The genetic variabilities of second chromosomes concealed Sasang natural and experimental populations of Drosophila melanogaster have been analyzed. The experimental population was composed of D.melanogaster which had the lethal-free second chromosome collected from Sasang natural population in 1982. The results were as follow; The mean frequencies of deleterious genes were estimated to be 33.33% in Sasang natural population and 31.72% in experimental population. The allelism rates in lethal genes isolated from the natural and experimental populations were calculated to be about 0.95% and 12.28%, respectively. The allelism rates between lethal genes isolated from the natural population and those of the experimental population were calculated to be about 0.01%. The mean values of elimination by frequencies of deleterious genes and allelism rates were 0.0011 in the natural population and 0.0124 in the experimental population. The frequencies of phenotypic sterility of males in the natural and experimental populations were estimated to be 1.49% and 1.36%, respectively. The frequencies of genotypic sterility of females and males were estimated to be 0.90% and 1.80% in the natural population, and that of males was 2.38% in the experimental population.
The field observation was carried out to investigate the characteristics of surface inversion layer at Kimhae using the feild observed data and upper layer meteorological data during 4-5 February 1993. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: The maximum height of surface inversion layer observed at Kimhae is 194m and the height of upper level inversion layer ranges from 200m to 300m. The surface weather elements was influenced the formation of surface inversion layer. According to the pasquill stability and time variation of temperature with height, both the surface heating from insolation and the disturbance of upper level of inversion layer was influenced the disappearance of inversion layer. And the stability of surface temperature inversion layer generally belongs to the class of F, that of upper level temperature inversion layer commonly to the class of E.
Based on the Results of Marine Meteorological and Oceanographical Observations (1966∼1987), oceanographic conditions of the Japan Sea in winter was studied in relation to the Japan Sea Proper Water (JSPW). The mean and dispersion of the deep water above 1000m depth are O.26±0.2℃ in temperature and 5.1±0.25 ㎖/ℓ in oxygen. The mean and dispersion of the bottom water below 1000m depth are 0.07±0.04℃ in temperature and 5.1±0.15㎖/ℓ in oxygen. The distributions of the temperature and dissolved oxygen in the deep water above 1000m depth are ranged wider than those of the bottom water below 1000m depth in T-S and T-O_2 diagrams. The bottom water are showed more homogeneous and smaller variations than the deep water in the characteristics of water mass. The deep water above 1000m depth is active in contact with the atmosphere. The JSPW similar to the above characteristics is showed in the open ocean of the north of 40°30` N, west of 138°E. Therefore, the deep water is formed probably by the open-ocean convection.
The groundwater levels at 11 sites and the vertical variations of the water quality at 1 site were measured to study the characteristic of the groundwater level fluctuation of Cheju Island. The results of the measurements for the groundwater levels were as follows; In the eastern part, inculding Kimnyong, Jongdal and Sungsan, a sinusoidal fluctuation of groundwater levels occured in response to oceanic tides. The tidal effect on the groundwater level was reduced depending upon the distance from seashore. But time lag showed that the trend is reversed. However, in the Samyang, Kosan and Shinhyo areas show that the groundwater level was directly influenced by the amount of precipitation. Especially, Shinhyo area which southern part in Cheju was affected the most and show upper parabasal groundwater level. In Susan-I which eastern part in Cheju, well revealed that water quality changed with the period of a tide. Salinity at the 11m, bellow the natural groundwater level, was approched to the brackish groundwater(1000ppm).
The purpose of this study is to develop a linear reservoir model with Kalman filter using Kalman filter theory which removes a physical uncertainty of rainfall-runoff process. A linear reservoir model, which is the basic model of Kalman filter, is used to calculate runoff from rainfall in river basin. A linear reservoir model with Kalman filter is composed of a state-space model using a system model and a observation model. The state-vector of system model in linear reservoir model with Kalman filter takes the ordinate of IUH from linear reservoir model. The average value of the ordinate of IUH for a linear reservoir model with Kalman filter is used as the initial value of state-vector. A linear reservoir model with Kalman filter shows better results than those by linear reserevoir model, and decreases a physical uncertainty of rainfall-runoff process in river basin.
Air pollution characteristics and the influence of sea breeze on air pollution concentration were studied using the data measured at 7 air quality continuous monitoring stations in Pusan, 1993. Maximum air pollution concentration in Pusan was Gamjeondong for SO_2, Sinpyeongdong for TSP, Daeyeondong for O_3, Kwangbokdong for NO_2, Beomcheondong for CO and all substances were under annual ambient air quality standards. Increased rate of concentration for sea breeze was 24.4% for SO_2, 31.5% for TSP, 80% for O_3, 26.7% for NO_2, 15.7% for CO. Frequencies distribution of SO_2, TSP, O_3, NO_2 and CO concentration for sea breeze moved toward high concentration class.
A predictive modal is demonstrated for gas removal rates from the atmosphere by dry deposition. Typical deposition velocities are complex functions of surface types, atmospheric stabilities, friction velocities, air pollutants, and so on. In this paper we simulated the calculation of dry deposition velocities near the earth surfaces, simultaneously we estimated real dry deposition velocities using the previous simulation. The measurement taken over a deciduous forest by Padro et al.(1988) were used to verify this model. In the comparison of the value of deposition velocity between numerical computation and observation, there are partially overestimations and underestimations between them, but we can speak that they are in a good accordance.
Volatile organic compounds in the ambient air were gathered irregularly by normal temperature concentrating method at Odea-ri and Oceon-ri Ulsan-gun in the neighbourhood of Ulsan Petrochemical Industrial Complex and analyzed with gas chromatograph. Several hydrocarbons in common atmospheric air or emitted fugitively from the chemical plants were identified and quantified by comparison with the retention times of standard compounds. The results from several field surveys in 1992 show that the concentrations of styrene at residential area of Odea-ri and Ocheon--ri were less than 0.4 ppm, but once a while greater within the chemical plants area. When it smelled unpleasantly in these area, the concentration of hydrocarbons were also high. It was concluded that the close and long-term investigation about other odorous components but hydrocarbons will be necessary to ascertain the cause of unpleasant odor of these area.
This paper presents the disributions and variations of CO,CO_2, number of people and temperature in underground shopping center and subway of Seomyeon and Jagalchi in Pusan, Korea for two times during October and November in 1993, respectively. NDIR analyzer is used for the analysis of CO and CO_2. The temperature is obtained from a mercury therometer. The results of observation and analysis show that the variation of CO_2 is strongly related to number of people and temperature. The correlation coefficients between temperature, CO_2 and number of people are higher than 0.85 at both of places. The pollution of CO_2 of Seomyeon is higher than that of Jagachi in underground shopping center. However, CO is not correlated with the temperature and the number of people. From the results, we found that the indoor air quality monitoring system is needed for the prevention of the underground air pollution.
It is necessary to examine the source contributions and the relationship between a receptor and sources for the resonable controlling of air pollution level of suspended particulate matters. Therefore, in this study, profiles of sources contributing to the concentration of suspended particulate matters, were developed and CMB model was applied to obtain information of source contributions and feasibility of CMB model application. According to the propose of this study, twenty-seven chemical species such as the elements, anions, and total carbon of thirty-six PM_10 and TSP data sets sampled at the Poˇmch`oˇn receptor site in Pusan for a 24-hr period from May to Aug. 1992, were analyzed and three (transportation, soil, marine) different source profiles were developed through the field measurement. Applying CMB model to transportation, soil, marine, the results of source contribution by CMB model showed that the case with TSP was more suitable for CMB model than that with PM_10. And the average contribution of transportation source to TSP and PM_10 concentration at Poˇmch`oˇn receptor was calculated as 90.66 ㎍/㎥(64%) and 23.27 (㎍/㎥(39%), respectively, which showed that the contribution by transportation was dominant. The validation of CMB model was performed by means of the results of contributions from marine source for the wind direction sectors.
Catalytic slurry reactors, in which a solid maintained in the form of fine particles suspended in a liquid, are frequently used in chemical and biochemical and industries. In these processes the particle loading is normally low so that the effects of particles on the liquid-film mass transfer coefficent and the gas-liquid interface area are assumed to be negligible. But it is known from the works, amongst others, that the finely powdered activated carbon can increase the gas-liquid mass transfer significantly in surface-aerated reactors. The stirred cell (13.2cm inside diameter) contained four baffles and at the stirring speeds range of 80∼300rpm, the gas-liquid interfacial area could be considered as that of the cross section of the vessel (that is, 130.1㎝2). When the stirrer speeds were increased, the effective interfacial area was slightly higher than the geometric area and was obtained experimentally from the Danckwerts`plots.
This study was performed to evaluate the contents of heavy metals in water, sediment and soil of the 7 different sampling points along the West Nakdong river. The results were as follows: the concentrations of Zn, P, Pb, Cd, Mn, Cu and As in the sediment were 197.48, 551.85, 67.01, 2.54, 491.39, 42.95 and 10.52ppm,respectively. The concentrations of Zn, F, Pb, Cd, Mn, Cu and As in the soil was 83.32, 482.89, 17.15, 1.02, 226.02, 26.15 and 7.29ppm, respectively, The concentration ratios of heavy metals in the water to the sediment were 593 - 12700 (Cd >> Cu > Zn > Mn > As > Pb) and that of the water to the soil were 152 - 5100 (Cu > Cd > Zn > Mn > As >Pb). The correlation coefficients of Cu and Pb were high among the water, sediment and soil. Because the accumulation amounts of heavy metal in the sediment were high, the concentration of heavy metals in the sediment was higher than in soil. The correlation coefficient of heavy metals among water, sediment and soil was high (0.79 - 0.95).
Leachate from municipal landfill site is known to be hard to treat because it commonly contains various toxic material and heavy metals. In addition, portions of biodegradable organic substances in leachate are decreasing in the course of wastes stabilization, which is one of the critical reason for inefficient biological treatment at the end stage of landfill site operation. So this study was conducted to examine the feasibility of municipal landfill leachate pretreatment using electrolysis. The optimum electrode combination was made. The optimum electrode combination was found to be lead and graphite.
Batch experiments were performed to evaluate the effect of sludge acclimation and contact load on the behavior of phosphorus and organic substrates under anaerobic conditions. Four different sludges were acclimated in the sequencing batch reactors operated by intermittent aeration. All the experiments performed in a bench scale have shown the following results: 1. The unreleaseable phosphorus contents for four different sludges are the range of 16 ㎎ P/g SS to 24 ㎎ P/g SS, depending on the sludge acclimation conditions. 2. All the specific substrate uptake rates(SSUR) are expressed in the first order equation for releaseable phosphorus contents. The reaction rate coefficient, k, has the values of 4.0, 8.9, and 13.8 mg COD/㎎ P/hr, depending on the contact load and sludge species. 3. As reaction proceeds, the ratios of ΔP to - ΔCOD at high contact load are almost constant. in the range of 0.10 to 0.14, but at low contact load, they increase from 0.08 to 0.27.
In aqueous acid solution [Cr(CN)_6]^3- aquates via a series of stepwise stereospecific reactions to give [Cr(H_2O)_6]^3+ as the final product.Some of the intermediate cyanoaquo complexes in the sequence have been isolated.These complexes aquate by both acid independent and acid denpendent pathways,the latter involving protonation of the cyano ligands followed by aquation of the singly protonated species. The kinetic data for the aquation of [CrCN(H_2O)_5]^2+ are consistent with the transition state structure, [(H_2O)_4Cr(CN)-OH-Cr(H_2O)_5]^3+.Addition of Cr^2+ to solutions of cyanocobalt(III) complexes produces the metastable intermediate[CrNC(H_2O]^2)+.This isomerizes to in a Cr^2+ -catalyzed reaction which occurs by a ligand-bridged electron-change mechnism. From acid catalysis on these aquation reactions, it product HCN. Especially, HSO_3 ions do the role of catalyst in the formation of HCN from CrCN^3+.
The environmental regulation violation of the Korean firms is causing severe environmental pollution lately. Nevertheless, there are few studies on the firm`s pattern of environmental regulation violation. In this paper, for the pattern of environmental regulation violation of the Korean firms, we give a type of statistical data analysis using the correspondence analysis. Therefore, with more effective control and inspection based on this, we have an effective and enforceable system decreasing the violative firms.
