Up to date cosmetic OEM/ODM (original equipment manufacturing/original development manufacturing) industry receives attention as a future growth engine due to steady growth. However, because of limited research and development capability, many companies have employed commercial management platforms specialized for large-sized companies; thus, overall system effectiveness and efficiency is low. Especially, MRP (material requirement planning) system introduced originally in 1970s is employed to calculate the requirement of the parts. However, dynamic nature of production lead time usually results in incorrect requirements. In addition, its algorithm does not consider the capability of the production resources. Also, because the commercial MRP system calculates all subcomponent for fixed period, the more goods have subcomponent, the slower calculation is. Therefore, conventional MRP system cannot respond complicated situation in time. In this study, we will suggest a new method that can respond to complicated situations resulting from short lead time and urgent production order in Korean cosmetic market. In particular, a distributed MRP system is proposed, that consists of multi-functional and operational modules, based on the characteristic of the BOM (bill of material). The distributed MRP system divides components (i.e. products and parts) into several fields and decrease the problem size; thus, we can respond to dynamically changed data any time. Through this solution, we can order components quickly, adjust schedules and planned quantity, and manage stocks reasonably. In addition, a prototype of the distributed MRP system is presented in this paper, in which ERP (enterprise resource planning) sever data is associated with an excel spreadsheet via MSsql. System user interface is implemented by a VBA (visual basic for applications) tool. According to a case study, response rate for delivery and planning achievement rate were enhanced about 20%, and inventory turnover was also decreased. Consequently, the proposed system improves overall profit.

Environmental pollution including air, land, and water has become one of the most critical issues in global interest. The damages due to environmental pollution lead to serious disasters. Nations have realized the importance of environment protection and have been starting to force organizations to implement environmental management system (EMS) as way of protecting environment. ISO 14001 requirements that are the most popular standard as EMS have been developed to support continuous improvement to environment management. It has been revised once since publication and ISO 14001 : 2004 version is currently available. Organizations globally started to acquire the certificate of EMS to observe environment related laws, accept customers’ and stakeholders’ request, increase market share, and fulfill implementation motives. This article examines the audit data that were collected for several years from manufacturing companies including shipbuilding, machinery, metal, automobiles, and chemical companies in southeastern Korea on the basis of ISO 14001 : 2004 requirements. The audit data were classified into minor nonconformities based on factors such as business size, business type, and EMS implementation period. We conduct hypotheses test using statistical methods in order to see if there are any significant differences based on the factors. We draw conclusions for the results of hypotheses test and address the necessities of energy, greenhouse gas, green management, and continuous improvement to enhance the efficiency of EMS implementation.

The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of using waste stone and waste stone sludge, generated by stone grinding operations, as substitutes for natural resources. In addition, the possibility of expanding the scope of safe recycling was confirmed via an environmental assessment. This assessment was carried out by measuring particle size distributions and physical and chemical characteristics, as well as via dissolution and content tests. Waste stones and powdered waste stone sludge generated from the I-, K-, and R-quarries located in the Geochang area were selected and sampled. The pH was weakly alkaline (7.74 - 9.7), and the water content ranged from 21.29% to 32.57%. Only the Iquarry sample exceeded the 30% water content limit. The Waste Control Act regulates the use of filler materials such as bottom restoration and lowland materials in the quarry to less than 30%. Leaching tests conducted using I-, K-, and R-quarry samples were analyzed. The samples did not exceed the controlled waste criteria for hazardous substances defined by the Waste Management Act. The limits for Pb, Cr, As, Hg, Cd, and Cr6+ are 3 mg/L, 3 mg/L, 1.5 mg/L, 0.005 mg/L, 0.3 mg/L, and 1.5 mg/L, respectively. Based on the results of content tests, only Cu (252 mg/Kg) exceeded the 1 area standard (150 mg/kg) for troublesome soil contamination defined in the Enforcement Regulations of the Soil Environment Conservation Act. Based on this environmental assessment, current policies allow expansion of recycling.
