        The present study investigated the urinary tract toxicity of melamine alone or in combination with cyanuric acid in rats. Male rats were orally administered melamine alone (800 mg/kg) or melamine plus cyanuric acid (50 mg/kg each) for 3 consecutive days. Although melamine treatment did not show any significant difference in body weight, kid- ney or urinary bladder weight, serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN) or creatinine levels, it caused a decrease in urinary pH and mild histopathological alterations in the kidney and urinary bladder. In contrast, co-administration of melamine and cyanuric acid induced a decrease in body weight, an increase in kidneys and urinary bladder weights, and an elevation in serum BUN and creatinine levels, which were not observed in animals treated with melamine alone. His- topathological examination showed that the incidence and severity of histopathological lesions in the kidney and uri- nary bladder were much higher than those in the melamine group. Urinalysis revealed an increase in urine occult blood, leukocytes and protein and a decrease in urinary pH. These results indicate that concomitant administration of cyanuric acid synergistically potentiated the urinary tract toxicity induced by melamine in rats. In this study, we first demon- strated the synergistic toxic effects of melamine in combina- tion with cyanuric acid on urinary bladder and urinalysis in rats.

        This study was performed to investigate the anti-obesity and anti-lipidemic ability of linalool (LL) in ApoE deficient mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD). Mice were divided into four experimental groups of eight each. Mice in the control group received a basic diet and oral repeated dose of the vehicle only for 12 weeks; mice in the HFD group received a HFD and oral repeated dose of the vehicle only for 12 weeks; and the HFD&LL25 and HFD&LL50 groups received a HFD and oral repeated dose of LL 25 and 50 mg/kg/day for 12 weeks, respectively. Mice in the HFD group showed a significant increase in body weight, spleen weight, and adipose tissue weight, compared with the control group. An increase in the serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase activities, total cholesterol (T-CHO), triglyceride (TG), and low density lipoprotein cholesterol was also observed in the HFD group. Histopathological examinations showed severe liver injuries, characterized by extensive fatty changes and hepatocyte degeneration/necrosis. On the contrary, oral administration with LL resulted in significantly improved HFD-induced obesity and hyperlipidemia, indicated by a decrease in adipose tissue weight, T-CHO, TG, and histopathological lesions. The results indicate that LL suppressed HFD-induced obesity, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, and hepatic steatosis, suggesting that LL might be a promising adjuvant therapy for treatment of these metabolic disorders related to corpulence.

        This study aims to estimate the in vivo hair growth effects of Dansam-Samultang. A total of 40, six-week-old C578L/ 6 male mice were classified into four groups (10 in each group): Control (C, distilled water), Positive control (PC, minoxidil 3%), Experimental I (El, Dansam-Samultang ethanol extact 2%), and Experimental 2 (E2, Dansam-Samultang toner type 2%). Samples (150 t`l) were applied percutaneously on the back, once a day, six days a week, for four weeks. Water and feed conswnption, and body weight were measured once a week, in addition, macroscopic hair growth was observed once a week. On the second and fourth week, we took skin tissues after an autopsy, and measured the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and ` -glutamyl transpeptidase (r -GT) enzyme activity, and mRNA development of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-l), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and transforming growth factor-fl I (TGF-fl I). There were no significant differences among the groups in water and feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed efficiency. In a macroscopic observation, hair growth effects showed in order of PC, El, E2, and C groups. Both ALP and 7 -GT enzyme activity showed significant increase (p<0.05) for the PC, El and E2 groups, compared to the C group. En the mRNA gene expressions of hair growth factors, IGF-1 and VEGF. were significantly greater for the PC, El and E2, compared to that of the C group, but significantly lower (p`<O.O5) in the mRNA expression of inhibitory factor, TGF- fi 1. From these results, it is estimated that Dansam-Samultang has positive effects on hair growth or hair loss prevention.

        팥꽃나무과 방향성 수지질의 상록성 교목인 침향을 80% MeOH로 침지 추출하여 얻어진 추출물에 대해 CH2Cl2, EtOAc 및n-BuOH로 순차 용매 분획하였고, 얻어진 결과물에 대하여 녹차의 항산화 성분으로서도 잘 알려져 있는 천연 항산화제인 (+)-catechin을 대조군으로 하여 DPPH, ABTS+ 라디칼 소거법에 의한 항산화활성 평가를 실시한 결과, 항산화 활성은 시료의 처리농도에 비례하게 효능을 나타내는 것으로 확인되었으며 그중에서도 DPPH 라디칼 소거활성은 페놀성 화합물의 함량이 상대적으로 높은 CH2Cl2 가용부에서 26.1±4.4 μg/mL, EtOAc 가용부에서 24.8±3.9 μg/mL의 우수한 IC50값을 나타내었다. 또한 ABTS+ 라디칼 소거능은 CH2Cl2, EtOAc 및n-BuOH 가용부에서 각각 5.3±0.4 μg/mL, 5.5±0.4 μg/mL 활성이 확인 되었으며, 총 페놀함량과의 강한 상관관계가 시사되었고 페놀성의 활성물질의 존재가 시사되었다. 또한, 항비만 활성과 관련된 pancreatic lipase 저해활성을 측정한 결과, 오일의 형태로 얻어진 CH2Cl2 가용부의 IC50값은 1.1±0.3 μg/mL의 저해율을 나타내었으며 이는 대조군인 orlistat에 비해 약하나 추출물 상태임을 고려할 때 단일물질로 정제할 경우 더욱 우수한 효능의 화합물이 존재할 가능성을 시사하였다. 향후 이들 식의약품 소재개발을 위한 구체적인 자료 수립을 위하여 효소활성을 나타내는 성분들에 대해 활성추적탐색법(activity-guided isolation)에 따라 활성물질을 추적, 분리하는 연구를 통한 효능물질의 동정 및 활성 기작에 대한 연구가 필요하며, 침향의 식물 화학적 성분연구에 대한 기초자료로 활용가능하리라 사료된다.

        본 연구에서는 백합과에 속하는 덩굴성 관목인 청미래덩굴 70% 에탄올 추출물과 열수 추출물의 항산화 및 항당뇨에 대한 활성을 연구하였다. 총 폴리페놀 함량 과 플라보노이드 함량 측정, 전자공여능, ABTs 소거능, SOD 유사활성능, xanthine oxidase 저해활성, ACE 저해활성, TBARs측정, PF값 측정 및 α-glucosidase 와 α-amylase 의 저해활성을 측정하였다. 그 결과 총 폴리페놀 함량과 플라보노이드 함량은 에탄올 추출물에 함유량이 더 많았으며, 전자공여능, ABTs 소거능, SOD 유사활성능, xanthine oxidase 저해활성, ACE 저해활성, TBARs 측정, PF값 측정 결과 모두 청미래 덩굴 열수 추출물보다 에탄올 추출물의 활성이 우수하였다. 또한 α-glucosidase 와 α-amylase 의 저해활성을 측정한 결과 에탄올 추출물의 활성이 열수 추출물보다 우수하였다. 이상의 검증 결과를 종합하여 볼 때 청미래 덩굴의 에탄올 추출물의 항산화 및 항 당뇨 활성이 우수하였고, 차후 항산화 및 항 당뇨 예방물질 소재로서의 활용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

        Recently, the navigation risk is increasing significantly with growing of vessels' volume and propelling marine facilities, water bridges and port development etc. As a result, Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs enacted a new law called MSA(Maritime Safety Audit) as a comprehensive maritime traffic safety management scheme in order to ensure safety improvements from the early planning stage to post managing of the development which affect the maritime traffic environment. MSA as a tool for improving maritime traffic safety is a formal safety diagnosis assessment in the existing or future ship's fairway by an independent audit institute. It examines the potential hazards of maritime traffic safety about the port development, if necessary, and is to ensure the implementation of appropriate safety measures. The primary purpose of MSA is to identify potential risk elements affecting safe navigation. This paper is aimed to introduce the backgrounds, the necessity and efficiency of MSA and also to describe some technical standards and diagnostic procedures.
