Fluorine heteroatoms were introduced to increase the limited specific capacitances of electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), and the effects of the fluorine atoms were analyzed. To introduce the fluorine, a CF4 plasma treatment was used that introduced the fluorine atoms quickly. Among the fluorine functional groups in the F6-ACA framework, the semi-ionic C–F bonds induced rapid charge transfer and imparted pseudocapacitance. Consequently, we achieved a specific capacitance of 325.68 F/g for the F6-CA sample at 0.5 A/g. By analyzing the contributions of the electric double-layer capacitance and the pseudocapacitance, we determined that the contribution from the pseudocapacitance was 37.57%. A remarkable specific capacitance retention rate of 95.87% was obtained over 1000 charge/discharge cycles with a high current density of 3 A/g. Additionally, the semi-ionic C–F bonds reduced the charge transfer resistance ( Rct) by 36.8%. Therefore, the specific capacitance was improved by the fluorine heteroatoms, and the semi-ionic C–F bonds played a pivotal role in this improvement.
Rarefied cosmic plasmas generally do not achieve thermodynamic equilibria, and a natural consequence of this is the presence of a significant population of charged particles with energies well above those of the bulk population. These are exemplified by the galactic cosmic rays, but the importance of these high energy populations extends well beyond that context. I review here some of the basic issues associated with the propagation and acceleration of cosmic rays, especially in the context of collisionless plasma shocks.
The oxidation of methane was carried out in six different configurations of plasma reactors in order to study the radical reactions inside and outside of the plasma zone and to explore the method to control them. Various radicals and reactive molecules, such as CH, CH2, CH3, H, and O(from O2) were generated in the plasma. A variety of products were produced through many competing reaction pathways. Among them. partial oxidation products were usually not favored, because the intermediates leading to the partial oxidation products could be oxidized further to carbon dioxides easily. It is important to control the free radical reactions in the plasma reactor by controlling the experimental conditions so that the reactions leading to the desired products are the major pathways
Properties of plasmas that constitute the plasma sheet in the near-Earth magnetotail vary according to the solar wind conditions and location in the tail. In this case study, we present multi-spacecraft observations by Cluster that show a transition of plasma sheet from cold, dense to hot, tenuous state. The transition was associated with the passage of a spatial boundary that separates the plasma sheet into two regions with cold, dense and hot, tenuous plasmas. Ion phase space distributions show that the cold, dense ions have a Kappa distribution while the hot, tenuous ions have a Maxwellian distribution, implying that they have different origins or are produced by different thermalization processes. The transition boundary separated the plasma sheet in the dawn-dusk direction, and slowly moved toward the dawn flank. The hot, tenuous plasmas filled the central region while the cold, dense plasmas filled the outer region. The hot, tenuous plasmas were moving toward the Earth, pushing the cold, dense plasmas toward the flank. Different types of dynamical processes can be generated in each region, which can affect the development of geomagnetic activities.
By adopting a 2D time-dependent wave code, we investigate how mode-converted waves at the Ion-Ion Hybrid (IIH) resonance and compressional waves propagate in 2D density structures with a wide range of field-aligned wavenumbers to background magnetic fields. The simulation results show that the mode-converted waves have continuous bands across the field line consistent with previous numerical studies. These waves also have harmonic structures in frequency domain and are localized in the field-aligned heavy ion density well. Our results thus emphasize the importance of a field-aligned heavy ion density structure for ultra-low frequency wave propagation, and suggest that IIH waves can be localized in different locations along the field line.
