        This study was carried out to confirm the predatory and developmental features of N. stenoferus. We determine the host range of N. stenoferus. As a result, it was confirmed that Aphis gssypii, Myzus persicae, Planococcus citri, and Frankliniella occidentalis. N. stenoferus is thought to be able to feed on other micro pests. The test for a developmental period of N. stenoferus at 25℃ showed that the egg period was about 10 days. The nymphal period was about 18 days. Each nymphal period from 1st instar to 3rd instar nymphs was about 3 days. And the nymphal period of 4th and 5th were about 3.5 and 6 days, respectively. The female adult laid eggs in stem tissue or on leaves, and sometimes on the soaked cotton for water supply.

        The plant bug family Miridae is the largest group in Heteroptera, and is one of the most important insect groups economically in agriculture and in forestry, because it contains insect pests and predators. Among the subfamilies, Deraeocorinae represents the predatory group including some members which can be used as a biological control agent. This group comprises a total of six tribes in whole regions with their own unique morphology. However, the monophylies and relationships of tribes and genera within this subfamily are not still explored phylogenetically. In this talk, the first phylogenetic analyses of Deraeocorinae are presented based on total evidence data. Major questions including monophylies and relationships of each taxa on the basis of the results are discussed.

        Insects are directly and/or indirectly associated with plants, and interactions of them have long been studied in many countries. The suborders Heteroptera and Auchenorrhyncha, in Hemiptera which is the largest hemimetabolous insect order, are also closely associated with various plants as their hosts and habitats. In addition, some groups of Auchenorrhyncha are known as the vector to transmit pathogens such as phytoplasma and virus to the plant. However, there have been a few researches on interaction of insect groups and plants, although it is important to construct data and to understand their interaction for application in various fields. In this talk, the current research on interaction of two suborders and plants is presented. The importance and direction of future work are also discussed.

        The subfamily Mirinae is the most diverse group in Heteroptera, composed of at least 4,100 described species worldwide. This subfamily is also one of the most important groups in agriculture and in forestry, containing many well-known pests and predators which can be used as a biological control agent. However, the monophyly and generic relationships of each group within this subfamily have been unclear due to the lack of phylogenetic analysis. In this talk, the first comprehensive phylogenetic analyses of this subfamily are presented based on total evidence data. Major questions on the basis of the results are discussed, including the monophyly and relationships among the tribes and main genera, and the evolution of important characters in each group.

        Delphacidae is the most diverse group in the Superfamily Fulgoroidea (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Fulgoromorpha) with more than 2000 reported species worldwide. This group is commonly called planthoppers, because most members are grass-feeding species. Some members are known as vectors of economically important plant viruses, and damage to several crops in many countries. Stenocranus is one of the biggest groups in the Delphacidae. In Korea, there have been eight recorded species. In this presentation, we present taxonomic review of the Stenocranus with a new record in Korea. Morphological characters and key to Korean species are presented.

        The family Cicadellidae (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha) is one of the largest insect families, and contains approximately 22,000 described species. All members of this group are phytophagous, therefore, many of them are known as insect pests. Additionally, some species can transfer some pathogens such as viruses and phytoplasmas to plants as a vector. Macropsis (Cicadellidae: Macropsinae) is one of the largest groups in Cicadellidae, and has a world distribution. Among them, M. mendax and M. fuscula are famous for a vector associated with phytoplasma disease in Europe (Elm yellow, Rubus stunt disease). In Korea, three Macropsis species have been recorded to date. In this talk, genus Macropsis is reviewed from Korea. Morphological information such as diagnoses and descriptions of genitalia and the key to Macropsis are presented.

        Subfamily Asopinae (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) is known to have a unique behaviour among congeners of the family Pentatomidae. Their predatory behavior towards Lepidoptera and Coleoptera larvae has been numerously studied as some of the species have been used as biological control agents against insect pests. In this presentation a morphological taxonomical revision of the Korean Asopinae is made. New records and the first key from Korea are presented together with illustrations of all their habitus. Their possible role as Biological control agents in Korea is also discussed.

        The subfamily Mirinae, commonly called plant bug, represents the largest group in Heteroptera, and is also one of the most important groups economically, containing many insect pests as well as predators that can be used as biological control agent in agriculture. However, the monophyletic and phylogenetic relationships of each group within Mirinae are not understood to date, due to a lack of phylogenetic analysis. In this talk, the first comprehensive phylogenetic analyses of the subfamily Mirinae are presented, based on total-evidence data. Major questions raised based on results of this study are discussed: (i) Is each tribe in Mirinae a monophyletic?; (ii) Which tribes or genera are related or not related? (iii) Are these complexes monophyletic?; and (vi) Which characters are nonhomoplacious or homoplacious, and Which are supported in each group?

        The species of the genus Elasmostethus Fieber, 1860, belonging to the family Acanthosomatidae, occurring in the KoreanPeninsula are reviewed. Through this study, six species are recognized; the occurrence of four previously recorded species,including E. brevis Lindberg, 1934, E. humeralis Jakovlev, 1883, E. interstinctus (Linnaeus, 1758), and E. nubilus (Dallas,1851) are confirmed; two species, E. rotundus Yamamoto, 2003, and E. yunnanus Hsiao & Liu, 1977, are recorded forthe first time from the Korean Peninsula. The record of E. kansuensis Hsiao & Liu, 1977, is based on misidentificationof E. yunnanus. Therefore E. kansuensis is deleted from the Korean fauna. Photographs of habitus and genital segmentsof the two newly recorded species are included, and diagnoses and a key to the Korean species are provided.

        Miridae, commonly plant bugs, is the most diverse group in Heteroptera, with more than 11,000 species, and is widely distributed in the world. This group has a great attention by taxonomists, applied entomologists, and evolutionary biologists because of their great morphological diversity, high biodiversity as well as association with host plants. However, there have been a few phylogenetic studies within this family to date. In this talk, we present the first phylogenetic analyses of the largest tribe Mirini in the family Miridae based on nuclear (18S rRNA and 28S rRNA) and mitochondrial (COI and 16S rRNA) sequence data, based on the results, we discuss on the phylogenetic relationships and classifications within the tribe.

        The genus Apolygus China (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae), comprising 64 species in the world, is one of the most diverse groups in the subfamily Mirinae, including well-known insect pests such as A. spinolae and A. lucorum. A total of 56 species are known in the Palaearctic Region up to date, and most of them have been described from China (28 species), Japan (26 species) and Russia (13 species) respectively. In this talk, taxonomic study on the genus Apolygus from the Korean Peninsula is presented with three Apolygus sp. nov. and two newly recorded species. Photographs and illustrations of diagnostic characters and biological information such as host plants and distributions for each species, and a key to the Korean species are provided. Besides, COI barcoding as a diagnostic tool for this group is discussed emphasizing on the low genetic distances between some species.

        The genus Eurystylus Stål (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae: Mirinae) comprises to date 32 species in the world. This group is generally known as phytophagy, and some of the species are known as major insect pests of crops in various regions such as E. oldi Poppius, 1912, reducing grain mass and quality of sorghum crops by feeding and by ovipositing in Africa. Although these species are easily found and widely distributed, there are few taxonomic studies on this group in detail. In Korea, 2 species are known so far: E. coelestialium (Kirkaldy, 1902), E. luteus Hsiao, 1941. In this talk, the genus Eurystylus from the Korean Peninsula is reviewed for the first time. Biological information such as additional host plants of each species, and morphological characters of Eurystylus sp. nov. with other congeners from Korea are presented. Photographs of the Korean specimens, illustrations of the male genitalia, and diagnoses based on main characters with a key to the Korean species are also provided.

        The plant bug, Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter, 1895), is used as a biological control agent on various crops such as tomato and paprika. In this study, the egg and all the nymphal stages of N. tenuis are described and illustrated for the first time based on morphological characters. The main morphological characters of each instar are as follows: body shape, body size, development of wing pads, density of pubescent covered with abdomen, and colorations of antenna and legs, etc. Additionally, biological information such as feeding habits and mating are also provided with life cycle photographs.
