        The purpose of this study was to investigate selected nutrient intakes, dietary atherogenesity, energy balance and activity level of college students. One hundred and thirty one students (61 males and 70 females) made their three-day dietary records and one-day activity records along with one-day dietary records. BMI of the surveyed students was 22.33 for males and 20.28 for females. Average calorie intakes of male and female students was respectively 2166.20㎉ and 1793.60㎉. Females had slightly higher fiber intakes than males in terms of fiber g/1000㎉. Carbohyrate, protein and fat ratios in energy composition of males and females were respectively 56.62 : 15.33 : 24.70 and 57.64 : 16.49 : 25.79. Average cholesterol intakes of male and female students were 295.66㎎ and 259㎎ respectively. The male showed higher saturated fat intake, and had higher atherogenic indices of diets such as cholesterol index(CI) and cholesterol-saturated fat index(CSI) than the female. Males spent an average of 1039.00㎉/day compared to females of 687.93㎉/day for all physical activities. Most students participated in light(100% of males and females) and moderate(33% of males and 3% of females) activities level. Few students spent time at severe and very severe activity level. Seventeen of the 131 students were in positive energy balance whereas 83% were in negative balance. Both genders with positive energy balance tended towards smaller weight and BMI, and larger food intakes than those with negative energy balance. Students with positive energy balance had higher saturated fat intakes and dietary atherogenic scores of CI and CSI than the counterparts with negative energy balance. Males with positive energy balance had decreased physical activity and daily energy expenditure whereas increased food and saturated fat intakes. Females with positive energy balance had significantly increased food, saturated fat and sugar intakes.

        Provider-oriented weather information has been rapidly changing to become more customer-oriented and personalized. Given the increasing interest in wellness and health topics, the demand for health weather information, and biometeorology, also increased. However, research on changes in the human body according to weather conditions is still insufficient due to various constraints, and interdisciplinary research is also lacking. As part of an effort to change that, this study surveyed medical practitioners at an actual treatment site, using questionnaires, to investigate what kind of weather information they could utilize. Although there was a limit to the empirical awareness that medical staff had about weather information, most respondents noted that there is a correlation between disease and weather, with cardiovascular diseases (coronary artery disease (98.5%) and hypertension (95.9% ), skin diseases (atopic dermatitis (100%), sunburn (93.8%)) being the most common weather-sensitive ailments. Although there are subject-specific differences, most weather-sensitive diseases tend to be affected by temperature and humidity in general. Respiratory and skin diseases are affected by wind and solar radiation, respectively.

        To prevent increasing instances of heat-related illnesses due to heat waves generated by climate change, a customized thermal environment index should be developed for outdoor workers. In this study, we conducted sensitivity analysis of the Masan harbor during a heat wave period (August 9th to 15th, 2013) using the MENEX model with metabolic rate and clothing-insulation data, in order to obtain realistic information about the thermal environment. This study shows that accurate input data are essential to gather information for thermophysiological indices (PST, DhR, and OhR). PST is sensitive to clothing insulation as a function of clothing. OhR is more sensitive to clothing insulation during the day and to the metabolic rate at night. From these results, it appears that when exposed to high-temperature thermal environments in summer, wearing highly insulated clothing and getting enough rest (to lower the metabolic rate) can aid in preventing heat-related illnesses. Moreover, in the case of high-intensity harbor work, quantification of allowed working time (OhR) during heat waves is significant for human health sciences.

        The effect of weather on disease was investigated based on results reported in academic papers. Weather-sensitive disease was selected by analyzing the frequency distributions of diseases and correlations between diseases and meteorological factors (e.g., temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind speed). Correlations between disease and meteorological factors were most frequently reported for myocardial infarction (MI) (28%) followed by chronic ischemic heart disease (CHR) (12%), stroke (STR) (10%), and angina pectoris (ANG) (5%). These four diseases had significant correlations with temperature (meaningful correlation for MI and negative correlations for CHR, STR, and ANG). Selecting MI, as a representative weather-sensitive disease, and summarizing the quantitative correlations with meteorological factors revealed that, daily hospital admissions for MI increased approximately 1.7%-2.2% with each 1℃ decrease in physiologically equivalent temperature. On the days when MI occurred in three or more patients larger daily temperature ranges (2.3℃ increase) were reported compared with the days when MI occurred in fewer than three patients. In addition, variations in pressure (10 mbar, 1016 mbar standard) and relative humidity (10%) contributed to an 11%-12% increase in deaths from MI and an approximately 10% increase in the incidence of MI, respectively.

        사람의지방줄기세포는지방조직내에존재하는 줄기세포로 얻기 쉽고, 골수줄기세포와유사한특징을 가지고있다. 그러나 지방을 추출하는 과정, 공여자의 나이, 체질량, 추출 부위에 따라 세포의 특성이 달라지며, 이질적인 세포군을 얻게 된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 허벅지 지방에서 유래한 줄기세포 특성 분석 및 중배엽, 내배엽성 세포로의 분화능을 알아보았다. 허벅지 유래 줄기세포는 골수줄기세포와 유사한 섬유아세포와 유사한 모양을 보였으며, 체외에서 56.5번의 분열을 하였고, 약 5×1022개의 세포를 얻을 수 있었다. 이들은 SCF, Oct4, nanog, vimentin, CK18, FGF5, NCAM, Pax6, BMP4, HNF4a, nestin, GATA4, HLA-ABC, HLA-DR과 같은 유전자를 발현하였으며, Oct4, Thy-1, FSP, vWF, vimentin, desmin, CK18, CD54, CD4, CD106, CD31, a-SMA, HLA-ABC 등과 같은 단백질을 발현하였다. 또한 이들은 지방, 골, 연골 세포와 같은 중배엽성 세포로 분화하였고, 더욱이 인슐린 분비세포와 같은 내배엽성 세포로도 분화하였다. 결론적으로, 사람의 허벅지 유래 줄기세포는 골수 줄기세포와 유사하게 체외에서 증식이 가능하였으며, 유전자 및 단백질 발현 패턴을 가지고 있었으며, 다양한 세포로 분화 가능하였다. 이러한 결과로 미루어 보아 허벅지 지방유래 줄기세포는 골수 줄기세포를 대체할 수 있는 세포치료제의 재료가 될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

        줄기세포를 임상에 적용하기 위해서는 체외에서 증식 과정이 필수적이다. 그러나 배아줄기세포와는 달리 성체줄기세포는 체외에서 증식할 경우 일정시간이 지나면 줄기세포의 특성을 잃기 때문에 임상사용에 있어 제한점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위해 줄기세포의 특성을 잃지 않게 세포를 보존하는 방법이 필요하며, 본 연구에서는 탯줄 유래 줄기세포를 동결 보존한 후 해동시켜 줄기세포의 특성을 분석하였다. 사람의 탯줄 유래 세포를 분리하여 체외에서 배양한 후 2번째 또는 3번째 계대의 세포를 25% FBS와 10% DMSO가 첨가된 냉동배양액에 넣어 196℃에서 동결보존한 후, 6개월 뒤에 해동시켜 세포의 성장 속도와 유전자 및 단백질 발현을 살펴보았다. 냉동 보존한 후 세포를 해동시킨 결과74%의 생존율을 보였으며, 이 세포를 체외에서 배양하였을 경우, 냉동보존하기 전의 세포와 유사하게 방추사 모양의 섬유아세포의 형태를 나타냈다. 또한, 성장 속도 역시 냉동보존하기 전의 세포와 똑같이 10번째 계대까지 배양되었으며, 42번분열 능력을 나타냈다. RT-PCR 결과, 냉동 전후 세포 모두에서 Oct-4, nanog, SCF, NCAM, nestin, GATA4, BMP4, HLA-1 유전자는 모두 발현하였으며, Brachyury와 HLA-DR은 발현하지 않았다. 면역세포 화학 염색 결과, 배아줄기세포 단백질로 알려진 SSEA-3, -4, Oct-4 그리고 중간엽줄기세포 단백질인 Thy-1은 모두 발현하였으며, vimentin, fibronectin, HLA-1, HCAM, ICAM 모두 발현하였다. 그러나 SSEA-4과 Thy-1, vimentin, fibronectin, HLA-1는 냉동보존한 후 배양된 탯줄유래 세포에서 발현량이 증가하는 양상을 보였으며, CD44와 CD54는 감소하는 양상을 나타냈다. 또한, 조직적합성복합체 항원인 HLA-DR은 냉동보존 전후 탯줄 유래 세포에서 모두 발현하지 않았다. 이와 같이 유전자와 단백질의 발현은 냉동보존하기 전후의 탯줄 유래 세포에서 큰 차이가 없었다. 냉동 보존된 탯줄 유래 세포는 세포의 분열능력과 유전자 및 단백질의 발현이 냉동 보존 전 세포와 유사한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 냉동보존법이 임상적으로 세포 치료 시 적절한 세포의 수나 시간을 맞추는데 효과적인 방법이 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
