        The green peach aphid(Myzus persicae) and sweet-potato whitefly(Bemisia tabaci) biotype Q are serious pests in hot pepper and cucumber. To optimize the formulation type of Clothianidin 1.8% granule, coated and extruded granule formulation types were tested against green peach aphid in hot pepper and sweetpotato whitefly in cucumber. Clothianidin 1.8% granules were incorporated in soil before transplant of hot pepper and cucumber. At recommend dose(540g ai/ha), the efficacy of Clothianidin 1.8% coated and extruded granules were 83.3% and 94.4% and continued until 50 days and 70 days against green peach aphid, respectively. Against sweet-potato whitefly, the efficacy of Clothianidin 1.8% coated and extruded granules were 65.7% and 96.3% at 32 days in cucumber, respectively. Clothianidin 1.8% extruded granule was safe on crops (hot pepper, cucumber, melon, cabbage etc.) at 540g ai/ha (recommend dose) and 1080g ai/ha. The results suggested that Clothianidin 1.8% extruded granule is promising as a best insecticide against green peach aphid and sweet-potato whitefly, because of the high efficacy and low phytotoxicity.

        nanopowders with anatase structure were firstly prepared by controlling the pH value of a precursor solution without any heat-treatment at room temperature. The prepared nanopowders were hydrothermally treated in 10M NaOH solution at . Then, the samples were washed in DI water or 0.1M HCl. The nanotubes were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The gas sensitivity of nanotubes for toluene gas was also investigated. The results show that nanotubes can be prepared by hydrothermal treatment. The morphology of nanotubes prepared by 0.1M HCl washing is destroyed to some extent. nanotubes with DI water washing show better sensitivity than that with 0.1M HCl washing.

        Many researchers reported biodegradation of environmental pollutants by white-rot fungi. Toward in situ bioremediation, we have investigated biodegradation of environmental pollutants by litter-decomposing fungi. In our results, lignin-degrading enzymes produced from litter-decomposing fungi are thought to participate in degradation of pentachlorophenol (PCP) and 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-DA). Then, we examined the biodegradation of PCP, 2,4-DA and the analogs of 2,4-DA by purified laccase and the role of redox mediator on laccase reaction. Laccase purified from Calvatia craniiformis decomposed phenolic compounds, PCP and 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DP), but not non-phenolic compounds, 2,4-DA and 2,4-dichlorophenoxy ethanol (2,4-DE), even in the presence of redox mediators. To clarify the reaction mechanism between the substrates and redox mediators, quantum chemical analysis was applied using MOPAC 2009 and Gaussian 03. The results of the heat of formation and the perturbation energy showed that even redox mediator radicals could not oxidize the non-phenolic compounds. Previously several reports showed that laccase-redox mediator systems decomposed non-phnolic compounds, but we propose that the system could not react on the chlorinated aromatic compounds based on the result of quantum analysis.

        Four activated carbons were produced by two-stage process as followings; semi-carbonization of indigenous biomass waste, i.e. cotton stalks, followed by chemical activation with KOH under various activation temperatures and chemical ratios of KOH to semi-carbonized cotton stalks (CCS). The surface area, total pore volume and average pore diameter were evaluated by N2-adsorption at 77 K. The surface morphology and oxygen functional groups were determined by SEM and FTIR, respectively. Batch equilibrium and kinetic studies were carried out by using a basic dye, methylene blue as a probe molecule to evaluate the adsorption capacity and mechanism over the produced carbons. The obtained activated carbon (CCS-1K800) exhibited highly microporous structure with high surface area of 950 m2/g, total pore volume of 0.423 cm3/g and average pore diameter of 17.8 a. The isotherm data fitted well to the Langmuir isotherm with monolayer adsorption capacity of 222 mg/g for CCS-1K800. The kinetic data obtained at different concentrations were analyzed using a pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion equations. The pseudo-second-order model fitted better for kinetic removal of MB dye. The results indicate that such laboratory carbons could be employed as low cost alternative to commercial carbons in wastewater treatment.

        In present work, amorphous TiCuNi powders were fabricated by mechanical alloying process. Amorphization and crystallization behaviors of the TiCuNi powders during high-energy ball milling and subsequent microstructure changes were studied by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope. TEM samples were prepared by the focused ion beam technique. The morphology of powders prepared with different milling times was observed by field-emission scanning electron microscope and optical microscope. The powders developed a fine, layered, homogeneous structure with milling times. The crystallization behavior showed that glass transition, , onset crystallization, , and super cooled liquid range were 628, 755 and 127K, respectively. The as-prepared amorphous TiCuNi powders were consolidated by spark plasma sintering process. Full densified TiCuNi samples were successfully produced by the spark plasma sintering process. Crystallization of the MA powders happened during sintering at 733K.

        In this work, effect of various process-control agents (PCAs) on the mechanical alloying of amorphous alloy of has been investigated. The dependence of the particle shape, size and crystallization behavior of the amorphous alloy powders on the type of PCAs and their concentrations was investigated by using X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. It was found that the additive of toluene could affect positively the amorphization and thermally induced crystallization processes, as well as the size refinement, morphology and particle-size distribution of as-milled powders in comparison with alloy obtained without PCA.

        A method of estimating the lower bound of coronal magnetic field strength in the neighborhood of an ejecting plasmoid is presented. Based on the assumption that the plasma ejecta is within a magnetic island, an analytical expression for the force acting on the ejecta is derived. The method is applied to a limb coronal mass ejection event, and a lower bound of the magnetic field strength just below the CME core is estimated. The method is expected to provide useful information on the strength of reconnecting magnetic field if applied to X-ray plasma ejecta.

        The fuel test loop consisted an in-pile test section (IPS) and an out-pile system (OPS) is an nuclear fuel irradiation test facility installed in HANARO and its operating temperature and pressure are similar to those of commercial nuclear power plant’s. Penetration pipe connecting the IPS and OPS at the reactor concrete wall is supported by pool-wall pipe support. The existing pool-wall pipe support established in the HANARO have insulations even thought the leak tightness is not ensured. So, the need for an isolation of the insulations from the HANARO cooling water makes the existing pool-wall pipe support newly designed. In this study a structural evaluation for the pool-wall pipe support in accordance with the 2001 ASME B&PV Section III NF is implemented. The most critical primary and secondary stress intensities occur at the modified connection area of the main cooling water pipe and plate ring, but those values are less than the allowable stress. It is concluded that the existing pool-wall pipe support could be modified to a newly designed shape having an isolated insulation from a HANARO cooling water.
