        몬순 기간에 구름의 복사 강제력의 영향을 파악하기 위하여 1998년 4월부터 9월까지 International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) 구름자료와 GEWEX Asian Monsoon Experiment (GAME) 재분석 자료를 입력 자료로 복사 모델을 수행하여 3차원의 장파 복사 플럭스를 구하였다. 구름에 의한 대기 복사 가열은 구름을 포함한 평균 대기와 맑은 대기에서의 복사 가열율의 차이를 이용하여 계산하였다 구름에 의한 복사 가열율이 아시아 몬순에 미치는 영향을 중점적으로 살펴보았다. 구름에 의한 복사 가열은 인도양에서 최대를 티벳 고원에서 최소를 나타내어, 남북으로 차등 가열의 경도를 나타내었다. 이러한 차등 가열이 대기 순환의 최대 원인임을 고려해볼 때, 인도양과 티벳 고원에서의 구름에 의한 차등 가열의 경도는 해들리 타입의 남북 몬순 순환을 강화시키고 있다. 또한 운정에서의 가열, 운저에서의 냉각의 형태로 나타나는 구름의 복사 가열 분포는, 대기의 불안정성을 높여서 몬순 순환을 증대시킬 수 있는 역할을 하고 있다.

        This study investigates how wikis can promote EFL student writing by providing a real audience and authentic purposes for writing. The activity described in this paper is writing a narrative story on a wiki. Thirty-eight college students participated in this activity. During the activity the students constructed and negotiated meaning collaboratively. They posted a total of 153 versions and made 530 changes over four weeks. This study identifies the students' idiosyncratic writing and editing patterns that appeared on the wiki in the dimension of level, type, and purpose. The study employs both qualitative and quantitative data analysis for a more robust data analysis and triangulation of the data. The final product of the students' writing on the wiki exhibited that peer editing was effective in enhancing the quality of writing. While students viewed writing as a solitary and private activity in many EFL writing classrooms, the students in this study perceived writing as a social and communicative activity when engaged in the wiki writing activity.

        본 연구는 연안의 수질개선과 오염제어의 관점에서 효율적인 수질관리의 원리와 기법, 연안오염총량관리제 및 선진사례를 검토하였고, 현재 오염총량 산정시 나타나는 문제점 및 개선사항을 지적하였다. 또한, 오염총량제와 환경용량과의 관계, 해양환경 예측 모델로 활용되고 있는 생태계모델의 연구접근에서 중점적으로 검토해야 하는 사항을 토의하고, 나아가서 연안수질 관련 제도와 정책에서 반영하고 흡수해야 할 수질관리 내용과 개선방안을 제시하였다. 연안오염총량제의 대상이 되는 연안에서는 환경영향평가와 사전환경성검토에서 해당하는 개발사업이나 계획 중 신규 오염원에 대해서는 오염부하삭감량과 할당량을 산정해서 평가서에 구체적으로 제시할 필요가 있고, 연안관리지역계획에서는 환경관리계획에 좀 더 중심을 옮겨 기본적으로 관할 해역으로 유입하는 오염원과 오염부하량 자료를 구축할 필요가 있다. 특별관리해역 등 향후 연안오염총량제 적용대상이 되는 지자체에서는 하수도관리계획 등 도시계획을 수립할 때 이러할 점을 고려해서 장기적이고 일관성있는 하수도정책이 수립되어야 할 것이다. 연안오염총량제도는 다른 환경관리해역으로 점진적으로 확대 시행되어야 할 것이로, 그 외의 지역은 지자체장이 주부장관과의 협의를 통해 자발적으로 시행하고 인센티브를 주는 것도 검토해야 할 것이다. 해역의 수질개선을 위해서는 생태계모델링에 의한 환경용량(수질적 차원의 총허용오염부하량) 산정이 필수적이며, 이와 관련한 적용모델의 신뢰성과 과학적 타당성 확보는 환경영향평가 관련 협의시 매우 중요한 검토항목으로 고려되고 있다 연안 육역에 존재하는 오염원에 대해서는 연안환경을 관리하는 주무부처가 주도적으로 감시 감독하고 관리체제에 환한 법적 거를 마련하거나 관련 법률을 정비해서 통합 운영해야 할 것으로 사료되었다.

        본 연구에서는 엘니뇨현상과 인도양 쌍극자 모드(Indian Ocean Dipole, IOD) 현상의 상호 관련성과, 우리나라 기온, 강수량에 대한 두 현상의 영향을 분석하였다. 1954년부터 2004년까지 51년간 NINO 3 지수, IOD지수, 그리고 전국 11개 지점 지역평균한 월별 평균기온과 강수량 자료를 사용하였다. 엘니뇨현상과 IOD현상은 봄과 가을에는 동시 상관관계가 존재한다. 인도양에서 해수면온도 분포는 엘니뇨 해에는 남북진동이, IOD 해에는 동서진동 형태가 뚜렷하였다. 엘니뇨 해 우리나라에서는, 여름철에 냉하다우, 겨울철에 온난다우 경향이 뚜렷한 반면에, IOD 해에는 유의한 상관성을 찾을 수 없었다. 대기대순환에서도 엘니뇨 해에는 우리나라를 포함한 중위도에 통계적으로 신뢰할 만한 편차패턴이 나타나지만, IOD 해에는 그렇지 않았다.

        This paper is concerned with the ongoing influence of in-service teacher education upon teachers’ instructional behavior and attitudes. Thus the purpose of this study is to trace attitudinal and instructional changes after in-service teacher training and thereby identify either favorable or unfavorable factors affecting such changes in classroom settings. First, a survey was conducted to see which teacher training programs teachers preferred, uncover any changes in instructional behavior and attitudes as well as factors related to said changes, and gather suggestions for prospective teacher training programs. For additional data, four teachers’ reflective journals and interviews were analyzed. The results of the study were as follows: 1) teachers believed that a teacher’s techniques rather than their English proficiency have the most direct influence upon effective English instruction; 2) changes in both behavior and attitudes are observed for only a short period right after in-service teacher education; and 3) a major factor impeding change is the discrepancy between the English language curriculum and actual classroom instruction, which is largely due to the washback effect of the requirements of the Scholastic Aptitude Test required for college admission.

        The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 14(1). Verbal interaction styles reflect the overall values and patterns of a culture. As Hall (1976) suggests, meaning or intention in low-context communication is best expressed through explicit verbal messages, while in high-context communication it is best conveyed through context and non-verbal channels such as pauses, silence and tone of voice. If different verbal styles are ignored or not understood, miscommunication may occur in cross-cultural communication, which may contribute to communication conflict or even hostile stereotyping (Milroy 1984: 26). Understanding of communication rules, sociocultural norms, and inferences involved in conversation are being accorded greater importance in language teaching and learning for effective communication in intercultural interactions. This paper introduces different communication styles based on cultural diversity, discusses the extent to which Korean EFL students are concerned with English pragmatic strategies, and analyzes Korean language and culture influence on their communication styles in English speech. This paper shows that Korean EFL students attempt to follow English styles in English conversation but their communication styles in English are largely influenced by their native language and culture, which can lead to miscommunication and conflict in intercultural interactions.

        The main goal of this work is to study the effects of temperature and volume fraction of fiber on the Charpy impact test with GF/PP composites. The critical fracture energy and failure mechanisms of GF/PP composites are investigated in the temperature range of 60℃ to -50℃ by impact test. The critical fracture energy increased as the fiber volume fraction ratio increased. The critical fracture energy shows a maximum at ambient temperature and it tends to decreases as temperature goes up or goes down. Major failure mechanisms can be classified such as fiber matrix debonding, fiber pull-out and/or delamination and matrix deformation.

        Since the teaching of English was introduced into the primary school as a required subject in 1997, no achievement test has been administered for the purpose of comparing English achievement of primary school students who are receiving private instruction with that of those who are not. The purpose of this study was to investigate what impact private instruction had on English achievement of third- and fourth-year students in the primary school. For this purpose, an English achievement test was developed based on the 7th national curriculum and two questionnaires were administered: one questionnaire among 743 third- and fourth-year primary school students and the other among 22 primary school teachers. The results showed that students who were receiving private instruction outperformed those who were not on the English achievement test and that teachers had difficulty in handling English class due to the discrepancy of overall English proficiency between tutored students and non-tutored students. The findings suggest that teacher training needs to be intensified to ensure quality English language teaching in the primary school.

        Many of researches regarding mechanical properties of composite materials are associated with humid environment and temperature. Especially the temperature is a very important factor influencing the design of thermoplastic composites. However, the effect of temperature on impact behavior of reinforced composites have not yet been fully explored. An approach which predicts critical fracture toughness GIC was performed by the impact test in this work. The main goal of this work is to study the effect of temperature and span of specimen supports on the results of Charpy impact test for GF/PE composite. The critical fracture energy and failure mechanism of GF/PE composites were investigated in the temperature range of 60℃;to;-50℃ by the Charpy impact test. The critical fracture energy showed the maximum at the ambient temperature, and it tended to decrease as the temperature increased or decreased from the ambient temperature.
