이 연구는 통일 문학교육을 실천하기 위한 기초연구로서 대학생들의 북한에 대한 인식과 태도를 확인한 것이다. 이를 위하여 먼저 통일과 북한에 대한 대학생의 인식을 정보와 관심의 영역으로 나누어 살폈다. 충북지역 K대학 재학생 1～4학년 232명을 대상으로 2019년 6월 설문조사를 실시한 결과, 응답자의 16.8%가 통일에 대해 생각해 본 적이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 응답자들은 북한에 대하여 57.8%가 별다른 관심을 보이지 않았다. 통일을 화제에 올리거나 관련 검색을 하지 않았다고 한다. 그리고 연구자의 조사에 따르면 현재 남한 문학 교과서에 소개된 통일 주제의 소설작품은 4편이었다. 이렇게 볼 때, 우선 통일 교육을 위해서는 북한의 상황을 알리고 교류 확대를 도모하는 것이 필요해 보인다. 이를 통해 긍정적인 관심을 높이고 실천의 통로를 넓히는 것이 필요하다고 보여 진다. 이를 위해 통일을 주제로 한 소설을 교과서에 적극적으로 실을 필요가 있다고 본다. 이런 맥락에서 이 글은 ｢쇠찌르레기｣와 ｢림진강｣을 가지고 북한의 속살을 살피고 북한 소설의 양상과 교육적 활용을 고민하였다.

This study looked at the perception and attitudes that university students in South Korea have toward North Korea to serve as a basic study for putting unification literary education in practice. To this end, the study first examined the degree of perception of university students about unification and North Korea by dividing them according to information and interest. The result of calculating quantitative data of 232 college students in the 1st to 4th year of university revealed that 16.8% of them had never thought about unification. In addition, 57.8% of them showed no interest in North Korea. They responded they rarely discussed unification or searched for it on the Internet. Furthermore, it was found that there are four novels dealing with the subject of unification in the current literature textbooks in South Korea. From this perspective, it was found that, first of all, for the education after unification, it would be urgent to let the situation of North Korea known and expand exchanges between the two Koreas to raise positive interests and widen the channels of action. For this, it is necessary to actively include novels on the subject of unification in textbooks. From that point of view, this thesis examines the reality in North Korea with works like “Soejjileulegi” and “Limjin River” and contemplates the aspects and of North Korean novels and their educational use.
