The myxoma(odontogenic myxoma, myxofibroma) of the jaws is a benign, usually slow-growing infiltrative tumor of connectice tissue. This article describes a case history of the treatment of recurred odontogenic myxofibroma in the maxilla and further discusses the appropriate management of such cases with reference to the literature review. A 55-year-old male patient presented with a gingival swelling in the right side of maxilla. He had history of second time recurred disease. Microscopically, a high cellularity fibrous tumor with fibroblastic cells was observed. Tumor cells were composed of stellate and spindle shaped fibroblasts. Islands of odontogenic epithelium were seen in the specimen. The final diagnosis was made with odontogenic myxofibroma in consideration of twice-time recurrences and histological characteristics. Because of the high likelihood of recurrence, an accurate differential diagnosis of pathology at the time of initial visit is very important in determining treatment options, and immunohistochemical tests may be helpful. Also close following up is required.(155 words)

Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) is a rare and aggressive variant of squamous cell carcinoma arising in various anatomical sites. This article describes a case history of BSCC of the floor of mouth with mandibular involvement, and further discusses the appropriate management of such case with reference to the literature review. A 52-year-old male patient was referred to our clinic from another university hospital. Segmental mandibulectomy with supraomohyoid neck dissection and mandible reconstruction with left fibular free flap under general anesthesia was performed, followed by radiotherapy. Histopathological examination on the tumor lesion revealed features of squamous cell carcinoma with comedo-type necrosis. A diagnosis of BSCC was given by the oral pathology specialist. Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) is a biphasic variant of SCC with both basaloid and squamous cell histology. A recent report showed that there is no significant difference in the prognosis. Due to the lack of accumulated research, close follow-up and continuous research are deemed necessary. Treatment that focuses on the stage of the tumor is appropriate. A periodic follow-up observation is also very important due to the occurrence of distant metastasis to the lungs.

Structural property in communities of aquatic insects and benthic macroinvertebrates could reflect the impact of environment on aquatic ecosystems. Benthic macroinvertebrates were collected at 18 different lakes across different levels of environmental impact in Korea. Community responses were analyzed by species abundance distribution (SAD). Rank-abundance (or relative abundance) curves were evaluated by classical SAD (Geometric series, Log-series, and Lognormal distribution) and niche apportionment models (dominance pre-emption, random assortment, random fraction, and dominance decay). Geometric series was more accepted in lakes among classical SAD models. Niche apportionment models were observed in a diverse manner across different level of ecological integrity in lakes. Dominance decay model and random fraction model were frequently fitted to the lakes with higher integrity, while dominance pre-emption and random assortment models tend to be presented in low to middle range in integrity.
