        Static balance of an articulated robot arm at various configurations requires a torque compensating for the gravitational torque of each joint due to the robot mass. Such compensation torque can be provided by a spring-based counterbalance mechanism. However, simple installation of a counterbalance mechanism at each pitch joint does not work because the gravitational torque at each joint is dependent on other joints. In this paper, a 6 DOF industrial robot arm based on the parallelogram for multi-DOF counterbalancing is proposed to cope with this problem. Two passive counterbalance mechanisms are applied to pitch joints, which reduces the required torque at each joint by compensating the gravitational torque. The performance of this mechanism is evaluated experimentally.

        The objective of this study was to evaluate survival rate and fish movement (migration) using a tagging approach of passive integrated transponder (PIT) in Juksan Weir, which was constructed as a four major river restoration projects. For this study, survival rates of each fish species and the mobility of fish individuals were analyzed during 2 weeks by the insertion of PIT tags to various fish species in the laboratory. According to tagging tests in the laboratory, the survival rate 37.5% (30 survivals of 80 individuals) after the insertion of PIT tags. The survival rate of Carassius auratus and Hemibarbus labeo was 100% and 80% after the insertion of the tags, respectively, whereas it was only 13.3% for Zacco platypus. In the field experiments of Juksan Weir, 6 species and 157 individuals from 8 species (563 individuals) were detected in the fixed automatic data-logging system, indicating a detection rate of 27.9% in the fishway of Juksan Weir. In the meantime, some species with no or low detection rates in the fixed automatic data-logging system were turn out to be stagnant-type species, which prefer stagnant or standing water to live.

        This article explores the nature of locality principle. In particular, we compare two recent conceptions of locality, which are Chomsky`s (2001a, 2001b) phase-based implementation of locality and Hiraiwa`s (2003) version of cyclic derivational locality. We present a new piece of empirical arguments against Hiraiwa (2003) from locality circumvention effects observed in passivization of applicative structures. We show that the locality circumvention phenomenon induced by wh-movement of a higher internal argument when a lower internal argument undergoes passivizing A-movement past it in low applicative structures cannot be explained under Hiraiwa`s cyclic locality computation, whereas it can be well accounted for under Chomsky`s phase-based evaluation view, which is a partly representational version of locality principle.

        컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해서 레이더 타겟들에 대한 레이더 유효면적(RCS)을 측정하고, 그들의 성능특성을 분석하였다. 또한, 상용레이더 리프렉터의 구조적 특징을 검토하였다. 그리고, 수동형 레이더 리프렉터의 최적 설계조건을 선택했다. 연구결과, X-band(λ=3.2cm에서 10λ 크기의 원형 평판으로 구성된 옥타헤데랄 형태의 레이더 리프렉터가 최적 성능을 나타냈다. 그러나, 새로 적용될 2000 SOLAS 규정을 수용하기 위해서는 X-band 와 S-band 모두에 적용하기 위해서 더 큰 크기의 원형평판이 필요하다.

        Indoor and outdoor nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations were measured and compared with measurements of personal exposures of 95 persons in Seoul, Korea and 57 persons in Brisbane, Australia, respectively. Time activity diary was used to determine the impact on NO2 exposure assessment and microenvironmental model to estimate the personal NO2 exposure. Most people both Seoul and Brisbane spent their times more than 90% of indoor and more than 50% in home, respectively. Personal NO2 exposures were significantly associated with indoor NO2 levels with Pearson coefficient of 0.70 (p<0.01) and outdoor NO2 levels with Pearson coefficient of 0.66 (p<0.01) in Seoul and of 0.51 (p<0.01) and of 0.33 (p<0.05) in Brisbane, respectively. Using microenvironmental model by time weighted average model, personal NO2 exposures were estimated with NO2 measurements in indoor home, indoor office and outdoor home. Estimated NO2 measurements were significantly correlated with measured personal exposures (r = 0.69, p<0.001) in Seoul and in Brisbane (r = 0.66, p<0.001), respectively. Difference between measured and estimated NO2 exposures by multiple regression analysis was explained that NO2 levels in near workplace and other outdoors in Seoul (p = 0.023), and in transportation in Brisbane (p = 0.019) affected the personal NO2 exposures.

        본 연구에서는 역학적으로 실질적이면서도 단순화된 방법으로 폭풍과 같은 악후시에 임의의 해안단면에서 발생하는 소상파의 수동학적 거동에 대한 예측모델을 개발하고자 한다. 실제 크기의 폭풍과 조건하에서 사구의 침식을 모의하기 위해 수행된 대형조파수조 실험에서 계측된 실험자료가 모델 개발을 위해서 활용된다. 일반적으로 본 모델은 해안종단방향에서의 소상파의 파고, 속도 및 주기의 변화를 예측할수 있음을 보인다. 정량적으로 보다 나은 소상파 변수들에 대한 예측은

        Young-Seok Choi. 2000. Possessor Ascension and Lexical Passive. Studies in Modern Grammar 21, 73-86. It has been traditionally assumed among Korean linguists that there is no fundamental distinction between the lexical (or morphological) passive and the syntactic passive constructions in Korean. This paper questions this assumption centering around a typical relational grammar analysis of a particular construction which seemingly involves both passive and possessor ascension. It will be argued that despite the intuitive plausibility of the `passive` analysis, syntactic and phonological evidence points to the conclusion that neither possessor ascension nor passive is involved in the construction under question.

        Pil-Hwan Lee. 2000. On the Origin of the Indirect Passive. Studies in Modern Grammar 19, 87-108. Despite some controversy, it is generally accepted that the indirect passive construction(IDC) was introduced into English roughly in the 15th century. Then two relevant questions arise here; `Why the IDC was impossible in OE?` and `How the IDC could be introduced in the 15th century?` It is argued that the indirect object of OE need not and so must not be preposed to the subject position to get a case in a passive sentence, since it is inherently case-marked. Thus the impersonal passive construction could be used instead of the IDC in OE and early ME. Contrary to Lightfoot (1979a, 1979b, 1991), however, I argue that even in OE syntactic passives and lexical passives both existed, so two kinds of passive participles are derived, i.e., a neutralized category having the feature [+V] only and a full adjective [+N, +V]. The emergency of the IDC is explained by the loss of the ability of English verbs to assign an inherent case. If the indirect object is not inherently case-marked, it must move to a position where it can get a case, i. e., to the subject position, under the assumption that the passive participle cannot assign a structural case, either. The effacement between dative and accusative or the fixing of word order had only subsidiary effects on the introduction of the IDC. The disappearance of formal distinctions between dative and accusative is just a triggering factor for the loss of inherent case, which is the reason for the introduction of the IDC.

        This article aims to account for the syntactic structure of a passive sentence within Principles and Parameters(=PP) theory and Minimalist theory of Chomsky. According to PP-theory, as the inflectional ending morpheme -en of passive verb absorbs the θ-role assigned to the subject NP of a passive sentence, the subject position at D-structrue is empty. The object NP of passive verb moves to the non-θ-position of the subject in S- structure because -en absorbs the objective Case assigned to the object NP. In Minimalist theory the syntactic property of a passive sentence is characterized by a single complement hypothesis, or the lexical structure representation of an unergative verb in shell structure and of a de-adjectival verb in inner structure. In the inner structure the complement of a head V is projected by the de-adjectival verb. This de-adjectival verb assigns a θ-role theme to the specifier NP of VP through predication relation. The NP of inner Spec position moves to the Spec position of AGRsP to be checked against tense and Case feature. The tense verb be selected as the head V of the shell structure also moves to the AGRs position of AGRsP to be checked against tense and agreement feature of functional heads. This morphological feature checking is operated through Spec-head or head-head agreement before Spell-out.
