The focus of this study was to identify and describe environmental preconceptions held by pre-service elementary teachers about three issues : greenhouse effect, ozone layer depletion and acid rain. Two hundred and twenty nine pre-service elementary teachers participated in this study. A 36 question survey was created by one of the authors. The questions focused on the cause, effects, and interactions of three environmental issues : greenhouse effect, ozone layer depletion and acid rain. Pre-service elementary teachers answered the questions on a Likert scale. An analysis of the survey data indicated that the majority of pre-service elementary teachers possess an array of incorrect conceptions about the causes and effects of the greenhouse effect, ozone layer depletion, and acid rain. and also many pre-service elementary teachers thought that there were causal relationships among the increase in greenhouse effect, the destruction of ozone layer, and the increase of acid rain.
The Local Agenda21 is an action program of local dimension to realize of sustainable development. The citizen participation is prime issues and very important for successful practice of the Local Agenda21. The purpose of this research is to analyze the citizen participation problem and to suggest the improvement plan at the advanced course of the Local Agenda21. The research results are as follows; 1. The recognize of citizen about the Local Agenda21 is very low. Namely, the citizen of about 80% answered not to know about the Local Agenda21. 2. However, citizens showed the participation opinion to be very active by simple explanation about the Local Agenda21. 3. Also, citizens showed the result to be very affirmative in the environment problem consciousness investigation. Namely, citizens were recognizing the environment problem as the problem of the society synergic.
The purpose of this research explain the meaning of the environmental design principles and cultural landscape pattern(dualistic space organization) of the Hahoe(河回:winding river village)·the Yangdong(良洞) traditional village.
Village’s space organizations based on Shamanism, Yin-yang and Five elements principle, Feng-shui idea, social system and Confucian ideas. And it were accomplish the cultural landscape pattern(village:form+object= pattern) through the frame of settlement space.
As a central persons of villages(the Hahoe·the Yangdong) construction, Suhae(西厓) experienced through ChunghyodangWonjichongsaOgyonchongsaPyongsansowon channel(忠孝堂遠志精舍玉淵精舍屛山書院) and Kyomam(謙庵) experienced through YangjindangBinyeonchongsaKyomamchongsaHwachonsodang(養眞堂賓淵精舍謙庵精舍花川書堂) channel. Also Woojae(愚齋) experienced through SuhbackdangKhankachungDongkangsowon(書百堂觀稼亭東江書院) and Hoejae(晦齋) experienced through MoochumdangHyangdanOaksansowon(無添堂香壇玉山書院). It is space organization of themselves interact contrast and sequence principles with competition in good faith.
And ecological art-space, that is, environmental space organizations of traditional village has been reflected harmony between nature and artificiality, spatial rhythm and sequence, spatial hierarchy between upper classes and humble class, permeability space, asymmetrical balance, aesthetic space perception.
The humble classes hold a ceremony Hahoe's Pyolsingut-Talnori(maskdance drama), Dangjae(堂祭:religious service) at the Dang(堂:shamanism spot) and Yangdong's Sohraesulnori, Hohminori. And the upper class hold a ceremony Hahoe's Julbulnori and Yangdong's Chungjanori connected with culture of confucianism. Specially, the cultural structure of the village is evidence of a contrast between the upper class and the humble classes, time, method and location of ceremony(performance).
It has been researched the relationship between deposition velocity and factors which could affect the deposition phenomena and deposition velocity also has been estimated for several land-use types. The typical deposition velocities are complex functions of surface types, atmospheric stabilities, friction velocities, air pollutants and so on. The canopy resistance is major contribution to the model's total resistance for O3. Canopy wetness is also an important factor to calculate deposition velocity. We considered the canopy wetness as canopy water content(CWC) in our Model. But, it is not easy to observe CWC over each land-use types. In this study, we use CWC observed by EMEFS(CANADA Environment Service, 1988) to examine the influence of CWC in estimation of O3 dry deposition velocity(Vd) in summertime. The value of O3 Vd range 0.2~0.7 cms-1 on dry surface and 0.01~0.35 cms-1 on wet surface in daytime.
The seasonal variation and frequency of rainfalls of Korea peninsula in Changma period show strong local weather phenomenon because of it's topographical and geographical factors in Northeast side of Asia. Based on weather entropy(statistical parameter)-the amount of average weather information-and information ratio, we can define each area's weather representativeness, which can show us more constant form included topographical and geographical factors and seasonal variation. The data used for this study are the daily precipitation and cloudiness during the recent ten years(1990-1999) at the 73 stations in Korea. To synthesize weather Entropy, information ratio of decaying tendency and half-decay distance, Seoul's weather representativeness has the smallest in Summer Changma period. And Puyo has the largest value in September.
This study was performed to research ozone concentration related to airmass thunderstorm using 12 years meteorological data(1990~2001) at Busan. The occurrence frequency of thunderstorm during 12 years was 156 days(annual mean 13days). The airmass thunderstorm frequency was 14 days, most of those occurrence at summertime(59%). In case August 4, 1996, increase of ozone concentration was simultaneous with the decrease of temperature and increase of relative humidity. In case July 23, 1997, ozone concentration of western site at Busan increased, while its of eastern site decreased as airmass thunderstorm occurred(about 1500LST). It is supposed that these ozone increases are the effect of ozone rich air that is brought down by cumulus downdrafts from height levels where the ozone mixing ratio is larger. Thunderstorms can cause downward transport of ozone from the reservoir layer in the upper troposphere into planetary boundary layer(PBL). This complex interaction of source and sink processes can result in large variability for vertical and horizontal ozone distributions. Thus a variety of meteorological processes can act to enhance vertical mixing between the earth's surface and the atmospheric in the manner described for thunderstorm.
An evaluation of the application of SBR and biofilm on small sewerage system was conducted. A newly developed small sewerage system, using SBR, was successfully applied to the nutrient treatment using municipal wastewater. The system was consisted of 6 compartments. Two systems, with SBR (A type) or without SBR (B type), were compared by several parameters (COD, SS, T-N, NH4+-N, NO3--N, NO2--N, alkalinity, pH, DO) in all experimental periods. Also, the time variation of several parameters (DO, pH, NH4+-N, NO3--N, NO2--N) was examined in a SBR applied sewerage system. T-N removal efficiency of B type was higher than that of A type by the effect of nitrification and denitrification even though the COD removal efficiencies were similar. In aeration stage, the pH was decreased from 6.4 to 6.3 within 1 h and increased to 6.65 at the end of aerobic stage, and pH was decreased to 6.2 in non-aeration stage, and these phenomena were explained. The effects of nitrification and denitrification were compared in A type and B type sewerage system, and the typical nitrificaion and denitrification were observed in B type sewerage system.

Therefore, the case-Ⅱ was adopted with water management plan of optimum. It is also known that the maximum irrigation area augmentation effect appears in the case which will use the additional water quantity in field irrigation of the case-Ⅱ which was adopted.
This study was carried out to develop an efficient process for the elimination of phenol pollutant from soils. An microwave-assisted process (MAP) and a conventional Soxhlet extraction method (SEM) were employed to extract phenol from two types of soils. The effects of extraction methods, aged time of the spiked soil samples, extraction solvent and extraction time on the extraction performance were compared. Our results demonstrate that the recoveries from standard soil spiked were at least 10% higher for MAP than those for the conventional Soxhlet. The extraction time by MAP requires significantly shorter time (1 min) than 18 h of the conventional Soxhlet. The recoveries from non-contaminated soil spiked with phenol were also almost identical for above results. The reduction of the extraction times with efficiency higher than that afforded by the conventional Soxhlet technique supports the suitability of the MAP method.

In order to examine the pre-treatment effect of crab shell on Pb2+ removal by crab shell in aqueous solution, acid and alkali pre-treated crab shell were used. Electron microscopy techniques such as TEM (transmission electron microscopy) and SEM (scanning electron microscopy), and EDX (energy dispersive X-ray) and FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) spectrometry techniques were used to investigate the process of Pb2+ removal by acid and alkali pre-treated crab shell. The Pb2+ removal by acid pre-treated crab shell was much lower than that by untreated crab shell because of the decrease of CaCO3 from the crab shell. However, the Pb2+ removal by alkali pre-treated crab shell increased compared to that by untreated crab shell. The results were confirmed by TEM, SEM, EDX and FTIR.
Pesticides were extracted from samples with 70% acetone and methylene chloride in order, and then cleaned up via open-column chromatography apparatus packed with florisil, and finally analyzed simultaneously the organochlorine and pyrethroid pesticides using GC(ECD). An ultra-2 fused silica capillary column was used to separate and identify the products. The resolution between the last isomeric peak of cypermethrin(59.987min) and the first isomeric peak of flucythrinate(60.043min) was not satisfactory. The last isomeric peak of fenvalerate(62.344min) and the first isomeric peak of fluvalinate(62.397min) were overlapped. Recoveries of soybean sample for the most pesticides were 73.3% to 102.4%. Detection limits were between 0.004 and 0.063㎍/㎎ when this method was used.
Two types of polyimide/silica composite films were prepared using sol-gel method through hydrolysis and polycondensation of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) with the polyamic acid (PAA) and end-capped PAA solution. Samples were characterized by the means of differential thermogravimetry, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, universal test, impedance analyzer, chemical resistance test, etc. All of the PAA/silanol solutions heat-treated at 300℃ for 6h were transformed to polyimide/silica composites. It has been demonstrated that the properties of polyimide/silica composites were affected by the amount of silica addition and the bond type existed between polyimide and silica.

The effect stability constants of ligands and metal ions for removal of heavy metals in aqueous solution were described.
How to plan the energy system is one of the keys for constructing the Environment -Friendly City. For this reason, a great number of surveys for utilizing unused energy have conducted by a planner. In regard to unused energy, the heat from incineration plants classify as a unused energy having high-exergy-energy. From this point of view, It is studied about the plant systems providing heat to district heating & cooling(D.H.C) and producing electric power. It is divided four system models as system I (10K [kgf/cm2] vapor as outlet of boiler, supply for 10K vapor and return to 60℃ as supply condition of district heating), system Ⅱ (30 K vapor as outlet of boiler, supply for 5K vapor and return to 60℃ as supply condition of district heating), system Ⅲ (30 K vapor as outlet of boiler, supply for 85℃ hot water and return to 60℃ as supply condition of district heating), system Ⅳ (30 K vapor as outlet of boiler, supply for 47℃ hot water and return to 40℃ as supply condition of district heating).
The results from the upper condition of four system, System Ⅱ got a proper on economical benefits and system Ⅳ calculated as benefiting on energy saving effects, and suggest indifference curve as the total evaluation method of both economical benefits and energy saving.
