        PURPOSES : The aim of this study is to review freeze-and-thaw testing apparatuses, develop a freeze-and-thaw testing setup with a test protocol, test the freeze-and-thaw properties of soils collected from different parts of South Korea, and suggest an index for frost susceptibility criteria for soils found in South Korea. METHODS : Based on a literature review, a new freeze-thaw testing setup was developed. In addition, a test protocol was developed for freeze-thaw testing. Soils collected from different parts of South Korea and bedding sand used for block pavements were tested to determine whether the measurements from the newly developed test setup could capture important freeze-thaw characteristics of the soils. Finally, to develop local frost susceptibility criteria, a parameter including both the vertical deformation and thermal conductivity characteristics of the soils was suggested. RESULTS : The results from the laboratory experiments indicate that the newly developed freeze-and-thaw setup captures the required parameters to quantify the responses of soils subjected to cyclic freeze-and-thaw testing. In addition, a vertical deformation of up to 2.437 mm is measured. Moreover, seven soils out of the nine tested soils are classified as having a medium frost susceptibility, whereas the remaining two show low frost susceptibility. The bedding sand experiment also shows that there is a possibility of having a frost susceptible condition based on the moisture content. When submerged, the bedding sand is classified as having a medium frost susceptibility. CONCLUSIONS : The "HEART" freeze-thaw testing setup was able to capture the parameters required for evaluating the frost susceptibility of soils. This setup and testing procedure could be further used to test and prepare criteria for classifying the frost susceptibility of soils found in South Korea.

        Background : Considerable time and effort is required to develop new Panax ginseng varieties. Ginseng breeders have been developing techniques to shorten the breeding cycle to resolve this problem. In this study, we investigated the effects of adding GA3 and alternating temperature (AT, 2℃→ −2℃ → 2℃) on breaking bud dormancy in the varieties (Chungsun and Sunun) of ginseng root. Methods and Results : The GA3 soaking treatment and AT were applied to one year old roots, which greatly accelerated the emergence of new buds. In one year old roots, new buds emerged from the 4th day post transplanting and after breaking dormancy with GA3 and AT treatments. The emergence of new buds was completed within two weeks. The rate of bud emergence for Chungsun was 60% - 98% over 15 - 60 days after the AT and GA3 treatments. The emergence rate of Sunun was 46% - 92%. Normal growth of the ginseng seedling was observed in spite of the early breaking of bud dormancy by combined GA3 and AT treatments. Conclusions : GA3 and AT treatments shortened the dormancy period and facilitated the stable emergence of ginseng seedlings. However, some plants suffered deformities and early sprouting owing to the combined GA3 and AT treatments. Early sprouting was free from dormancy after leaf fall from the of aerial part of the plant.

        This study developed the Anti-Floating Method using PHC Pile adapting to the Underground Structures. This Method fixed the wedges on the P.C. strands of the PHC Pile to reinforce the adhesion strength in the concrete foundation. Pullout test result showed 2~3 times better than the present method, so the developed method can be used as the Anti-Floating Method of underground structures.

        엑스선의 에너지가 높으면 엑스선이 피사체(object)를 통과하여 영상의 대조도를 떨어뜨리고 엑스선의 에너지가 낮으면 영상의 대조도는 증가시키지만 엑스선이 피사체에 흡수되어 환자의 피폭선량을 증가시킨다. 그러므로 적정한 엑스선 에너지는 영상의 질과 피폭선량에 영향을 미치는 매우 중요한 요소이다. 본 논문에서는 새로운 양극물질을 사용하는 유방촬영 장치의 도입에 따라 방사선 선질이 다양해진 유방촬영장치의 영상품질관리와 환자선량관리을 위하여유방촬영장치의 타겟 물질에 따른 에너지스펙트럼을 시뮬레이션하고 팬텀 영상의 화질을 비교하였다.

        본 논문에서는 방사선학과 학부생을 대상으로 국제표준단위의 기본단위와 방사선 관련단위의 인지정도에 대하여 18문항으로 이루어진 설문지를 이용하여 조사하였다. 설문조사결과 약 44%의 학생들이 기본단위인 kV에 대하여 오답 을 표기하였으며, 약 28%의 학생들이 km에 대하여 오답을 표기하였다. 특히 단위와 숫자와의 관계에서는 약 57%의 학생들이 오답을 선택하였다. 접두어인 메가와 기가에 대해서는 각각 22%, 20%가 오답을 선택하였다. 방사선 관련단 위인 Sv 또한 약 30%의 학생이 오답을 선택하였다. 방사선 관련 국제단위에 대해서는 고학년일수록 인지도가 높았다. 단위에 대해 전문적인 교육을 받았는지의 여부에 대해서는 50%가 넘는 학생들이 교육을 받지 못하였다고 하였다. 이 와 같은 결과로부터 국제표준단위에 대한 교육의 필요성을 확인하였다.
