The genus Margarinotus Marseul, 1854 is one of the highly diverse groups of Histeridae (Histerinae), consisting more than 100 described species in the world. About 80 species are known to distributed in Palaearctic region, among them, 11 species have been reported from Korea. In this study, we report a new species, Margarinotus pseudoboleti sp. nov. and a new record, Margarinotus yezoensis Ôhara from Korea. Also, we provide a revised taxonomic key for Korean Margarinotus, including above two species and images of adults.
Two new records of subgenus Platysoma Leach, 1817 are identified from Korea: Platysoma (Platysoma) takehikoi Ôhara, 1986 and Platysoma (Platysoma) vagans Lewis, 1884. Herein, we provide a key to species of subgenus Platysoma, with diagnoses and images for newly recorded species.
The genus Microrhagus Dejean, 1833 is reviewed with four species from Korea: Microrhagus foveolatus (Fleutiaux, 1923), Microrhagus jejuensis sp. nov., Microrhagus mystagogus (Fleutiaux, 1923), and Microrhagus ramosus Fleutiaux, 1902. Herein, we provide a key to species of Korean Microrhagus, with diagnoses and photographs for each species.
Gelechioidea is the superfamily that contains diverse groups comprising over 16,000 species in worldwide. It was estimated that only 25% of the species diversity of the Gelechioidea has been described. In this study, DNA barcoding was assessed based on cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) for the 154 morphologically identified Korean gelechioids. The results of three molecular species delimitation methods were consistent for 72% with their morphological identifications. Based on molecular operational taxonomic unit (MOTU) estimation, we discussed on discordant groups including barcode sharing pairs and cryptic species.
Since the citrus flatid planthopper, Metcalfa pruinosa (Say, 1830), was firstly reported from Korea, they are rapidlyspreading on a national scale and causing serious damages on many valuable crops. Until now, Gangwon Province israrely spread except few south-west area, Wonju and Hoengseong. But after recent investigation in Gangwon Province, its additional distributions are verified in several regions. Also, we analyzed the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit-I(COI) gene by neighbor joining method to identify whether populations of M. pruinosa in Gangwon Province show samegenetic composition with existing populations.
The genus Dirrhagofarsus Fleutiaux, 1935 is firstly reported from Korea with three species, Dirrhagofarsus lewisi (Fleutiaux,1900), D. modestus (Fleutiaux, 1923), and D. unicolor (Hismatsu, 1960). Among them, D. unicolor was described asa ‘form(=f.)’ of D. modestus by Hismatsu (1960). In this study, we re-establish the status of this species as proper species,Dirrhagofarsus unicolor. We provided a key to Korean Dirrhagofarsus species, diagnoses, and photographs for each species.
False click beetles have been barely studied in the Korean peninsula. As a result of the present study, a total of 22 species belonging to 14 genera of Eucnemidae are reviewed from Korea, including two new species and 15 new records. Also, we conducted molecular phylogenetic study of the family Eucnemidae for estimating monophyly based on molecular fragments of mitochondrial protein coding gene (cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene, COI) and two nuclear ribosomal RNA genes (18S rRNA and 28S rRNA) by Bayesian Inference (BI) and Maximum Likelihood (ML) analysis. The result of the phylogenetic analyses indicated that Eucnemidae is a monophyletic group in Elateroidea, however, mostly form paraphyly compared to previous classification in subfamily level.
The genus Bioxylus Fleutiaux, 1923 is reported for the first time in Korea with three species, Bioxylus natsumiae Watanabe, 2009, B. pilosellus Hisamatsu, 1959 and B. personatus Mamaev, 1976. Diagnosis of the genus Bioxylus, a key to species and illustrations are provided.
A total of 13 species of Eucnemidae are recognized from Korea, including 11 species new to Korea. Descriptions, illustrations and keys to each species are provided.
Three species of the genus Isorhipis Lacordaire, 1835 are reviewed in Korea. Among them, I. banghaasi and I. minuta are reported for the first time in Korea. Description of genus Isorhipis, keys for identification each species and figures of external morphology are given.
