        This study aims to analyze the traditional embroidery in Korea, China and Japan based on Pierre Bourdieu’s cultural theory, habitus and field. We conducted literature and case studies examining the late Joseon Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, and Edo Period, respectively. Based on previous studies, we reviewed three fields: social systems, goods and economy, and environmental and regional. We also explored art, culture, and national tastes as habitus. We then examined each country’s embroidery practices through these lenses, and the practice of habitus is as follows. We determined that traditional Korean court embroidery in the late Joseon Dynasty was characterized as controlled elegance, while private embroidery reflected earnest simplicity. During the Qing Dynasty, traditional Chinese court embroidery depicted sumptuous power, while private embroidery portrayed harmonious splendor. Finally, traditional Japanese embroidery in the Edo period reflected symbolic natural beauty and exaggerated comic beauty. As a result, Korea, China, and Japan have had a relatively close geographical location and a similar climate environment zone, and since ancient times, many cultures have been exchanged with each other. However, it seems that the characteristics of traditional embroidery have developed slightly differently due to the practice of habitus, which was caused by of the conspiracy of field and habitus of the three countries. The significance of this study is expected to explain the relationship between the birth and extinction of costumes and embroidery by establishing a systematic and objective framework for aesthetics research.

        The purpose of this study is to design an instructional model based on CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning) theory for effective language learning. The study findings reveal the following three points. First, context-oriented foreign language education is possible, if we have well-edited authentic materials that match the level of the students, and implement the relevant materials as classroom activities that covered 4C (Content, Cognition, Communication, Culture) through sophisticated placement of content-language integration methods. Second, changes in evaluation methods can affect the studying style of learners. Since the process of output can only be actively utilized if the input is repeated, if we provide an desirable evaluation method so that the repetition process can focus on acquiring meaningful language information, this will help learners make more active use of the target language. Third, foreign language education could expand learners’ thinking skills. Content-language integrated learning is sufficient to help students to understand other cultures and compare/analyze the educational contents based on respect for cultural diversity. Through this all learning activities based on CLIL theory, language learners can also develop their critical thinking skills.

        The objective of this study is to establish the method of conservation for traditional Korean settlements, based on the field surveys on the representative traditional settlements in Korea and China. The method is approached from grasping the conservation mechanism in which non-physical aspects deeply influence physical ones. The study has analyzed the characteristics and problems in the current methods of conservation for the traditional settlements, through comparing conservation practices at the World Heritage-class settlements such as Yangdong, Hahoi, and Oeam villages in Korea and Xidi-cun, Hong-cun, and Dangjia-cun in China. As a consequence of the study, the conservation method for the traditional Korean settlements is established as follows; Firstly, the conservation targets are classified into 4 types in terms of the relations of elements; individual, correspondent, sequential, and network elements. Secondly, the conservation strategies include the structuralizations of targets, by means of sequencing and networking. Thirdly, the conservation programs are made in consideration of the sustenance, transformation, replacement, and extinction of traditional use patterns.

        The objective of this study is to develop naturalistic knit designs inspired by Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s works. For this purpose, we examined the present style of naturalism and history of naturalism though literature research, and then developed designs. The results are as follows: First, as scientific realism originated from a philosophical concept was adopted in literature and other genres, its meanings have been altered and comprehensively expanded according to the genres of which the term is being used. Naturalism of the modern times carries strong message of ecology and environmental protection. Second, the modern naturalism in fashion is manifested in expressing the image of nature and plasticity, instead of a mere use of the natural materials. As the aspects of ecology become more significant, elements of retro, recycle, or grunge are additionally integrated in fashion. Third, Naturalism expressed in knitwear is similar with that of other clothing in terms of color and textile, however, silhouette in knitwear is unique in its general naturalness and flowing effects. Embroidery, knitting of Jacquard and Intarsia, or crochet is used to express forms of objects from nature. Visual effects regardless of the contents of yarn, and pattern effects after knitting by using yarn, have influences on the material. Forth, the eight knit designs in expressing naturalism presented in this study took a motif from the works of Yann Arthus-Bertrand. They were created by rendering rhythm of the landscape with emphasis on brown color. Contour and surface touch were expressed through yarn and the structure of knit.

        Although fluency is included as one of main aspects to teach and assess in the course of "English Writing" for special-purposed high schools in Korea, any concrete and detailed idea has not been suggested in the guidelines to the course on how this concept could be understood and dealt with both in teaching and testing. This study, therefore, aims at exploring the concept of fluency in writing through both reviewing literature on fluency which is mainly with regard to speaking skills and investigating characteristics in terms of fluency which are observed from 390 writing samples written by 195 Korean students at a foreign language high school. As a result of inductive and qualitative analysis of the data, specific features were observed with regard to quantity, coherence, cohesion and language level. It is suggested that these features could be considered when we trying to understand fluency in depth and establish a rating scheme for it in the context of high school students" writing assessment.

        본 연구는 생물과 무생물 구분에 대한 유아교사의 바탕개념과 오개념을 알아보고자 하였다. 유아교사 51명을 대상으로 생물과 무생물로 구성된 22장의 카드 과제로 면담을 실시하였다. 이 연구의 결과에 따르면, 먼저 유아교사는 생물을 무생물 보다 더 정확하게 구분하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 생물의 경우 동물을 식물 보다 더 정확하게 구분하였으며, 무생물의 경우 인공물을 자연물 보다 더 정확하게 구분하였다. 둘째, 유아교사의 생물에 대한 바탕개념은 유목적적 움직임, 영양분을 통한 성장, 호흡, 종족번식, 죽음 등 다섯 가지로 나타났다. 유아교사의 무생물에 대한 바탕개념은 여러 가지 물체 및 물질의 조합에 의한 형태변화, 움직이려면 도움이 필요하다는 두 가지로 나타났다. 셋째, 유아교사의 생물에 대한 오개념은 스스로 움직이지 못하고, 호흡하는 것이 보이지 않으며 배아 즉 알과 열매로 되어 있다는 세 가지로 나타났다. 무생물에 대한 오개념은 자연발생적인 것, 물로 구성되어 있으며 변화나 순환을 통한 형태변화가 이루어지는 세 가지로 나타났다. 이 연구를 통해 밝혀진 유아교사의 생물과 무생물에 대한 바탕개념과 오개념은 체계적인 유아 교사교육을 위한 프로그램의 개발에 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
