        Viral protein 2 (VP2) of porcine parvovirus (PPV) is responsible for inducing neutralizing antibodies in immunized animals. It is the major viral structural protein. In this study, novel subunit vaccines against PPV based on virus-like particles (VLPs) formed from VP2 proteins (PPV 13-7 Korean strain) were expressed in an insect baculovirus cell system and purified using Ni-NTA affinity column chromatography. These VP2 proteins assembled into virus-like particles (VLPs). They showed antigenic properties similar to those of natural PPV. In addition, they showed high hemagglutination (HA) titers (211 for PPV 13-7 Korean strain). This study provides a foundation for the application of the difference immunization of recombinant protein in the diversity of PPV VP2 genes and in vaccination against PPV in the future.

        This study quantitatively investigates foreign learners" acquisition of double particles in Korean. Some of the particles in Korean are jointly used with other particles and some are not, and the sequence of the particles determines the grammaticality of the double particles. Chinese and Japanese learners of Korean participated in the experiment in which they were asked to judge the grammaticality of a combination of a noun and double particles. The participants" judgment of the grammaticality of the double particles and their reaction time for the judgment were analyzed. The results of the study revealed that Japanese learners whose native language has a particle system similar to that of Korean performed better in the grammaticality judgment than Chinese learners whose native language shows no use of double particles. The advanced learners of Korean, regardless of their native languages, showed better judgment on the grammaticality of the use of double particles. This study also found that the type of double particles also affected the learners" judgment and that in the grammaticality judgment of ungrammatical joint of adverbial particles, most of the participants, regardless of their native languages and their Korean proficiency, scored much lower than in the judgment of the other types of double particles. The analyses of the participants" reaction time for the judgment showed congruent results with those of their grammaticality judgement.

        The aim of this paper is to analyze Korean specific particles ‘i/ga’ and ‘eul/leul’ and show how to teach them effectively to foreign learners. In this respect, we first analysed some typical ‘i/ga’ or ‘eul/leul’ constructions: they seem very similar in appearance but their syntactic structures are quite different. We showed that in order to explain effectively ‘i/ga’ and ‘eul/leul’ constructions, the notion of ‘topic’ should be introduced and found that there exist some particular semantic restrictions between two successive noun phrases participating in ‘i/ga’ and ‘eul/leul’ constructions. Secondly, we tried to show how to construct the educational substance and method of these specific particles ‘i/ga’ and ‘eul/leul’. We proposed to introduce types of ‘i/ga’ and ‘eul/leul’ constructions, typical predicates used with these constructions, semantic restrictions of two successive noun phrases participating in these constructions, equivalent constructions corresponding to these constructions and their concrete examples in constructing the educational substance and method of the specific particles ‘i/ga’ and ‘eul/leul’.

        When we closely look into Korean particle usage of Korean learners, we can find many misuses in Japanese language learners even if Japanese language has similar word order and particles structure as well as English Korean language learners whose language is different to Korean in language order and no particles structure. The purpose of this study is to find out the actual condition, how the Korean particles education for Korean language learner is being processed to make clear how various type of misuses in particles usage of Korean language learner are resulted from the Korean language education locale, the correlation between manifold particles misuse and korean language learning contents in language learning locale. To bring these actual Korean particles education condition, firstly we are going to examine the frequent Korean particles misuse of Korean language learners, and then compare the Korean education locale for particles. These comparison will be helpful to suggest the efficient method of Korean particles education to prevent misuse in Korean particles of learners and make good material for the meaningful learner centered education for Korean particles.

        This study examines the acquisition order and pattern of Korean particles in the interlanguage of migrant workers who were learning Korean as L2 in naturalistic settings with little exposure to formal instruction. Data collected from 48 Chinese and Indonesian workers through semi-structured interviews were analyzed, and the observed pattern was compared with that of instructed L2 learners reported in Hwang (2002). The results are the following: 1) A strong affinity was shown between the rank order of the particles in the workers' data and the frequency of particles in a native corpus presented in Se and Gu (2005), attesting the crucial role input plays in L2 acquisition. 2) The acquisition pattern of the workers was both similar and different from that of the instructed learners, the difference resulting from 'transfer of training'. 3) L1 influence was evidenced in the fact that the Japanese L1 learners passed through the developmental sequence faster than the other L2 groups.

        The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of crude ginseng total saponins (CGS) against airway inflammation (AI) and airway hyperresponsiveness (AH) induced by diesel exhaust particles (DEP) in mice. AI and AH were induced by the intratracheal instillation with 0.1 mg/ml of DEP suspension once a week for 10 weeks combined with ovalbumin (OVA) sensitization. Mice were also treated orally with 75 mg/ml of CGS, 5 days a week for 10 weeks. Oral CGS treatment decreased in the level of serum immunoglobulin (IgE) and histamine increased by DEP and OVA, and declined respiratory resistance. It also dropped an enhanced infiltration of eosinophils in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of mice, and an increased T helper type 2 cell derived cytokine levels such as of interleukin (IL)-4, IL-13 and IL-5 in the BALF. However, it did not influence T helper type 1 cytokine such as interferon-gamma in the BALF. These results indicate that CGS may alleviate allergen-related AI and AH in mice and may play an important role in the modulation of asthmatic inflammation.
