        The primary purpose of the paper is to show that such phenomena as the cliticization of weak pronouns, TH/EX in there constructions and the wh-movement from extracted nominals can fall under one generalization called "defocusing", a pragmatic operation that cannot be applied twice to the same syntactic object. We argue, in this paper, TH/EX is not a PF operation but a pragmatic operation before Spell-Out. In our model, syntactic objects should go through all the syntactic and/or pragmatic operations before they reach the interface and lexical insertion is a 24hr outlet rather than a one-fell-swoop operation.

        This article explores the nature of locality principle. In particular, we compare two recent conceptions of locality, which are Chomsky`s (2001a, 2001b) phase-based implementation of locality and Hiraiwa`s (2003) version of cyclic derivational locality. We present a new piece of empirical arguments against Hiraiwa (2003) from locality circumvention effects observed in passivization of applicative structures. We show that the locality circumvention phenomenon induced by wh-movement of a higher internal argument when a lower internal argument undergoes passivizing A-movement past it in low applicative structures cannot be explained under Hiraiwa`s cyclic locality computation, whereas it can be well accounted for under Chomsky`s phase-based evaluation view, which is a partly representational version of locality principle.

        2차원 고상 핵자기 공명기(2-dimensional solid-state NMR, 이하 2차원 고상NMR)와 관련된 기술과 이론의 발전과 더불어 획기적으로 증가한 스펙트럼의 분해능으로 기존의 일차원 NMR 로는 얻을 수 없었던, 비정질 규산염(유리질, 용융체, silicate glasses and melts)의 다양한 원자-분자 단위의 구조를 규명할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 2차원 고상 NMR 방법론의 하나인 3QMAS NMR을 이용하여 이전까지 알려지지 않았던 고압환경에서의 비정질 지구물질의 원자/분자 구조에 대한 최근의 연구결과를 간략히 소개한다.

        Practically, it is very hard to investigate the rural villages in North Korea. The Korean rural village in Yanbian is proximate from North Korea and most of inhabitants of the village have been emigrated from Hamgyeong-Do and Pyeongan-Do. In this sense, it can be meaningful to study Korean villages in Yanbian is an alternative approach toward researches of North Korean rural villages. In this study, spatial characteristics of the Ryongsan village, Ryongjeong city was studied as a representative korean rural village in Yanbian. The Ryongsan village has been formed based on the traditional culture and custom of North Korea. The case of planning and design is provided through drawings of components for planning of rural villages based on the results of spatial characteristics analysis.

        Catalytic wet oxidation of trichloroethylene (TCE) in water has been conducted using TiO2-supported cobalt oxides at 36oC with a weight hourly space velocity of 7,500 h-1. 5% CoOx/TiO2, prepared by using an incipient wetness technique, might be the most promising catalyst for the wet oxidation although it exhibited a transient behavior in time on-stream activity. Not only could the bare support be inactive for the wet decomposition reaction, but no TCE removal also occurred by the process of adsorption on TiO2 surface. The catalytic activity was independent of all particle sizes used, thereby representing no mass transfer limitation in intraparticle diffusion. XPS spectra of both fresh and used Co surfaces gave different surface spectral features for each CoOx. Co 2p3/2 binding energy for Co species in the fresh catalyst appeared at 781.3 eV, which is very similar to the chemical states of CoTiOx such as Co2TiO4 and CoTiO3. The used catalyst exhibited a 780.3-eV main peak with a satellite structure at 795.8 eV. Based on XPS spectra of reference Co compound, the TCE-exposed Co surfaces could be assigned to be in the form of mainly Co3O4. XRD patterns for 5% CoOx/TiO2 catalyst indicated that the phase structure of Co species in the catalyst even before reaction is quite comparable to the diffraction lines of external Co3O4 standard. A model structure of CoOx present predominantly on titania surfaces would be Co3O4, encapsulated in thin-film CoTiOx species consisting of Co2TiO4 and CoTiO3, which may be active for the decomposition of TCE in a flow of water.
