        We compared the fruit set and the quality of the Asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai cv. Niitaka) among flowers pollinated by insect pollinators such as the honeybee(Apis mellifera) and bumblebee(Bombus terrestris) and pollinated artificial. The hand pollination rate was 1.3 times higher than bumblebee and 1.9 times higher than the honeybee pollination rate. Moreover, the artificially pollinated flowers produced fruit that was 5 to 10% higher in weight, 2 to 3% larger in size, and had a higher fruit shape index(L/D) than pollinated by the insect pollinators. On economic analysis, net profit from insect pollinator was 93.5 to 97.1% of net profit from hand pollination. Therefore, artificial pollination is more efficient than insect pollination in 'Niitaka' pear. However, regarding fruit quality and net profit, these results suggest that bee pollinator can be an good alternative to hand pollination in pear cv. Niitaka.

        The present study was carried out to deduce optimum harvesting time based on fruit traits that were examined with fruits hanging the higher part (HP, higher than or equal to 2m height from the ground) and lower part (LP, lower than or equal to 1.5m height from the ground) on ‘Niitaka’ tree. The fruits of HP compared to of LP tended to be heavy and showed significantly higher soluble solid contents (SSC), hardness and gravity at each of the harvest time. On the basis f the discrepancies of the fruit traits between HP and LP, harvest time for the fruits of LP are acquired to be delayed for raising fruit weight and SSC. Due to the substantial probability of flesh pithiness based on the dramatic decrease of fruit gravity, it is necessary that the fruits of LP distributed just after harvesting or stored for short-term period.

        본 연구에서는 동양배 ‘진황’의 1-MCP처리 후 유통온도에 따른 과실의 품질 변화를 관찰하였다. 과실의 감모율의 경우 저장온도가 낮을수록 적었으며 1-MCP처리구가 무처리구 보다 유의하게 적은 감모를 보였다. 수확 후 1-MCP처리는 과육경도에서 유통온도(18, 25 및 30oC)와 관계없이 20N이상으로 무처리구보다 높게 유지 되었다. 과피색의 변화는 모든 처리구에서 저장기간이 길어질수록 어두워졌으며, a*값은 18 및 25oC에서는 처리구간 차이를 보이지 않았지만, 30oC에서는 1-MCP처리구가 유의하게 적은 변화를 보였다. 과실의 생리장해에서 과심갈변, 분질과 발생은 저장온도가 낮을수록 발생이 적었으며, 1-MCP 처리구가 무처리구 보다 낮은 발생을 보였다. ‘진황’과실에서 1-MCP처리후 유통온도에 따른 과실의 품위유지 기간은 18 및 25oC에서는 28일 내외이며, 30oC에서는 21일 내외로 1-MCP 처리로 유통 기간을 약 7일 이상의 품위유지에 효과를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 특히 고온의 시장조건에서는 조생종 ‘진황’ 과실에 1-MCP처리가 품위유지에 효과적인 것으로 사료 된다.

        We investigated pollination and foraging activities of honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) and bumblebee (Bombus terrestris L.) during flowering season of the asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia N.) under different weather conditions. There was no significant statistical difference about the pollination activities of two species. However, the pollination activities of bumblebee were more active than those of honeybee under low temperature and rainfall period. The activities of honeybee and bumblebee were more influenced by temperature than other factors (i.e. illumination and wind velocity). Honeybee was more sensitive to temperature and illumination than bumblebee. At low temperatures (<20℃) on cloudy days (<30,000 lux) with a certain wind velocity (>4.0 m/s), the pollination activity of the honeybee was lower twice than that of bumblebee.

        Pear is a representative fruit crop of high economic value in Taiwan. The pear varieties, cultivated in Taiwan are of Asian-type. The total amount of planted pears declined to 5,575 ha, and the production volume was 134,549 tons in Taiwan. The major pear cultivation areas were located Taichung (3,649 ha) these a amount to 65% of the total pear cultivation areas There are three production systems; the first system could be broadly categorized into Japanese pears, whose cultivars grown in high-altitude areas, and the second and third systems were used lower chilling requirement pear and top-grafted pear production method in the low-altitude area. Top graft pear, the main pear production system of Taiwan, is a unique pear production system in the world. Pear fruits were produced by grafting the scions, whose flower buds differentiations were completed in the high-altitude area of Taiwan, Japan or China. These flower buds were grafted on the water sprout of ‘Hengshan’ in the low-altitude areas from January to February. In other to use top-graft, the large amount of scion imports from Japan and china. Top-grafting pears could be harvested from early May, and their harvesting periods were from June to July. The Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute and the Taichung District Agricultural Improvement Station have developed low-chilling requirement Varieties that can be grown in low-altitude areas; Such as ‘Tainung No. 1, No. 2, No. 3’, ‘Taichung No. 1, No. 2, No. 3’. In high-altitude areas, the main variety of cultivated is ‘Shinseiki’, and Low-altitude areas, the main varieties cultivated are ‘Housi’ and ‘shinko’.

        이 연구는 2012년과 2013년 동절기에 아시아 배 품종인 신고와 추황배를 공시하여 생리화학적인 상태의 변화를 평가하기 위해 실시하였다. 추황배는 줄기에서 높은 수분부족과 수분함량을 보여 신고와 구별되었다. 겨울동안 줄기와 눈에서 화학성분이 다양하게 변화하였으며, 미네랄 성분은 줄기보다 눈에서 높게 나타났다. 두 품종 모두 겨울동안 줄기에서 포도당, 과당, 갈락토오스가 증가하였기 때문에 기관 발달과정에서의 식물의 생장반응과 온도의 변화에 따른 신진대사의 수준이 일정하게 유지되었다. 신진대사의 모든 과정은 상호 연관되며 그들 사이에 접합이 방해하는 이유는 시스템 전체의 안정성을 저하시키는 대사산물을 축적하기 때문으로 판단된다.
