An electric steam boiler equipped with a condensate recovery system, which stores the condensate generated after using steam in steam washers, steam cookers, steam irons, and steam cleaners in a condensate tank and supplies compressed air to the condensate tank so that the condensate is recovered to the boiler by the pressure of the compressed air, was studied. In the results of this study, the heat energy balance between the quantity of the heat generated by the non-metallic surface heating element and the quantity of the heat absorbed by the water was good in a range of ±5%. In addition, the heat transfer rate increased in proportion to the electric power of the surface heating element heater, the waste heat energy was normally recovered by the recovery of the condensate of the steam boiler equipped with the high compression waste heat recovery system, and the recovery rate of the waste heat exhibited 23%.
The efficiencies of thermal power system using fossil fuel depend on heat exchangers which extract energy from the exhaust gas before it is expelled to the atmosphere. To increase heat transfer efficiency it is very important to maintain the surface of heat exchanger as clean condition. The accepted skill of cleaning of fouled surface of heat exchanger is soot blowing. A high pressure jet of air is forced through the flat surface of plate to remove the deposit of fouling. There is, however, little knowledge of the fundamental principles of how the jet behave on the surface and how the jet actually removes the deposit. Therefore, the study focuses on the measuring of cleaning area and cleaning dwell time after accumulating the simulated deposit on the flat surface. The deposit test rig was built for the study and simulated deposit material is used after measuring the physical property of the each material by shearing stress test. Much data was obtained for the analysis by the parameters change such as the different jet speed, different inner pressure and variable distance of the jet from the test rig surface. The experimental data was compared with the theoretical equation and most of the data matches well except some extreme cases.
Most of steam power plants in Korea are using the method of heating the feed water whenever the ambient temperature around the power plant area below 5°C to prevent freezing water flowing in the pipe in winter time. But this kind of heat supplying system is not useful to save energy. If we take the method that the temperature of the each pipe is controled by direct measure of temperature by attaching sensor on the outside surface of the feed water tubes, then we can expect that a plenty of energy can be saved. In this study, the computer simulation is used to compare the energy consumption loads of both systems. Energy saving rate is calculated for the location of Incheon area in winter season. Four convection heat transfer coefficients for the ambient air and three initial flowing water temperature inside the tube were used. The result shows that the temperature control system using sensor represents more than 95% of energy saving rate in Incheon area. Even in the severe January weather condition, the energy saving rate is almost 75% in two days basis and even 83% in one day basis.
Most of steam power plant in Korea are heating the feed water system to prevent freezing water flowing in the pipe in winter time. The heating system is operated whenever the ambient temperature around the power plant area below 5 degree Centigrade. But this kind of heat supplying system cause a lot of energy consuming. If we think about the method that the temperature of the each pipe is controled by attaching the temperature measuring sensor like RTD sensor and heat is supplied only when the outer surface temperature of the pipe is under 5 degree Centigrade, then we can save a plenty of energy. In this study, the computer program package for simulation is used to compare the energy consumption load of both systems. Energy saving rate is calculated for the location of Youngweol area using the data of weather station in winter season, especially the January' severe weather data is analyzed for comparison. Various convection heat transfer coefficients for the ambient air and the flowing water inside the pipe was used for the accurate calculation. And also the various initial flowing water temperature was used for the system. Steady state analysis is done previously to approximate the result before the simulation. The result shows that the temperature control system using RTD sensor represents the high energy saving effect which is more than 90% of energy saving rate. Even in the severe January weather condition, the energy saving rate is almost 60%.
Four different buildings having various wall construction are analyzed for the effect of wall mass on the thermal performance and inside building air and wall temperature transient and also for calculating the energy consumption load. This analytical study was motivated by the experimental work of Burch et al. An analytical solution of one-dimensional, linear, partial differential equations is obtained using the Laplace transform method, Bromwich and modified Bromwich contour method. A simple dynamic model using steady state analysis as simplified methods is developed and results of energy consumption loads are compared with results obtained using the analytical solution. Typical Meteorological Year data are processed to yield hourly average monthly values. This study is conducted using weather data from two different locations in Korea: Daegu having severe weather in summer and winter and Jeju having mild weather almost all year round. There is a significant wall mass effect on the thermal performance of a building in mild weather condition. Buildings of heavyweight construction with insulation show the highest comfort level in mild weather condition. A proportional controller provides the higher comfort level in comparison with buildings using on-off controller. The steady state analysis gives an accurate estimate of energy load for all types of construction. Finally, it appears that both mass and wall insulation are important factors in the thermal performance of buildings, but their relative merits should be decided in each building by a strict analysis of the building layout, weather conditions and site condition.
The snow melting system by electric heating wires which is adopted in this research is a part of road facilities to keep surface temperature of the road higher than freezing point of water for melting the snow accumulated on it. The electric heating wires are buried under paved road at a certain depth and operated automatically and manually. Design theory, amount of heating, and installation standard vary according to economic situation, weather condition, installation place and each country applying the system. A main purpose of this study is figuring out the appropriate range of required heat capacity and installation depth and pitch for solving snowdrifts and freezing problems with minimum electric power consumption. This study was performed under the ambient air temperature(-2℃, -5℃), the pitches of the electric heating wires(200 mm, 300 mm), heating value(250 W/m2, 300 W/m2, 350 W/m2).

Eight tubes with trapczodially shaped integral-fins having fin density from 748 to 1654fpm(fin per meter) and 10, 30 grooves are tested. A plain tube having the same diameter as the finned tubes is also used for comparison. R-11 condensates at saturation state of 32 ℃ on the outside tube surface coded by inside water flow. All of test data are taken at steady state. The heat transfer loop is used for testing singe long tubes and cooling is pumped from a storage tank through filters and folwmeters to the horizontal test section where it is heated by steam condensing on the outside of the tubes. The pressure drop across the test section is measured by menas pressure gauge and manometer. The results obtained in this study is as follows : 1. Based on inside diameter and nominal inside area, overall heat transfer coefficients of finned tube are enhanced up to 1.6 ~ 3.7 times that of a plain tube at a constant Reynolds number. 2. Friction factors are up to 1.6 ~ 2.1 times those of plain tubes. 3. The constant pumping power ratio for the low integral-fin tubes increase directly with the effective area to the nominal area ratio, and with the effective area diameter ratio. 4. A tube having a fin density of 1299fpm and 30 grooves has the best heat transfer performance.

The heat transfer performance of R - 11 vapor condensing on integral fin tubes has been studied using fin tubes having the fin density from 748 to 1654 fins per meter. Electric heater supplied heat energy to the boiler to generate R - 11 vapor over the range of 25-60W. Condensation rates of each tubes were tested under the condition of cooling water flow rate from 400l/h to 2500l/h. For the seven fin tubes tested, the best performance has been obtained with a tube having a fin density of 1417fpm and a fin height of 1.3mm. This tube has yielded a maximum value of the heat transfer coefficient of 16500W/m2K, at a vapor to wall temperature difference of 3K. Experimental results of integral fin tubes have been compared with available predictive models such as Beatty - Katz's analysis, Webb's analysis, Sukhatme's analysis and Rudy's empirical relation. The experimental results were shown to be in good agreement with that of the Sukhatme's analysis.
This work studies for boiling and condensation heat transfer performance of trapezoidally shaped integral-fin tubes having fin densities from 748fpm to 1654fpm. For comparison, tests are made using a plain tube having the same inside and outside diameter as that of the root of fins of finned tubes. Hahne's theoretical model and Webb's theoretical model are used to predict the R-11 boiling heat transfer coefficient and condensing heat transfer coefficient respectively for plain tube and all integral-fin tubes. Experiments are carried out using R-11 as working fluid. This work is limited to film-wise condensation and pool boiling on the outside surface of plain tube and 4 low integral-fin tubes. In case of condensation, the refrigerant condenses at saturation state of 32℃ on the outside tube surface cooled by coolant and in case of boiling. the refrigerant evaporates at saturation state of 1bar on the outside tube surface. The amount of non-con-densable gases in the test loop is reduced to a negligible value by repeated purging. The actual boiling and condensing processes occur on the outside tube surfaces. Hence the nature of this surface geometry affects the heat transfer performances of condenser and evaporator in refrigerating system. The condensation heat transfer coefficient of integral-fin tube is enhanced by both extended tube surface area and surface tension. The ratio of the condensation heat transfer coefficients of finned to plain tubes is greater than that of surface area of finned to plain tubes, while ratio of the boiling heat transfer coefficient of finned to plain tubes shows reverse result. As a result, low integral-fin tube can be used in condenser more effectively than used in evaporator.
혼합연료의 혼합성에서 보았을 때, #6 오일은 메타놀, 에타놀, 프로파놀등 어느 알콜과도 혼합하지 않고 급격한 분리 현상을 일으켰으며, #1 오일과 메타놀의 혼합에서도 알콜 함량이 매우 낮을 때를 제외하고는 거의 혼합되지 않았다. 에타놀과 프로파놀만이 #1 오일과 균일한 상태(homogeneous condition)로 혼합되었다. 인화점은 알콜 함량의 증가에 의해 급격히 하락하다가 알콜 함량 20% 이상에서 순수한 알콜과 차이를 보이지 않았으며, 점성은 에타놀 혼합의 경우는 혼합비의 증가에 따라 완만히 감소하였으나, 프로파놀의 경우는 증가하였다. 화염의 용적은 알콜 증가에 따라 감소하고 길이도 짧아졌으나 에타놀 혼합체의 경우에만 예외를 나타내었으며, 휘도도 알콜 증가에 따라 눈에 띄게 감소하였다.
여러 가지 다른 형태의 노즐을 공기 선회식 버너와 공기의 선회가 없는 버너(CB-125 Burner)에 장치하여 공기 분사식으로 오일을 분사하여 연소로에서 연소시켰다. 연소로는 길이 3m에 약 1m 상(3) 의 연소공간을 가졌으며 상부에는 열전대를 장치하고 하부에는 물이 흐르는 관을 설치하여 열효율을 계산할 수 있게 설계하였다. 연소로 연돌부에는 CO 하(2), CO, O 하(2) 가스 분석기를 사용하여 과잉공기량과 고온계로 배기가스 온도를 측정하도록 하였다. 모든 측정치는 연소곡선과 효율곡선에 의하여 얻어진 상수를 이용하여 계산한 연소로 성능방정식에 의하여 평가하였다. 실험치에 의해 계산한 벽면 열손실량과 열전달 공식에 의해 산출한 열손실량을 비교 분석하여 측정치의 정확도를 추정하고 과잉공기의 효과도 검토하였다. 그 결과 본 연구에서 사용된 두 종류의 버너와 여러 형태의 노즐이 오일 연소시 열효율 면에서 큰 차이를 보이지 않고 있음을 알았다.
