1960년대 이후로 현대 사회에서 공동체 문제를 중심으로 한 논의가 활발하 게 이루어져 왔다. 조르조 아감벤은 인류사회의 이상적인 공동체와 관련한 학계 의 지속적 논쟁에 대한 해법을 제시하고자 했다. 아감벤은 􋺷도래하는 공동체􋺸 에서 ‘도래하는 공동체’의 특성에 관하여 직접적 언급을 하지는 않지만, 모든 인간의 개별 고유성을 담보하는 이상적 공동체의 가능성을 탐색한다. 그는 책의 시작부터 ‘사물화’와 ‘전체성’의 공동체에 맞서는 ‘임의적 특이성’의 속성에 대 하여 설명한다. 그의 숙고는 단지 철학적 질문뿐만 아니라 유대․기독교 맥락 에서의 영적 인식 차원을 포함하고 있다. ‘임의적 특이성’을 중심으로 한 아감 벤의 철학적 사유는 ‘도래하는 공동체’와 ‘도래하는 영성’을 함께 논의의 대상 으로 삼고 있다. 􋺷도래하는 공동체􋺸에서 조명되고 있는 ‘임의적 특이성’은 기본 적으로 온전한 ‘임의성’을 지닌 존재로서 인간을 구원하는 잠재성과 연결되어 있다.

As the issue of community in modern society was remarkably elevated since the 1960s, Giorgio Agamben tried to uncover an answer for the ongoing argument on ideal community. Agamben does not directly mention the characteristics of ‘the coming community’ though, he searches for the potentiality of an ideal community which guarantees each and every person’s uniqueness in The Coming Community. From the beginning of the book, he illustrates the philosophical concept of ‘whatever.’ He illuminates the attributes of ‘whatever singularity’ which confronts the community of ‘materialization’ and ‘totality.’ His speculation includes not only a philosophical question but also spiritual recognition in the context of Judeo-Christianity. Agamben’s ‘whatever singularity’ reflects ‘the coming community’ and ‘the coming spirituality’ together, because it is essentially connected with the potentiality of saving a person as a whole ‘whatever entity.’
