        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of fall injuries on the balancing abilities and ankle flexibility. Fifteen of the voluntary participants had no experience of falling in the last two years (none falling group, NFG) and 15 others experienced at least one (falling group, FG). Static balance (sway length, sway area), dynamic balance (timed up and go (TUG), and functional to reach test (FRT) were measured in each group. In comparison of static balance, sway length was not significantly different between NFG and FG in both eyes open and eyes close, however the sway area of the FG was significantly wider than that of the NFG (p<.05). In dynamic balance comparisons, TUG of FG was significantly longer than that of NFG (p <.05), however FRT and STS were no significant difference between groups. Ankle flexibility was significantly higher in NFG than in FG. This study suggests that the fall prevention program should include methods for improving ankle stability and lower extremity function.

        현재 농가에서 이용되고 있는 보광등과 난방등의 특성을 조사하고 하우스내 기상 환경과 절화장미의 개화와 품질에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 실험을 수행하였다. 보광등으로는 LED등(light emitting diode lamp, LED), 메탈할라이드등(metal halide lamp, MH), 고압나트륨등(high pressure sodium lamp, HPS)을, 난방등으로는 나노탄소섬유 적외선등(nano-carbon fiber infrared lamp, NCFI)을 절화장미 재배상 위에 설치하였다. 그 결과 LED와 NCFI의 광도는 각각 6.8μmol·m-2·s-1과 0.4μmol·m-2·s-1으로 매우 낮은 반면, MH와 HPS는 79 ~ 100μmol·m-2·s-1 범위로 높은 편이었다. 또한 LED와 MH는 적외선역에 파장이 없어 발열량이 거의 없었으나, HPS와 NCFI는 적외선역에 파장이 많아 발열이 많은 것으로 나타났다. 동일한 공간에서 칸막이로 실험구간을 나누어 실험이 수행되었음에도 불구하고 MH, HPS, NCFI에 의해 온도는 2°C 정도 상승되는 결과를 얻었으나, 습도에서는 처리간 차이가 보이지 않았다. 광도에 상관없이 모든 전등들은 절화장미의 개화를 촉진시켜 무처리구에 비해 적게는 5 ~ 7일, 많게는 12 ~ 14일 개화가 촉진되는 것으로 나타났다. 광량이 충분한 봄철에는 전조처리에 의해 개화소요일수가 짧아지는 만큼 절화장도 대조구보다 짧아졌지만, 광량이 부족한 겨울철에는 전조처리에 의해 절화장이 길어져 품질이 향상되는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

        목적: 안질환과 시기능에 이상이 없는 굴절이상 중 근시 어린이의 안경렌즈 교체주기에 따른 근시도 변 화를 관찰하여, 근시변화에 대한 적절한 조치를 취하기 위한 기초자료를 제시하고자 한다. 방법: 연구방법으로 대구광역시 소재 한 안경원의 고객 중 2013년 1월에서 2015년 12월 사이에 방문한 7 세에서 11세 사이(9.05±1.24) 안질환이 없는 근시안 291명(남 172명, 여 119명)을 대상으로 총 582안의 등 가구면 도수의 변화를 관찰하였다. 결과: 총 291명 중 1년 동안 관찰했던 사람은 291명이며 교체주기는 1~2회였고, 2년 동안 관찰했던 사람 은 193명이며 교체주기는 1~4회였으며, 3년 동안 관찰했던 사람은 106명이며 교체주기는 2~5회였다. 1년 간 등가구면 도수의 변화는 1회 OD : -058±0.35 D, OS : -0.56±0.38 D, 2회 OD : -0.94±0.61 D, OS : -0.87±0.56 D이었다. 2년간 등가구면 도수의 변화는 1회 OD : -0.58±0.30 D, OS : -0.58±0.30 D, 2 회 교체 시 –1.14±0.48 D, 3회 교체 시 –1.34±0.60 D, 4회 교체 시 –2.04±1.16 D 이었다. 3년간 등가구면 도수의 변화는 2회 OD : –1.32±0.58 D, OS : –1.45±0.39 D, 3회 OD : –1.68±0.59 D, OS : –1.59± 0.46 D, 4회 OD : –1.99±0.82 D, OS : –1.93±0.64 D, 5회 OD : –2.34±0.66 D, OS : –2.27±0.72 D이었다. 나이별 등가구면 도수의 변화량을 보면 7세에서 –0.71±0.78 D, 8세 –0.70±0.53 D, 9세 –0.60±0.66 D, 10 세 –0.55±0.60 D, 11세 –0.47±0.46 D로 나이가 올라가면서 도수의 변화는 줄어들었다. 결론: 근시 어린이의 안경렌즈의 교체 주기가 짧을수록 등가구면의 도수의 변화는 많았다. 나이별 등가구면 도수의 변화량은 나이가 올라갈수록 도수의 변화량은 줄어들었다. 근시의 완전 교정으로 인해 근거리 작업 시 저 교정 상태의 안경보다 더 많은 조절력이 요구되고, 그로 인해 근시가 더욱 빠르게 진행된다고 사료된다. 근시의 저 교정은 근시의 진행을 완화시키지만, 입체시의 저하, 시자극의 결핍으로 약 시의 원인이 될 수 있고, 양측 시각장애의 원인이 될 수 있다. 또한 독서 속도, 집중의 기능을 저하시킬 수 있다. 약시의 원인을 제거하고 독서 속도와 집중 기능의 향상을 위해서 충분한 교정시력이 나오는 원거리 안 경과, 작업거리에 따른 근거리 안경을 따로 사용하는 것을 권장한다.

        Oxidative stress is one of common cause of fatty changes in the liver. Antioxidant capacity was confirmed in various vegetables including black radish (Raphanus sativus L. var niger). Fermentation of vegetables using Lactobacillus plantarum has been known to generate bioactive components. This study was conducted to determine if fermented black radish (FBR) ameliorates oxidative liver injury induced by CCl4 in rats. To accomplish this, FBR (250 and 500 mg/ kg) was orally administered to rats for 7 consecutive days, single CCl4 (1.5 mL/kg) treatment or no treatment orally. Serum chemistry at 24 hours after CCl4 injury showed that FBR (500 mg/kg) significantly reduced the level of both alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase in CCl4 exposed rats. Moreover, FBR treatment significantly increased radical-scavenging effects in livers with the reduction of lipid peroxidation in CCl4 exposed rats. Histopathologic findings including Kupffer cell activation in the liver of each group matched those of serum chemistry. Collectively, black radish, through fermentation, exerts hepatoprotective capacity in CCl4 induced liver injury in rats through anti-oxidation.

        An increased use of organic phosphorous based chemical pesticides in domestic and overseas agriculture has resultedin emergence of tolerant strains of insect pests. These pests have spread throughout South Korea and are responsible forsignificant reduction in crop yields. Furthermore, as yet there is no effective way of controlling these insects or the damageresulting from pest infestation. To this end, we are attempting to develop biological control based methods to protectcrop plants against insect pests. A screen for biocontrol agents conducted in five farms that were heavily infested bynematodes in 2015-2016 identified Aspergillus niger F22 strain that was very effective against root-knot nematode. Afour-time treatment with A. niger F22 at an internal of ten days was able to reduce nematode population by 70-90%compared to untreated controls. The biocontrol agent was also more effective compared to ograno-phosphorus based pesticide,which caused a 30% reduction in nematode population. Notably, the extract (suspension concentrate) prepared from A.niger culture was equally effective in controlling the root-knot nematode and is currently being developed as a marketableproduct under the brand name “NAMAFREE”.

        Oyster mushrooms are one of the most famous mushrooms for foods in Korea. ‘Santari’ developed on this study is P. pulmonarius of oyster mushroom species. ‘Santari’ is a new variety of oyster mushroom for the bottle culture. It was bred by mating with monokaryons isolated from ‘GMPO20404’ and ‘Hosan’. The optimum temperature for the mycelial growth was 26~29°C on PDA medium and that for the primordia formation and the growth of fruiting body of ‘Santari’ was 22°C and 20°C on sawdust media. It took 34 days to finish spawn running, 3 days to finish primordia formation, 3 days to finish fruitbody growth in the bottle culture. In the characteristics of fruit body, pilei were round type and brownish, stipe color was white and stipe shape was long and thick. The yield per bottle was 172g/1,100ml and was 43% higher than that of control variety(Hosan). As results of the physical properties of fruit body, springness, cohesive, gumminess and brittleness of stipe tissue were 87%, 82%, 193g and 16kg, respectively. The values of them are lower than those of control except cohesive.

        Mushrooms have antioxidant, antitumor and antimicrobial activities, so they and their extracts including purified ingredients are being used as a great source of functional food, drugs and especially nutraceuticals. They have many bioactive compounds such as polysaccharides (mainly β-glucans), glycoproteins, nucleotide analogs, terpenoids and polyphenols. These compounds have biological activities such as anti-cancer, anti-viral, anti-obesity, immunomodulating activity and etc. In this review, we discussed the current bioactivity information related to 10 famous mushrooms in Korea. Mushrooms and active compounds derived from mushrooms were summarized as well as mushroom products such as foods, functional foods, and medicines. It can provide good information for scientists and customers who want to develop a new product and to promote health and life quality.

        Diets rich in flavonoid-containing foods are sometimes associated with cancer, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular disease prevention. β-glucan, one of the most important bioactive compounds in medicinal mushrooms, is used to boost the immune system, diabetes and cancer. In this study, we aimed to determine the content of two flavonoid compounds (naringenin and naringin) and β-glucan in Flammulina velutipes and Flammulina velutipe-gold strain. The naringenin, naringin, and β-glucan components from the Flammulina velutipes and Flammulina velutipe-gold strain were measured by the HPLC analysis. As a result, the contents of naringenin, naringin, and β-glucan were found to be much higher in Flammulina velutipe-gold strain than Flammulina velutipe. From the above results, we may suggest that Flammulina velutipe-gold strain might have useful as a material for functional food and pharmaceutics fir the pathological process of various human diseases.

        Recently, hair loss regarded as a mere means of middle-aged men due to stress and environmental pollution. The market for hair loss in Korea is about four trillion won and it is growing continuously. It is mainly made by mixing natural extracts such as medicinal plant. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 70% ethanol extracts of Phellinus linteus on the growth of fibroblasts, dermal papilla cells and lipid precursors, We want to try to make a materialization. The 70% ethanol extract of P. linteus on the cell viability of Human follicle dermal papilla cell (HFDPC), adipocyte (3T3-L1), fibroblast (CCD-986sk). The result the cell viability of HFDPC was increased according to the contents of ethanol extract of P. linteus. But the 70% ethanol extract of P. linteus showed weak inhibit activity in CCD-986sk cell growth. Also, the 70% ethanol extract of P. linteus did not inhibit the growth of 3T3-L1 cells. As a result of this study, in-vitro hair growth activity of herbal medicines for hair material development was not shown to be toxic to HFDPC and 3T3-L1 cell. As a result, the 70% ethanol extracts of P. linteus have potential to developing hair-related product.         The fungal mycelium-based composite is a new biomaterial to replace the existing composite material. To compete with lightweight, high-performance composites represented by fiber-reinforced plastic, various physical and chemical properties and functionality must be secured. Especially, the composite material made by using mushroom mycelium (or fruting bodies) is called mushroom plastic. Currently, Ecovative, Mycoworks, and Muskin in USA and Europe are launching new products including structural materials and leathers. Products utilizing mushroom mycelium can be launched in the market for construction materials, automobile interior materials and artificial leather substitutes. In spite of this high possibility, mass production using FMBC has not yet been reported. This presentation introduces the mycelium-based materials, a material that can replace existing plastics, inorganic building materials and animal skins in an environmentally and economically viable way, and looks at the possibility of future biomaterials by summarizing recent research contents.

        The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of task-oriented progressive resistance strength training and functional electrical stimulation (FES) on the gait speed and activity of daily living (ADL) in stroke patients. Twenty one patients diagnosed with stroke were randomly divided into 3 groups: the task-oriented progressive resistance strength training group (TPRSTG, n=7), the task-oriented progressive resistance strength training with FES group (TPRSTFESG, n=7), and the control group (CG, n=7). The length of intervention for each session in all groups was 30 minutes, and was performed once a day, 5 times a week, for a total of 6 weeks. The gait speed was measured using 10m walking velocity Test (10MWT) and the ADL was measured using the functional independence measure (FIM). TPRSTFESG demonstrated the most statistically significant lapse in 10MWT (p<.05). While post-intervention analysis showed a significant difference in ADL (p<.05), further analysis between each group indicated that there were no statistically significant differences between the groups post-intervention. These findings suggest that application of both task-oriented progressive resistance strength training with FES is the most effective intervention in improving gait speed.

        As a part of the effort to improve post-transfer survival rate of embryos in Korean black goats, a technique for laparoscopic uterine transfer of blastocysts was carried out. A total of 26 transferrable embryos (morula to expanded blastocysts) were transferred to 13 recipient goats via transabdominal laparoscopic method. In consequence of our hormone protocol, 65% of the recipients (13/20) were found to have synchronized estrus. After confirmation of corpus luteum in each recipient goat, a Babcock laparoscopic forceps was inserted into the lower abdominal cavity to hold a uterine horn and fasten it near the peritoneum without causing injury. Then 7.5cm long 16G IV catheter was inserted directly into the uterine lumen through the abdominal wall. After removal of the stylet of the IV catheter, the embryo transfer tube (identical in size to the stylet and loaded with blastocysts) was inserted into the uterine lumen through the catheter to unload the embryos. Of the 13 estrus synchronized recipients, 9 were transferred blastocysts and 4 were transferred molurae (2 embryos in each recipient) in uterine ipsilateral to the ovary with corpus luteum. Four of the 9 recipients which blastocysts were transferred using this method has been confirmed pregnant (44.4% pregnancy rate).
