        There is evidence that the luminosities of Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) depend on their environments. While the impact of this trend on estimating cosmological parameters is widely acknowledged, the origin of this correlation is still under debate. In order to explore this problem, we first construct the YONSEI (YOnsei Nearby Supernova Evolution Investigation) SN catalog. The catalog consists of 1231 spectroscopically confirmed SNe Ia over a wide redshift range (0.01 < z < 1.37) from various SN surveys and includes light-curve fit data from two independent light-curve fitters, SALT2 and MLCS2k2. For a sample of 674 host galaxies, we use the stellar mass and the star formation rate data in Kim et al. (2018). We find that SNe Ia in low-mass and star-forming host galaxies are 0.062 ± 0.009 mag and 0.057 ± 0.010 mag fainter than those in high-mass and passive hosts, after light-curve corrections with SALT2 and MLCS2k2, respectively. When only local environments of SNe Ia (e.g., locally star-forming and locally passive) are considered, this luminosity difference increases to 0.081 ± 0.018 mag for SALT2 and 0.072 ± 0.018 mag for MLCS2k2. Considering the significant difference in the mean stellar population age between the two environments, this result suggests that the luminosity evolution of SNe Ia with redshift is most likely the origin of the environmental dependence.

        The passivation of AZ91D Mg alloys through plasma anodization depends on several process parameters, such as power mode and electrolyte composition. In this work, we study the dependence of the thickness, composition, pore formation, surface roughness, and corrosion resistance of formed films on the electrolyte temperature at which anodization is performed. The higher the electrolyte temperature, the lower is the surface roughness, the smaller is the oxide thickness, and the better is the corrosion resistance. More specifically, as the electrolyte temperature increases from 10 to 50 oC, the surface roughness (Ra) decreases from 0.7 to 0.15 μm and the corrosion resistance increases from 3.5 to 9 in terms of rating number in a salt spray test. The temperature increase from 10 to 50 oC also causes an increase in magnesium content in the film from 25 to 63 wt% and a decrease in oxygen from 66 to 21 wt%, indicating dehydration of the film.

        Background: Spontaneous use of the upper extremities on the affected side of patients with stroke is a meaningful indicator of recovery and may vary by the age or dominant hand of patients. No prior study has reported changes in actual amount of use test (AAUT) and motor activity log (MAL)-28 according to age and handedness in healthy adults, and AAUT inter-rater reliability for assessment of healthy adults. Objects: This study aimed to (1) research the differences in AAUT and MAL-28 according to age and handedness in healthy adults, and (2) determine the inter-rater reliability of the AAUT. Methods: Seventy healthy adults participated in this study. The MAL-28 was assessed by dividing 61 subjects into young right-handed (n1=20), young left-handed (n2=21), and older right-handed (n3=20) groups. The AAUT was assessed by dividing 63 subjects into young right-handed (n1=25), young left-handed (n2=18), and older right-handed (n3=20) groups. Student’s t-test and the Wilcoxon signedrank test were used for statistical analysis. Results: The Amount of Use (AOU) scale values for each group showed no significant differences between age groups and handedness groups in the MAL-28 (p>.05). The AAUT AOU scale value showed significant differences regarding dominant handedness in the AAUT (p<.05), but no significant differences according to age (p>.05). (2) Inter-rater reliability of the AAUT was excellent, except few items (item 9, 11, and 12). Conclusion: Although both the MAL-28 and the AAUT measured how much participants used their dominant arms in healthy subjects, the AAUT only showed significantly higher dominant arm use in left hander than the right hander. In addition, the inter-rater reliability of the AAUT was excellent. Current results can be utilized as a basic information when clinicians develop rehabilitation strategies, and AAUT was shown to be a reliable evaluation tool for measurement of upper extremity use in Korean adults, based on the reliability demonstrated by this study.

        노로바이러스는 전 세계적으로 산발적인 발병 관련 비세균성 위장염의 주요 원인 물질이다. 노로바이러스 검출을 위해 역전사 실시간 PCR (RT qPCR)이 그 민감도와 특이성으로 인해 주요 수단으로 빠르게 자리 잡았다. 그러나 RT qPCR 분석을 위해서는 정확한 바이러스 RNA 추출 방법이 필수적이다. TRIzol 시약은 생물학적 물질로부터 RNA의 추출에 이용되고 따라서 노로바이러스 RNA 추출에도 널리 사용된다. 이 연구에서는 인체 노로바이러스 유전체 그룹 I (GI) 및 유전자 그룹 II (GII)와 생쥐 노로바 이러스(GV) 중에서 GII로부터의 TRIzol 을 이용한 바이러스 RNA의 추출률이 바이러스 시료 용액의 pH에 의존했다는 내용이 다루어졌다. 실시간 PCR의 Ct값으로 비교 한 RNA 추출 수율은 산성 영역보다 알칼리성 pH에서 높았다. 이 연구 결과로 부터 TRIzol을 이용하여 GII RNA 를 추출하여 노로바이러스를 정량적으로 분석할 때 pH조 건이 대단히 중요하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

        본 연구는 다국적기업 본사-해외자회사 간 권력 관계가 자원의존 관계의 영향을 받는다는 점에 주목하고 자원 의존이론 관점에서 본사와 해외자회사 간의 자원의존성(해외자회사 상대적 규모, 본사-해외자회사 간 자원이전) 이 자회사 CEO 현지화에 미치는 영향을 실증분석하였다. 2000년부터 2015년까지 89개 미국 S&P 500 기업의 105개 단독소유 한국 자회사를 대상으로 현지인 CEO 임명 여부를 종속변수로 하여 실증분석을 수행한 결과, 해외자회사의 상대적 규모가 클수록 현지인을 자회사 CEO로 임명하는 것으로 나타났다. 본사와 해외자회사 간의 자원이전 역시 자회사 CEO 임명에 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 해외자회사가 다국적기업 본사에 자원을 제공하는 수준이 높을수록 현지인을 자회사 CEO로 임명하는 반면, 해외자회사가 다국적기업 본사로부터 자원을 조달하는 수준이 높을수록 본사파견 CEO를 임명하는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 해외자회사가 본사로부터 자원을 조달하는 수준보다 해외자회사가 본사에 자원을 제공하는 수준이 높을수록 자회사 CEO 현지화 경향이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 한편 해외자회사 상대적 규모와 본사-자회사 간 자원이전의 상호작용 효과는 자회사 CEO 임명에 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인된다. 해외자회사의 상대적 규모가 자회사 CEO 현지화에 미치는 영향은 자회 사가 본사로부터 자원을 조달하는 수준이 높을수록 약화되는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 해외자회사가 본사로부터 자원을 조달하는 수준 보다 본사에 자원을 제공하는 수준이 높을수록 해외자회사의 상대적 규모가 자회사 CEO 현지화에 미치는 영향은 강화되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 본사와 해외자회사 간 자원이전의 방향에 따라 자회사 CEO 현지화에 미치는 영향이 다르다는 것을 규명하였다는 점에서 이론적 시사점을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

        For the competitive business environment under purchase dependence, this paper proposes a new approximate calculation of order fill rate which is a probability of satisfying a customer order immediately using the existing inventory. Purchase dependence is different to demand dependence. Purchase dependence treats the purchase behavior of customers, while demand dependence considers demand correlation between items, between regions, or over time. Purchase dependence can be observed in such areas as marketing, manufacturing systems, and distribution systems. Traditional computational methods have a difficulty of the curse of dimensionality for the large cases, when deriving the stationary joint distribution which is utilized to calculate the order fill rate. In order to escape the curse of dimensionality and protect the solution from diverging for the large cases, we develop a greedy iterative search algorithm based on the Gauss-Seidel method. We show that the greedy iterative search algorithm is a dependable algorithm to derive the stationary joint distribution of on-hand inventories in the retailer system by conducting a comparison analysis of a greedy iterative search algorithm with the simulation. In addition, we present some managerial insights such as : (1) The upper bound of order fill rate can be calculated by the one-item pure system, while the lower bound can be provided by the pure system that consists of all items; (2) As the degree of purchase dependence declines while other conditions remain same, it is observed that the difference between the lower and upper bounds reduces, the order fill rate increases, and the order fill rate gets closer to the upper bound.

        Temperature can affect the ability of insects to tolerate prolonged period of food deprivation through altering the amountof energy storage, the speed of energy expenditure, or the threshold energy storage for survival. In this study, we examinedthe mechanistic basis of the temperature-dependence of starvation resistance in Drosophila melanogaster. Starvation resistancedecreased as the temperature experienced during starvation rose from 18 to 28 ̊C. This warming-mediated decrease instarvation resistance was due to accelerated energy expenditure. However, the threshold energy storage for survival wasnot affected by starvation temperature. Exposure to warm temperatures during feeding led D. melanogaster to accumulatemore energy reserves and thus to become more starvation resistant. This study highlights the important role played bytemperature in shaping the phenotypic responses of insects to starvation.

        We present the environmental dependence of the luminosity-size relation of galaxies in the local universe (z < 0.01) along with their dependence on galaxy morphology represented by five broad types (E, dEs, S0, Sp, and Irr). The environmental parameters we consider are the local background density and the group/cluster membership together with the clustercenteric distance for the Virgo cluster galaxies. We derive the regression coefficient (β ), i.e., the slope of the line representing the least-squares fitting to the data and the Pearson correlation coefficient (c.c.) representing the goodness of the least-squares fit along with the confidence interval from bootstrap resampling. We find no significant dependence of the luminosity-size relation on galaxy morphology. However, there is a weak dependence of the luminositysize relations on the environment of galaxies, in the sense that galaxies in the low density environment have shallower slopes than galaxies in the high density regions except for elliptical galaxies that show an opposite trend.

        Rockfish was a commercially important fish specie in marine ranching areas in Korea. To estimate density and biomass of rockfish using acoustic method, target strength (TS) information is required on the species. This study measured TS dependence on tilt angle and size on 14 live rockfish individuals at 38, 70, and, 120 kHz by ex-situ measurement (tethered method) and acoustic scattering model (Krichhoff ray mode, KRM). The swimbladdered angle ranged from 18 to 30˚ (mean ± s.d. = 26 ± 4˚ ). The mean TS for all individuals was highest -35.9 dB of tilt angle -17˚ at 38 kHz, -35.4 dB of tilt angle -25˚ at 70 kHz, and -34.9 dB of tilt angle -22˚ at 120 kHz. The ex-situ TS-total length (TL, cm) relationships were TS38kHz = 20log10(TL) - 67.1, TS70kHz = 20log10(TL) - 68.6, and TS120kHz = 20log10(TL) - 69.9, respectively. The model TS-total length (TL, cm) relationships were TS38kHz = 20log10(TL) - 66.4, TS70kHz = 20log10(TL) - 67.0, TS120kHz = 20log10(TL) - 67.0. The two measurements between the ex-situ TS and KRM model for TS-tilt angle and fish size were found to be significantly correlated.

        We demonstrate the luminosity dependence of the covering factor (CF) of active galactic nuclei (AGNs), based on AKARI mid-infrared all-sky survey catalog. Combining the AKARI with Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) spectroscopic data, we selected 243 galaxies at 9 m and 255 galaxies at 18 m. We then identi ed 64 AGNs at 9 μm and 105 AGNs at 18 μm by their optical emission lines. Following that, we estimated the CF as the fraction of type 2 AGN in all AGNs. We found that the CF decreased with increasing 18 μm luminosity, regardless of the choice of type 2 AGN classification criteria.
