This study aims to provide quite recent information on the organic agriculture in developed countries such as German, UK, Switzerland and USA and on the current activities of international research institutions of organic agriculture. The establishment and activity of ENOF in EU and ARNOA in Asia, IIRNOA in IFOAM was introduced shortly. Institute of Organic Agriculture in FAL/ Germany and FiBL in Switzerland, OMRI in USA, HDRA in UK and Schweisfurth Foundation in Germany were described. Also the educations in European universities for organic agriculture and the research activities and technical education system for organic farming were described. All of these informations could be useful for the further development of the strategy for Korean organic agriculture in education and research.

In spite of the importance of the farm area in Seoul, in providing fresh vegetables, a pleasant environment and a good quality of life for residents, rapid urbanization and industrialization have greatly reduced the farm area. The purpose of this study is to examine farmers' intentions and attitudes to provide supporting data for planning the strategy of urban agricultural development. All the collected data was analyzed using the contingency tables and the Chi-square test using the SAS computer statistical package. Based on analysis of the survey data, the leaseholders were found to be more satisfied with their job than the landowning farmers. Also, the small-scale farmers with green houses showed greater job satisfaction than the ordinary large-scale farmers. Farmers' views on the farming in Seoul were different depending on their status. Therefore, agricultural strategies in there should be considered their different attitudes.

This paper aims to provide a basic framework to make a regional plan for the environment󰠏friendly agriculture. To prepare the regional plan is mandated by the Environment󰠏friendly Agriculture Promotion Act of 1998. Here is proposed the input/output analysis framework, which includes the shifts of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and livestock manures. Basically, the discharged amount of polluted elements means the difference between the amount of the elements entered into the crop and livestock sectors and the amount of the elements absorbed or used by the crop and/or livestock. A few suggestions are offered for better regional environment󰠏friendly agricultural plan. The foremost important thing is to establish a data collection system. The "Green Accounting System" is suggested. It is also crucial to create a standard guideline or manual which provides detailed procedures to follow in making the plan by the local planners. More fundamentally, many experts on the regional planning will be demanded in the near future. Some compound model which links, for instance, the forestry, the livestock sector, and the crop sector, needs to be devised. Finally, it is argued here that more elaborated model will work as an integrated environmental improvement plan which embraces living environment as well as agricultural environment.

The number of organic farms are increasing in European countries during last 10 years. Most European governments are giving subsidies for organic farmers as well as converting organic farms from conventional farming method. The price level of most organic products are higher than price level of conventional products in general. However, there are certainly some market demand problems in organic products in some countries. Organic farms will be increased in 2005 and 2010 for 10~20% of the total agricultural area in some European countries. Government subsidy payment is also increasing. Therefore, many farmers are going to change into organic farming method from conventional farming. However, there will be certainly some market demand problems in future because of national economic growth problems. At the same time, the quality of soil can be improved and status of health of urban consumers should be improved by consuming organic products.

To address complex solutions to tackle the cost rise with the increasing of the prices of crude oil, and to lower warming gas discharge in agricultural sector in line with the Framework Convention on Climate Change, we need to not only develop the methods of simply reducing energy use ratio, but also effectively energize resources discharged in the course of agricultural production aimed at enabling repeated farming, and develop systems to reinvest such energy into agricultural production and apply them to actual farming. To that end, specifically, we need to reduce the energy cost in agricultural production, and produce and harness bio gas that makes it possible to stabilize the continued supply of energy. Thus, in this research, we seek to discuss energy use volume and warming gas discharge, and the characteristics of bio gas and its use methods alike, in agricultural sector, and thus present methods for environment-friendly and continual development in agriculture.

For the development of Eco village in Korean rural area, it was focussed to introduce the rural style which has been developed intensively in European countries such as Denmark, England and Germany. As the main concept for Eco village it was explained briefly in the paper on the renewable energy(wind power park, bio　mass and solar energy collector and heating system), eco　architecture, methane gas device, living machine(wastewater treatment facility) and organic farming. It was also discussed how important the basic standard and guidelines for organic agriculture to run Eco village environmentally soundly as a whole system and why it is so much essential for the system. For this reason major principles of international applicable standard for organically grown foods by FAO/WHO Codex alimentarius was also shortly described. In the paper the Eco village concept was considered as a suitable model for Environmental Agriculture Districts Project which Korean government is going to establish at rural area in the near future. In conclusion it was suggested that the positive participation of organic farmers, enthusiastic engagement of inhabitants and support strategy of government/NGO groups might play very important role for successful management of Eco village ecologically benign and economically sustainable after establishment.

It was supposed that CSA could be one of the best way to promote the movement of organic agriculture since there is little reliability on the organically grown food by consumer. In the replies submitted to a questionnaire to farmer and consumer, both group responded that the need of development of cultivation technique for organic farming and the permitted substances for organic farming and production. Both of them also replied that it is necessary to establish the lectures or division/department for organic agriculture in the agricultural education program of University.1) Their response to CSA was so much positive that they are willing to participate the CSA farm as a active CSA farmers or consumers. Based on the evaluation of questionnaire survey, it was suggested to do the utmost efforts that farmer preferentially practice an organic farming, and consumer consciously buy an organic food to protect an ecosystem and environment pollution.
