Port operational efficiency is considered as one of the most important competitive factors and plays a critical role in the port development all over the world, especially container ports. Haiphong Port, which is in the northern of Vietnam, is planned to become one of the national and regional ports. To do this objective, it is important to analyse the operational efficiency of its container terminals. The paper aims to comparatively analyse the operational efficiency of 16 container terminals in Haiphong Port from 2016 to 2022 by basic and Malmquist DEA models. With 112 observations collected and calculated in R software, DEA models have five inputs (container yard area, number of quay crane, berth draft, berth length, labour force) and one output (annual cargo throughput). Consequently, Hai An, Tan Vu, and Vip Greenport are more efficient terminals over the 7-year period, whereas Transvina and MIPEC have lower efficiency. Paper contributions are the literature review about port operational efficiency and references to propose resolutions in next author’s research as well as masterplans to develop Vietnam seaport’s system. Besides, the limitations are discussed as the number of observations and environmental factors in ports.
This study is to estimate the recent changes in total factor productivity of 15 Korean adjacent water fisheries based on Malmquist productivity indices. The study adopted both input and output oriented productivity measures utilizing a hyperbola distance function. In addition to this point, the study also calculated the 95% confidence interval for the various components of the productivities in order to access the statistical significance of estimates using 2000 times of re-sampling process through the smoothed bootstraping. The results of the study showed us that there was 18% reduction in the overall total factor productivity during the study period from 2007 to 2011, which turned out to be 5% of annual decrease in productivity. The study found that the main reason of this decrease in total productivity is about 22% downward shift of a fisheries production function due to recent conditions of a devastated fishing ground. When we evaluated the statistical significance of changes in technical efficiency combining both pure technical and scale efficiency based on the 95% confidence intervals, we could not find any evidence of changes in those components of total factor productivity. When we accessed the productivity of the each of 15 adjacent water fisheries methods, only the large danish seine fisheries showed us about 7% increase in productivity. Even though the large trawling and the large tow-boat trawling revealed no changes in productivity, all of the other 12 fisheries suffered the decreases in productivities.
농업 R&D 투자의 연구생산성 변화에 대한 기여도를 분석 하기 위해 비모수적 방법인 자료포락분석법을 이용하고 기술 효율성 변화와 기술수준 변화를 계측해 생산성 변화요인을 확 인하는 맘퀴스트 생산성지수 분석방법을 적용하였다. 분석에 이용된 자료는 2007년부터 2011년까지 5개년간 국립원예특작 과학원에서 수행한 연구과제의 연구비와 그 연구의 결과로 생 성된 논문 (SCI, 비SCI), 산업재산권 출원, 영농활용, 정책제안, 품종육성 등 6개의 성과물을 대상으로 하였다. 투입요소는 국 립원예특작과학원에서 수행한 연구비 총액이고, 산출요소는 6 개의 성과물을 기준으로 하여 분석하였다. 불변규모(CRS)를 가정한 후에 자료포락분석법을 이용해 거 리함수를 계산한 결과 영농활용이 1.000으로 가장 효율적인 성과로 분석되었고, 비SCI논문이 0.671, SCI논문이 0.343, 품 종육성이 0.301, 정책제안이 0.288, 산업재산권이 0.251 순으 로 분석되었다. 이러한 결과로 판단해 볼 때 연구성과 효율성 을 향상시키기 위해서는 연구과제 특성에 따른 목표설정 및 재원배분, 인력, 시설, 장비 등의 추가적인 투자가 필요하다. 거리함수를 이용해 맘퀴스트 생산성지수를 도출한 결과 2007년부터 2011년까지 5개년간 원예특용작물분야 농업 R&D 투자로 인한 연구성과의 생산성은 연평균 17.5%가 향상되었 다. SCI논문이 39.4%로 가장 높은 생산성 증가율을 나타냈으 며, 산업재산권 출원이 27.8%, 정책제안이 17.4%, 영농활용이 16.8%, 품종육성이 6.3%, 비SCI논문이 1.1%의 성장률을 나타 냈다. 표본기간 동안의 기술효율성의 연평균 변화율은 0.6%로 나타났고, 기술수준의 변화는 16.8% 향상한 결과를 보여주고 있다. 또한 기술효율성 변화의 두 요소인 순수효율성과 규모 효율성 변화는 불변규모를 가정한 관계로 규모효율성의 변화 가 없어 기술효율성의 변화는 순수효율성 변화와 동일한 값을 보여주고 있다. 결과적으로 5개년간 국립원예특작과학원에 투자한 농업 R&D는 17.5%의 생산성 향상을 가져왔고, 연평균 성장률에 대한 기여가 0.6%인 기술효율성 변화보다는 16.8%인 기술수 준의 변화가 더 큰 기여를 하였다. 이는 원예특용작물분야 농 업 R&D 투자로 인한 성과의 생산성 향상에 기술효율성의 개 선보다는 기술진보가 훨씬 큰 기여를 하였다는 것을 보여주는 것으로서 개별 연구성과의 효율성 개선보다는 연구능력 향상, 우수인력 유치, 시설 확대 등 기술혁신을 일으킬 수 있는 요 소에 대한 투자가 우선되어야 하며, 생산성 향상을 유도하는 투자가 지속적으로 이루어져야 함을 의미한다. 다만 본 연구에서는 R&D 투자 시점부터 연구성과가 발생하기까지의 시차와 개별 연구성과에 대한 투자규모가 다른 점을 고려하지 않았으며 향후 추가적인 연구가 필요함을 밝 혀둔다.
정보화 사회의 도래에 따른 정보통신기술의 발전과 활용이 국가 경제구조 및 성장에 급격한 영향을 미치고 있는 추세에 맞춰 본 연구는 자료포락분석과 맘퀴스트지수를 활용하여 국가별 정보통신기술의 활용성과를 상대적 효율성 및 생산성의 관점에서 접근하고자 하였다. 투입요소로 ICT환경과 ICT이용준비도 그리고 산출물로 ICT활용도를 이용하여 총 28개 국가를 대상으로 2008년부터 2011년 동안 정보통신기술 활용성과를 진단한 결과, 자료포락분석에서는 전체적인 ICT 효율성이 감소한 것으로 나타나 외형적 성장에 비해 실질적인 ICT 활용 부문은 부진한 것으로 판단되었고, 맘퀴스트지수 분석결과에서도 전체적인 ICT 생산성은 지난 3개년 구간동안 개선되지 않은 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 분석결과를 종합적으로 고려해 볼 때, ICT 활용성과를 제고하기 위해서는 지금까지 추진해온 물리적 요소의 양적 투입에 의존하는 외형적 개발정책보다는 투입요소와 산출물을 합목적적으로 연계시키고 ICT 활용 효율성을 증진시킬 수 있는 다각적인 운영 합리화 방안이 필요하다고 본다.

Using the Malmquist productivity index, this paper compares the productivity of Korean manufacturing industries from 1999 to 2006. The malmquist productivity index has more advantages than previous methods such as solow model, endogenous growth theory. The malmquist productivity index can be decomposed productivity into two parts. The first part is an index of the technical efficiency change. This index has high value when the elements of production is used more efficiently. The second part is an index of technical change. This index has high value if the advent of new technology and process innovation occur.
Vietnam is conducting an export-led growth model and labour-intensive industries contributing majorly to the total export value. In the context of Industry 4.0, the labour-based industries are significantly affected; hence, enhancing productivity is the key measure to maintain these industries. The garment industry contributes significantly to the total export value of Vietnam. Based on meta-frontier framework, the approach of data envelopment analysis is used to measure technical efficiency of Vietnamese garment firms and the global Malmquist TFP index is utilised to identify productivity change and its components including efficiency, technology and technical gaps between different groups of firms. The data of Vietnamese garment firms from 2013 to 2018 collected from the Vietnam General Statistic Office is used in this study. The results show that: (i) The total factor productivity of Vietnamese garment firms growth, technical progress is the main contributor; (ii) The private garment sector is the leading group; (iii) There is a large technological gap among Vietnamese garment sectors. The private and FDI garment firms have experienced a growth in all components of total factor productivity change. Meanwhile, technological progress change is the main reason to constrain the productivity growth of state-owned garment firms.
Seaports play a vital role in the economic development of countries, especially for countries having long coastlines such as Vietnam .Seaport industry in Vietnam has witnessed an impressive development in recent years. The national cargo throughput in the period 2013-2017 achieved a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.8%/year, higher than that of the world (5.1%). However, the differences in planning policies and infrastructure systems has led to the differences in port performance efficiency of regional ports. Therefore, it is necessary to have a general and accurate view of the picture of Vietnam’s seaport. The objective of this study was to analyze the relative efficiencies of 26 Vietnam container terminals using traditional output-oriented CCR and BCC DEA model. Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) was also applied to evaluate changes in container terminals productivity over time.
The purpose of this study is to investigate empirical evidences of productivity of life insurance institutions in Malaysia. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the productivity of the life insurance institutions in Malaysia. The overall findings show that the total factor productivity (TFP) has progressed by 2.5% per year during the study period from 2012 to 2016 in the Malaysian insurance industry. However, TFP change has declined from 2012 to 2015 and observed a negative growth in 2015-16 (3.3%). The highest productivity progress was documented during 2012-13 at a rate of 11.7% while the minimum productivity progress was during 2014-15 (only 0.2%). The results also indicate that the decomposition of TFP found that overall progress could mainly be attributed to technological change (TC). However, technical efficiency change (TEC) and pure technical efficiency change (PTE) have negative impact on TFP. The findings also show that most of the insurance companies have a steady growth. Therefore, this study will contribute new insights for the policy makers and insurance institutions to take appropriate steps in developing relevant policies for increasing productivity of insurance institutions in Malaysia
The efficiency of port operations is an important indicator of port development. Moreover, there is excess handling capacity in Chinese ports, which results in a slower speed of development. Under the detrimental environment of the international shipping market, it is necessary to improve the operation efficiency of ports for long-term development. This paper provides an assessment of the competitiveness of Chinese seaport companies using the Boston Consulting Group’s matrix, and efficiency measurements using a data envelopment analysis and the Malmquist method. This analysis showed that highly efficient companies reformed their development strategies, which should be a solution considered by less efficient companies, such as Shenzhen Yan Tian Port Holdings Co., Ltd.. Although, having high throughput should be reformed in the investment structure. This research will assist port companies in gaining effective operating experience, and governments in establishing strategic planning to enhance the efficiency of port development.
