The emissions characteristics of particulate matters(PM) according to the types of wastes from industrial waste incinerator of 800 kg/hr treatment capacity were investigated. For this study, the incinerate waste are as follows; waste resin, waste wood, waste urethane, waste gunny, and waste paper. The particulate samples were collected to be emitted in stack and air pollution control(both cyclone and bag filter). In stack, the concentrations of PM were in the range of 2.61 to 26.51 ㎎/S㎥ and the major chemical species were C, Si, Cl, K, Na, Ca in all the wastes. In cyclone fly ash, the mean content of heavy metal were in the order of Fe > Zn > Pb > Cu > Mn > Cr > Ni > Cd > As > Hg and the heavy metal content of waste resin were Zn 34,197.5 mg/kg, Fe 27,587.6 mg/kg, Pb 6,055.8 mg/kg, respectively. In bag filter fly ash, the mean content of heavy metal were in the order of Zn > Pb > Fe > Cu > Mn > Cd > Cr > Ni > As > Hg and the heavy metal content of waste wood were Pb 36,405.2 mg/kg, Fe 15,762.9 mg/kg, Cu 9,989.5 mg/kg, Cd 2,230.1 mg/kg, respectively. Comparing the heavy metal content of both cyclone and bag filter, in cyclone, the Cr, Fe, Ni content were higher than in bag filter and the Cd, Cu, Hg content were lower than in bag filter.

In order to investigate the distribution of suspended particulate matter of the surface water in the South Sea of Korea in early winter, the cruise results during 2 to 8 December 2004 were analyzed in relation to the hydrography. The front was formed along the line connecting between Tsushima and Cheju Islands, which divided the water into two water masses; the coastal water with low temperature and low salinity, and the Tsushima Warm Current Water with high temperature and high salinity. In the coastal water the suspended particulte matter was 5.0-6.5 mg/l, while in the oceanic water suspended particulate matter was 4.5-5.0 mg/l. The coastal water showed higher mixing effects, compared to the oceanic area where vertical stratification was clearly formed. These indicate that the distribution of suspended particulate matter was affected by the stratification or mixing of the water column. Also it is suggested that the mixing effects of sea surface cooling and wind play an important role on the distribution of suspended particulate matter in the South Sea of Korea in winter time.

We have studied the catalytic combustion of soot particulates over perovskite-type oxides prepared by malic acid method. The catalysts were modified to enhance the activity by substitution of metal into A or B site of perovskite oxide. In addition, the reaction conditions such as temperature and O2 concentration were investigated. The partial substitution of alkali metals into A site in the LaMnO3 catalyst, enhanced the catalytic activity in the combustion of carbon particulate and the activity was shown in the order: Cs>K>Na. For the La1-xCsxMnO3 catalysts, the catalytic activity showed the maximum value with x=0.3 but no more increase on the catalytic activity was shown with x>0.3. For the La0.8Cs0.2MnO3 catalyst, the substitution of Fe or Ni increased the ignition temperature. The ignition temperature decreased with an increase of O2 concentration, however, no more increase in the catalytic activity was shown with O2 concentration>0.2. The introduction of NO into reactants showed no effect on the catalytic activity.

This study was performed to research the characteristics of suspended particulate for Yellow Sand of January, 1999 in Busan. Yellow Sand frequency during 13 years(1988~2000) in Busan showed maximum in April(57%), next to March(21%), May(16%). According to result of 850hPa weather map and backward isentropic trajectory, this event originated from the Gobi Desert and the Loess Plateau of China. And three mode was found in time series of TSP and PM10 concentration, primary peak showed the maximum hourly concentration at all station. Gamjeondong as industrial site showed the highest TSP concentration and also had the longest high concentration(≥700㎍/m3). In PM10, concentration of primary peak showed maximum value at Yeonsandong, maximum concentration of secondary and third peak was Deokcheondong. Lasted time from primary peak to secondary peak was about 30 hours, between secondary peak and third peak was 18 hours in Busan, The traveling time between occurrence of Yellow Sand the finding of it was 8~9 hours in Busan and 4~5 hours in central area.

Photosynthetic pigments and their degradation products in suspended and sinking particles collected from the Gulf of Mexico waters 1987∼88, were measured using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The short term variations in flux rates of chlorophylls and carotenoids as well as their degradation products were compared at the mesoscale cyclonic and anticyclonic circulation features (cold core ring and warm core ring). Chlorophyll a was the predominant porphyrin of suspended particulate matter at both CCR and WCR. Among carotenoid pigments, 19`-hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin, which is a biomarker of prymnesiophytes, was dominant pigment at both rings. Phaeophorbide a, which is produced through the grazing processes of grazers, was the predominant degraded pigment in sinking particles at the study area. Total pigment flux in CCR was an order of magnitude higher than that in WCR. Less than 1% of the standing stock of the pigments measured sank out of the upper 200 m of the WCR on any given day. Thus, suspended particulate matter in Gulf of Mexico was not recycled rapidly.

It is necessary to examine the source contributions and the relationship between a receptor and sources for the resonable controlling of air pollution level of suspended particulate matters. Therefore, in this study, profiles of sources contributing to the concentration of suspended particulate matters, were developed and CMB model was applied to obtain information of source contributions and feasibility of CMB model application. According to the propose of this study, twenty-seven chemical species such as the elements, anions, and total carbon of thirty-six PM_10 and TSP data sets sampled at the Poˇmch`oˇn receptor site in Pusan for a 24-hr period from May to Aug. 1992, were analyzed and three (transportation, soil, marine) different source profiles were developed through the field measurement. Applying CMB model to transportation, soil, marine, the results of source contribution by CMB model showed that the case with TSP was more suitable for CMB model than that with PM_10. And the average contribution of transportation source to TSP and PM_10 concentration at Poˇmch`oˇn receptor was calculated as 90.66 ㎍/㎥(64%) and 23.27 (㎍/㎥(39%), respectively, which showed that the contribution by transportation was dominant. The validation of CMB model was performed by means of the results of contributions from marine source for the wind direction sectors.
