulk samples are polished and etched in order to observe the internal structure. The sample sintered at 900oC with holding time of 10 minutes achieves nearly full density of 98.9% while the density of the as-received conventionally sintered product is 90.3%. The fracture microstructures indicate that the sample prepared at 900oC by the SPS process is hard to break out because of the presence of both grain boundaries and internal particle fractures. Moreover, the lamellar pearlite structure is also observed in this sample. The samples sintered at 1000 and 1100oC exhibit a large number of tiny particles and pores due to the melting of Cu and aggregation of the alloy elements during the SPS process. The highest hardness value of 296.52 HV is observed for the sample sintered at 900oC with holding time of 10 minutes.

        목 적: 본 연구의 목적은 최근 시력검사와 조제가공, 그리고 제품의 차별화를 기반으로 다양한 형태의 안경원이 탄생하고 있는 경영환경에서 안경원의 관계효익과 경북지역 20대 대학생의 고객가치가 어떠한 관 계를 나타내는지를 확인하고자 하였다. 방 법: 본 연구는 안경원에서 안경테, 안경렌즈, C/L를 구입하였던 217명의 20대 대학생들을 대상으로 설문조사하고 그 데이터를 분석하였다. 데이터 분석은 SPSS 18.0 통계프로그램을 이용하여 빈도분석, 요인 분석, 회귀분석을 실시하여 안경원의 관계효익과 고객가치에 관한 연구 가설을 검증하였다. 결 과: 첫째, 관계효익 중 경제적효익이 가격가치에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 관계효익의 네 요인, 즉 경제적효익, 고객화효익, 사회적효익, 심리적효익이 모두 품질가치에 미약하지만 긍정적인 영향을 미치 는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 관계효익 중 경제적효익이 사회적가치에 긍정적인 영향을 미치며, 넷째, 관계효 익 중 사회적효익이 감정적가치에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 결 론: 본 연구에서는 안경원의 관계효익 중에서 경제적효익이 가격가치와 사회적가치에 중요한 역할을 하는 것과 관계효익의 네 요인이 고객의 품질가치에 약하지만 고르게 영향을 주는 것을 발견하였다. 또한 사 회적효익은 감정적가치에 영향을 미치므로 안경원 경영자는 고객에게 제공되는 경제적효익을 개발하는 노력 뿐만 아니라 안경원을 지속적으로 이용함으로써 획득하게 되는 사회적효익을 높이고 고객이 인식하는 다양 한 가치를 개발하기위한 노력을 기울여야 할 것이다.

        To obtain information on the sanitary of indoor environment in greenhouses used for shiitake cultivation, bacteria associated with larvae and imagoes of Sciaridae flies, pest to shiitake mushroom, were isolated and identified. A total of 1,048 bacterial colonies were isolated from the flies’ larvae and 984 bacterial colonies were isolated from the flies’ imagoes. Based on molecular analysis of the 16S rDNA sequence, Achromobacter xylosoxidans and Tetrathiobacter kashmirensis of β-proteobacteria, Enterobacter asburiae and Raoultella ornithinolytica of γ -proteobacteria, Curtobacterium sp. and Microbacterium thalassium of Actinobacteria, and Penibacillus taichungensis of Firmicutes were identified from the colonies of the flies’ larvae. While, Bacillus megaterium, B. thuringiensis, Lysinbacillus sphaericus and L. fusifomis of Firmicutes, Microbacterium thalassium and Citricoccus parietis of Actinobacteria, and Enterobacter asburiae of γ-proteobacteria were identified from the flies’ imagoes. Some of the isolated bacterial species were known be human pathogens. Overall, the results of this study suggested that mushroom fly carrying human pathogenic bacteria is one of sources impact on the sanitary of indoor environment of greenhouses used for shiitake cultivation.

        목 적: 산소투과율이 낮은 콘택트렌즈의 착용은 각막합병증 발생의 원인이 된다. 산소투과율이 높은 실 리콘 하이드로젤 제품의 사용이 각막합병증 예방에 도움 되기 때문에 국내에서도 다수 출시되었지만, 제품 마다 산소투과율이 많이 다른 상황이다. 일부 제품은 산소투과율이 표기되지 않은 상태로 판매되어 그 정보 가 알려져 있지 않다. 식품의약품안전처의 허가정보를 분석하여 국내에서 판매중인 소프트 콘택트렌즈 제품 의 현황을 살펴보고자 한다. 방 법: 식품의약품안전처에서 허가된 소프트 콘택트렌즈 131종을 대상으로 재질은 실리콘 하이드로젤과 하이드로젤이고, 사용목적은 일반 제품과 미용 제품으로 분류하며, 산소투과율은 각막에 필요한 최소 산소 투과율 12, 눈을 뜬 상태에서 각막부종이 생기지 않을 Dk/t 24, 눈을 감은 상태에서 각막부종이 생기지 않 는 Dk/t 87을 기준으로 분류하여 제품의 특성을 분석하였다. 결 과: 국산 하이드로젤 제품은 산소투과율이 Dk/t 12보다 낮은 제품의 비율이 67.2%(41개)이었고, 수입 하이드로젤 제품은 산소투과율 Dk/t 12보다 높은 제품의 비율이 85.7%(12개)였다. 국산 실리콘 하이드로젤 제품은 산소투과율 Dk/t 24보다 낮은 제품의 비율이 73.8%(31개)이었고 성능이 낮은 Dk/t 12보다 낮은 제 품이 52.4%(22개)로 과반을 차지했다. 수입 실리콘 하이드로젤 제품은 산소투과율 Dk/t 24보다 높은 제품 의 비율이 100%(14개)였고, 연속착용이 가능한 Dk/t 87 이상인 제품의 비율이 42.9%(6개)였다. 결 론: 2011년 10.0%였던 실리콘 하이드로젤 처방률이 2015년 24.0%로 증가하였지만, 국내에서 출시된 실리콘 하이드로젤 제품 가운데 일부 제품이 산소투과율이 표기와 다르거나 또는 표기되지 않아 부작용이 발 생할 수 있으므로 제품선택에 주의가 요구된다.

        [Fe II] emission lines are prominent in the infrared (IR) and important as diagnostic tools for radiative atomic shocks. We investigate the emission characteristics of [Fe II] lines using a shock code developed by Raymond (1979) with updated atomic parameters. We rst review general characteristics of the IR [Fe II] emission lines from shocked gas, and derive their uxes as a function of shock speed and ambient density. We have compiled available IR [Fe II] line observations of interstellar shocks and compare them to the ratios predicted from our model. The sample includes both young and old supernova remnants in the Galaxy and the Large Magellanic Cloud and several Herbig-Haro objects. We nd that the observed ratios of the IR [Fe II] lines generally fall on our grid of shock models, but the ratios of some mid- IR lines, e.g., [Fe II] 35.35 m=[Fe II] 25.99 m, [Fe II] 5.340 m=[Fe II] 25.99 m, and [Fe II] 5.340 m=[Fe II] 17.94 m, are signi cantly o set from our model grid. We discuss possible explanations and conclude that while uncertainties in the shock modeling and the observations certainly exist, the uncertainty in atomic rates appears to be the major source of discrepancy.

        Mammals have 3 pairs of major salivary glands i.e., the parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands. Saliva secretion of these glands is modulated by taste perception. Salivary glands are composed mainly of acinar and ductal cells. Primary saliva is secreted by acinar cells and modified during ductal flow. Recently, of the murine 35 bitter taste receptors, Tas2r108 was expressed at highest levels in the submandibular gland by qPCR. Further, Tas2r108-transfected cells respond to a range of bitter compounds, such as denatonium, quinine, colchicine, diphenidol, caffeine and dapson. The objective of the present study was to characterize the expression of Tas2r108 mRNA in acinar and/or ductal cells of the submandibular gland using in situ hybridization (ISH). Male 42-60 days old DBA2 mice were used in the study. Messenger RNAs were extracted from the submandibular gland for generating digoxigenin (DIG) labeled-cRNA probes. These probes were transcribed in anti-sense and sense orientation using T7 RNA polymerase. Dot blot hybridization was performed using DIG labeled-cRNA probes, in order to estimate integrity and optimal diluting concentration of these probes. Subsequently, ISH was performed on murine submandibular gland to detect Tas2r108 mRNA. Dot blot hybridization data demonstrated that Tas2r108 DIG labeled-cRNA anti-sense probes specifically detected Tas2r108 cDNA. ISH results showed that the anti-sense probes labeled acinar and ductal cells in the submandibular gland, whereas no staining was visible in sense controls. Interestingly, the Tas2r108 expression levels were higher in acinar than ductal cells. These results suggested that Tas2r108 might be more associated with primary saliva secretion than with ductal modification of saliva composition.

        Inclusive design is increasingly gaining attention, as some people find using products difficult after becoming physically impaired, despite daily use. However, making inclusive products is a challenge for designers or companies, as a lack of knowledge and tools stems their low involvement in it. Developing inclusive design tools is thus needed. This study developed criteria to assess upper extremity capabilities corresponding to specific daily activities. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 58 physiatrists and orthopedists. Non-parametric statistics were employed and medians were adopted as representative scores in the assessment criteria based on normality and reliability test results, non-normal data, and strong reliability of respondents in ranking. Consequently, an assessment tool was developed with 14 criteria (divided into range of motion and strength) and capability scores between 0 and 100, which discerned the moderately impaired from the severely disabled and fully capable. Since the doctors agreed to adopt the criteria but assign numeric values, especially for mild impairments, their capability assessment perception was likely influenced by dichotomy. To compensate for these deficits, qualitative or ergonomic approaches are considered simultaneously.

        Tooth development shows dynamic morphological changes from the stages of cap to hard tissue formation and is strictly regulated during development. In the present study, we compared expression and localization of 3 major enamel matrix proteins in rats: amelogenin, enamel and ameloblastin. DD-PCR and RT-PCR revealed differential expression of the major proteins from the cap stage to root stage. Immunofluorescence staining results indicated that amelogenin was not detected in either inner enamel epithelium or reduced enamel epithelium, but highly immunoreactive in preameloblasts and ameloblasts; in addition, it was sporadically expressed in preodontoblasts abutting preameloblasts. Ameloblastin expression was also observed in not only differentiated ameloblasts but also osteoblasts. Immunoreactivity to ameloblastin in ameloblasts was strong in Tomes' processes. Enamelin was exclusively localized along the entire newly formed and maturing enamel. Enamelin was largely localized in near Tomes' processes and enamel rods in maturing enamel. Alendronate treatment resulted in down-regulation of amelogenin and ameloblastin at both transcription and translation levels; whereas, enamelin expression was unchanged in response to the treatment. These results suggested that amelogenin, ameloblastin and enamelin might be implicated in cell differentiation, adhesion of ameloblasts to enamel and enamel crystallization during enamel matrix formation, respectively.

        Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease, which destroys the connective tissue and the alveolar bone. Recently, it has been suggested that the effect of natural substances could be induced into an anti-inflammatory environment. However, the effect of Safflower seed extract (SAF-M) associated with periodontitis has not been investigated yet. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the anti-inflammatory effects of SAF-M. Cytotoxicity was assessed through MTS analysis using hGF and hPDL cells. Periodontitis was induced by injecting LPS into gingival tissue on the maxillary molars of rats (45 μg LPS/one time, 3 times a week for 3 weeks). SAF-M was administered daily at 30 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg. Alveolar bone resorption was evaluated through the micro-CT. hGF and hPDL cells showed differential cytotoxicity in response to SAF-M at 5 mg/ml and 1 mg/ml concentrations. Micro-CT showed reduction of the alveolar bone resorption in the SAF-M treatment group. These results suggested that SAF-M is a potential therapeutic agent for periodontitis.

        Microalgae are of significant importance for future biotechnological applications. Many microalgae banks or laboratories attempt to maintain various microalgae for further research purposes. Cryopreservation has been preferred to reduce a labor-intensive and costly routine sub-culturing. Cryopreservation can also diminish the genetic drift risk. However, cryopreservation as a long term storage of microalgae method are still in developing progress because it cannot be generalized for all microalgae. Microalgae types, cryoprotectant agents (CPAs) types, freezing and thawing methods are the most important factors that should be considered for cryopreservation. In this short review the basic principles and the current advanced of microalgae cryopreservation methods are discussed with a suggested starting parameters for microalgae cryopreservation.
