This study explores the development of English textbooks in North Korea through corpus-based analysis aimed at illuminating the differences between materials produced during the Kim Jong-il and Kim Jong-un regimes. In the context of educational reforms and changing political ideology, this study investigates BNC/COCA-based lexical coverage and the key lexical features of North Korean middle school English textbooks, highlighting the complexity, vocabulary, and readability of the learning materials. The findings revealed that the Kim Jong-un regime had implemented reforms to improve English language education, with increased lexical diversity, textual complexity, and vocabulary exposure. Although no significant differences were found between the two regimes regarding the lexical coverage of textbooks, the Kim Jong-un regime’s textbooks exhibited improvements in diversity, readability, and complexity. This study contributes to a broader understanding of the interplay between political ideology and English language education in North Korea, offering insights that have implications beyond the North Korean context and encouraging reflection on the nation-driven educational reform.

This paper investigates the cognitive processes involved in English word recognition among young EFL learners using eye-tracking methodology. A quasi-experimental mixed method design was used to investigate how young L2 learners engage with basic words, with or without pictorial cues. A total of seventeen 6th-grade pupils from two schools participated in the experiment. The participants were presented with a list of 20 words and were asked to read them aloud while their eye movements were tracked to discern their viewing patterns. Immediately after the reading task, stimulated-recall interviews were conducted to triangulate and validate the participants’ viewing behaviors. Results indicate that participants focused significantly more on the text than the accompanying pictures yet demonstrated better performance in recognizing and reading the words presented in a picture-based mode. Some participants reported that the pictures were not viewed because the words were easy to read. In contrast, others struggled to read certain words due to an over-reliance on their background knowledge, which sometimes led to misinterpretation. These results emphasize the importance of integrating visual cues with word recognition instruction in early language learning contexts, highlighting when and how these cues should be utilized effectively.

This paper explores the professional identities of four Filipino English teachers (FETs) who instruct international students at a language academy in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), a special district for the Philippines’ globalization. Employing a narrative inquiry approach, data was gathered through individual interviews, and subsequently analyzed using a thematic analysis framework. The findings indicate that the participants assume three distinct roles within the academy. As experts in English language teaching, they consider themselves the equal of, or even superior to, native English-speaking teachers, which they attribute to their language proficiency, pedagogical skills, and content-based teaching. In their role as educational caretakers, they prioritize their students’ well-being, providing motivation for English language learning, and offering emotional support. Furthermore, they identify themselves as international teachers, having deliberately chosen BGC as their career destination to foster multiculturalism and global citizenship. This study is of particular significance, as it scrutinizes the roles of FETs, frequently categorized as “non-native teachers,” within the context of globalization.

본 연구의 일차적 목적은 유연근무제 활용 만족도가 공무원의 일과 삶의 균형 수준에 미치는 영향을 통계적으로 검증하고자 한다. 추가적으로, 유연근무제 활용 만족도와 일과 삶의 균형 수준 간의 관계에 있어 공무원의 결혼 여부와 맞벌이 여 부 변수가 갖는 조절효과를 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구의 목적 달성과 가설 검증을 위해 우리나라 D 자치단체 공무원을 대상으로 2021년 9월 10일부터 9월 24일까지 설문조사를 수행하였다. 응답자는 모두 정규직 신분의 지방직 공무원이며, 통계분 석에 활용된 응답자 수는 총 457명이다. 본 연구의 가설검증을 위해 활용된 통계분 석 방법은 기초통계분석, 상관관계분석, 그리고 회귀분석이다. 분석 결과, 유연근무 제 활용 만족도 수준과 일과 삶의 균형 수준 간은 통계적으로 유의미한 양의 관계가 있음이 검증되었다. 또한, 공무원의 결혼 여부와 맞벌이 여부 변수들은 모두 유연근 무제 활용 만족도 수준과 일과 삶의 균형 수준 간의 관계를 부분적으로 조절하는 효과가 있음이 검증되었다. 본 연구가 갖는 이론적 기여 및 실무적 시사점은 아래와 같다. 첫째, 본 연구는 유연근무제의 효과 연구에 치중했던 국내 유연근무제 연구의 주요 흐름에 유연근무제 활용 만족도 관련 정량적 연구를 수행함으로써 이론적 확 장에 기여할 수 있다. 둘째, 본 연구의 통계분석 결과는 공공조직에서 유연근무제 관련 제도 개선과 정책 환류를 할 경우, 공무원의 결혼 여부와 맞벌이 여부에 따른 수요자 맞춤형 유연근무제를 설계해야 한다는 점을 제시하고 있다.

This scholarly investigation delves into the legal complexities arising from the People’s Republic of China’s high-altitude balloons entering US airspace. By analyzing landmark cases, such as the Lockerbie incident, this study emphasizes the urgent need for clear liability norms in international airspace. The 2023 Montana Incursion served to clarify the self-defense and proportionality principles under international law. This study examines the nature of these balloons to determine whether they fall under international accords such as the Chicago Convention. It also explores military classifications and legal ambiguities surrounding non-combatant operators in armed conflicts. This paper identifies gaps in the principles of privacy and ethics concerning intelligence gathering within sovereign boundaries. It advocates for new multilateral treaties with geofencing standards to regulate high-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles. This author aims to fortify legal frameworks based on technological advances.

The Government of Vietnam recently issued a Strategy for Intellectual Property 2030 and amended the Law on Intellectual Property in 2022 for the economic development of Vietnam through stimulating innovation and creativity. Many solutions are recommended to foster the integration of research and development, and intellectual property such as recycling, water cleaning, treatment of poisonous exhausted air, energy saving, green technology for conserving ecosystems. To have more inventions and patents, Vietnam needs to protect its intellectual property rights (IPRs) involving all its various sectors and entities more. However, the current status of IPRs protection in Vietnam shows limitations in this field due to lack of appropriate legal rules on civil and criminal sanctions. This article will give an overview of IPRs protection in Vietnam and then analyze some current provisions relating to civil and criminal sanctions for IPRs infringement based on the experiences of some foreign countries. It will also recommend some solutions for overcoming these challenges.

Recently, domestic fishing production of Japanese horse mackerel has been continuously decreasing. To achieve sustainable fishing of this species, it is essential to acquire its target strength (TS) for accurate biomass estimation and to study its ecological characteristics. To date, there has been no TS research using a broadband echosounder targeting Japanese horse mackerel. In this study, for the first time, we synchronized an underwater camera with a broadband frequency (nominal center frequency of 200 kHz, range: 160-260 kHz) to measure the TS according to the body size (16.8-35.5 cm) and swimming angle of the species. The relationship between Japanese horse mackerel length and body weight showed a general tendency for body weight to increase as length increased. The pattern of the frequency spectra (average values) by body length exhibited a similar trend regardless of body length, with no significant fluctuations in frequency observed. The lowest TS value was observed at 243 kHz while the highest TS values were recorded at 180 and 257.5 kHz. The frequency spectra for the swimming angles appeared to be flat at angles of –5, 0, 30, 60, 75, and 80° while detecting more general trends of frequency spectra for swimming angle proved challenging. The results of this study can serve as fundamental data for Japanese horse mackerel biomass estimation and ecological research.

This study critically examines the integration of ILO Convention C111 into Vietnamese labour law, specifically examining its impact on sex-based discrimination. Employing feminist legal methodology, it assesses the reflection of the Convention’s anti-discrimination principles in national legislation and their effectiveness in promoting workplace gender equality in Vietnam. Preliminary findings suggest that, despite the Convention’s influence, there are significant obstacles to the full achievement of its objectives, largely due to socio-cultural and economic factors. The paper underscores the practical challenges of aligning the international labour standards with local laws preventing the implementation of C111’s provisions in combating gender-based discrimination in an employment setting. It argues that achieving true gender equality in employment transcends the simple adoption of international norms; it necessitates a holistic and profound approach. These insights are crucial for enhancing labour laws so as to foster genuine gender equality and emphasising the importance of practical implementation alongside the harmonisation of international standards.

본 연구는 해외자회사의 성과에 미치는 현지 자선활동의 긍정적 효과가 자회사가 위치한 현지 산 업환경에 따라 어떻게 달라질 수 있는지를 실증적으로 분석한다. 한국에 진출한 544개의 다국적 기업 자회사들의 자선활동과 기업성과를 분석한 결과, 자선활동의 영향이 현지 산업의 풍부성 (Munificence)과 복잡성(Complexity)에 따라 달라짐을 확인하였다: 풍부성이 높은 산업에서는 자선활동의 영향이 강화되었으나, 복잡성이 높은 산업에서는 그 영향이 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 해외자회사의 자선활동이 현지 산업의 환경을 고려하여 실행되었을 때 성과를 향상 시키는 전략적 도구가 될 수 있음을 시사한다. 본 연구는 현지 산업환경이 해외자회사의 자선활동 이 성과에 미치는 영향을 제한하거나 확대하는 하나의 요인임을 제시하며, 이를 통해 현지 자선활 동의 전략적 가치에 대한 논의를 확장하고 기업의 사회적 책임(CSR) 문헌에 기여한다.

이 논문은 현대 환경 위기 시대에 한국기독교의 상황에서 생태-전도 개념을 탐구한다. 복음전파와 밀접한 관련이 있는 심각해지는 생태위기의 상황에서 복음전파에 대한 이해를 살핀다. 이 연구는 특히 세속화된 사회 환경에서 개인의 경험과 실질적인 문제 해결의 중요성을 강조되는 현대사회 의 특성을 고려하며, 한국교회 전도가 연역적 방식에서 귀납적 방식으로 전환하고 있음을 다룬다. 생태-전도는 생태 신학과 귀납적-사명 모델의 학제간 대화를 통한 융복합 접근 방식으로 이해되며, 이 접근법의 공통 가치에는 상호 의존성, 지속 가능성, 사회 정의, 그리고 적극적인 커뮤니티 참여가 포함된다. 한국기독교에서의 세 가지 사례연구를 통해, 이 연구는 생태-전도가 실제로 어떻게 실행되는지를 보여주며, 환경 복원 노력에 비신자들을 참여시키고 의미 있는 방식으로 복음을 경험하게 함으로써 생명 중심의 복음전파를 촉진하고자 한다. 결론적으로, 생태-전도는 기독 교인들이 그들의 행동을 통해 복음의 가르침을 구현하고, 생태위기에 대응 하는 것이 그들의 더 넓은 세계적 사명의 중요한 부분임을 인식하도록 촉구한다.
