본 연구는 시각장애 특수학교 고등학생의 여가생활 경험을 통해 시각장애 학생에게 여가는 어떠한 의미인지, 여가를 어떻게 보내고 있는지, 그리고 보다 나은 여가생활을 위해 필요한 것이 무엇인지에 관하여 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 시각장애 특수학교 고등학교 과정에 재학 중인 청소년 7명을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 결과, 시각장애학생은 주어진 상황과 여건에 맞추어 여가를 경험하고 있었으며, 자신의 삶에서 여가가 필요한 이유나 여가를 통해 얻을 수 있는 이점을 인식하고 있었다. 시각장애 고등학생은 반복적인 단조로운 여가생활을 하면서, 때로는 주변 사람과 함께하는 여가를 통해 다양한 프로그램에 참여하면서 보다 많은 경험을 하고 있었다. 그리고 시각장애 특수학교 고등학생은 시력의 한계로 인해 여가생활에 참여 하면서 다양한 어려움도 존재하였다. 또한, 시각장애학생은 자신이 좋아하는 여가활동에 참여하면서 자신의 진로에 대해 고민해보기도 하고, 여가시간을 자신의 미래를 위해 준비하는 시간으로 보내기도 하였다.

The purpose of this study was to examine what leisure means to high school students with visual impairments, their current leisure life experiences, and what they want to do to have a better leisure life. In this study, seven high school students who are in school for the blind participated. The participants were interviewed using semi-structured questions. The interviews were recorded and transcribed and then analyzed according to qualitative analysis. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the students with visual impairments recognize leisure as free time when they are able to do what they want to do, and as break time after their daily work. Second, the students with visual impairments spend their leisure time repeating passive activities. Finally, students with visual impairments prepare for their future employment during leisure time. Diverse leisure programs are required for students with visual impairments so that they can socialize with non-visually impaired students naturally.
