        PURPOSES : A model for minimizing cutting loss and determining the optimum layout of blocks in pavements was developed in this study. METHODS : Based on literature review, a model which included constraints such as the amount, volume, overlap, and pattern, was developed to minimize the cutting loss in an irregular pavement shape. The Stach bond, stretcher bond, and herringbone patterns were used in this model. The harmony search and particle swarm algorithms were then used to solve this model. RESULTS : Based on the results of the model and algorithms, the harmony search algorithm yielded better results because of its fast computation time. Moreover, compared to the sample pavement area, it reduced the cutting loss by 20.91%. CONCLUSIONS : The model and algorithms successfully optimized the layout of the pavement and they have potential applications in industries, such as tiling, panels, and textiles.

        In this study, a welding heat source model was presented and verified during fiber laser welding. The multi-layered heat source model is a model that can cover most of existing studies and can be defined with a simple formula. It consists of a total of 12 parameters, and an optimization algorithm was used to find them. As optimization algorithms, adaptive simulated annealing, multi island genetic algorithm, and Hooke-Jeeves technique were applied for comparative analysis. The parameters were found by comparing the temperature distribution when the STS304L was bead on plate welding and the temperature distribution derived through finite element analysis, and all three models were able to derive a model with similar trends. However, there was a deviation between parameters, which was attributed to the many variables. It is expected that a more clear welding heat source model can be derived in subsequent studies by giving a guide to the relational expression and range between variables and increasing the temperature measurement point, which is the target value.

        This study compares optimization algorithms for efficient estimations of ship's hydrodynamic coefficients. Two constrained algorithms, the interior point and the sequential quadratic programming, are compared for the estimation. Mathematical optimization is designed to get optimal hydrodynamic coefficients for modelling a ship, and benchmark data are collected from sea trials of a training ship. A calibration for environmental influence and a sensitivity analysis for efficiency are carried out prior to implementing the optimization. The optimization is composed of three steps considering correlation between coefficients and manoeuvre characteristics. Manoeuvre characteristics of simulation results for both sets of optimized coefficients are close to each other, and they are also fit to the benchmark data. However, this similarity interferes with the comparison, and it is supposed that optimization conditions, such as designed variables and constraints, are not sufficient to compare them strictly. An enhanced optimization with additional sea trial measurement data should be carried out in future studies.

        Efficient and sustainable sea transport is a key aspect to ensure cost competitive ship operation. The constant need to increase economic feasibility, energy efficiency and safety while complying with emission regulations motivates further developments and improvements in voyage optimization and weather routing systems. These systems optimize a voyage based on meteorological and oceanographic information taking into account ship characteristics and routing information. The quality of the provided route not only depends on the quality of this data, but also on the modeling of the optimization problem and the algorithm chosen to solve it. Due to the wide range of mathematical approaches and consequently challenges in decision making, this paper aims to give a comprehensive and comparative overview of the existing state-of-the-art methods by a thorough literature review and elaboration of different modeling approaches, optimization algorithms, and their application in weather routing systems. The research shows that approaches range from modeling the weather routing problem as a constrained graph problem, a constrained nonlinear optimization problem or as combination of both. Based on the formulation of the ship weather routing optimization problem different methods are used to solve it ranging from Dijkstra’s algorithm, dynamic programing and optimal control methods to isochrone methods or iterative approaches for solving nonlinear optimization problems. However, it can be concluded that the determination whether an approach is suitable, produces sufficient results and may be recommended, strongly depends on the specific requirements concerning optimization objectives, control variables and constraints as well as the implementation.

        This paper investigated the optimum design of truss structures based on Genetic Algorithms (GA's). With GA's characteristic of running side by side, the overall optimization and feasible operation, the optimum design model of truss structures was established. Elite models were used to assure that the best units of the previous generation had access to the evolution of current generation. Using of non-uniformity mutation brought the obvious mutation at earlier stage and stable mutation in the later stage; this benefited the convergence of units to the best result. In addition, to avoid GA's drawback of converging to local optimization easily, by the limit value of each variable was changed respectively and the genetic operation was performed two times, so the program could work more efficiently and obtained more precise results. Finally, by simulating evolution process of nature biology of a kind self-organize, self-organize, artificial intelligence, this paper established continuous structural optimization model for ten bars cantilever truss, and obtained satisfactory result of optimum design. This paper further explained that structural optimization is practicable with GA's, and provided the theoretic basis for the GA's optimum design of structural engineering.

        최근 구조최적화분야에서 활발하게 사용되고 있는 유전알고리즘은 해집단을 운용하기 때문에, 많은 반복수와 적응도 평가를 위하여 해집단의 수에 해당하는 구조해석을 필요로 하며, 또한 교배율과 돌연변이율 등의 파라미터에 따라 알고리즘의 성능이 변화하므로 문제에, 따라 적합한 파라미터 설정이 필요한 근본적인 단점을 지니고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존 유전알고리즘의 단점을 극복할 수 있는 복합유전알고리즘을 마이크로유전알고리즘과 단순유전알고리즘을 결합한 형식으로 그리고, 최적화에 요구되는 연산을 다수의 개인용 컴퓨터에서 동시에 분산하여 수행할 수 있는 고성능 분산 복합유전알고리즘으로 개발하였다. 개발된 알고리즘은 철골 가새골조 구조물의 최소중량설계에 적용하여 그 성능을 평가하였다.

        The objective of this study is the development of a size and shape discrete optimum design algorithms, which is based on the genetic algorithms and the fuzzy theory. This algorithms can perform both size and shape optimum designs of plane and space trusses. The developed fuzzy shape-GAs (FS-GAs) was implemented in a computer program. For the optimum design, the objective function is the weight of structures and the constraints are limits on loads and serviceability. This study solves the problem by introducing the FS-GAs operators into the genetic.

        다분야 통합 시스템의 설계문제는 다량의 설계변수와 구속조건으로 구성되며 다수의 공학적 현상으로 연관되어 있다. 다분야 통합 최적설계 문제를 효과적으로 다루기 위해서는 다양한 해석분야의 공학적 설계원리를 동시에 고려하여 균형 있고 유기적인 방법으로 최적의 설계를 결정하는 체계적인 설계자동화기술이 요구된다. 다분야 통합 설계문제를 위한 효율적인 설계방법론으로 분리기반 최적화 기법이 적용되는데 이 방법은 한 단위의 대규모 설계문제를 여러 개의 하부시스템으로 분리하여 독립적으로 최적화를 수행하고 각 하부 시스템으로부터의 설계해 사이의 중재 및 통합화를 거쳐 최종적으로 수렴된 최적설계를 찾는 방법이다. 본 논문에서는 분리기반 최적화기법을 다분야 통합최적 설계문제에 적용하는데 필요한 시스템분리기법을 유전알고리즘 및 다층 역전 파 신경회로망을 이용하여 정립하였다. 시스템분리기법을 검증하기 위해 최근 미국 Boeing사에서 개발중인 고속 민간항공기인 HSCT의 시뮬레이션기반 설계문제를 이용하였다. 대규모 설계시스템의 분리결과는 전체 설계문제의 특성을 파악하기 위한 자료로 활용되며 향후, 분리기반 최적화과정에서 최종적으로 통합된 최적설계를 탐색하는데 필요한 기반구조를 제공한다.

        본 연구의 목적은 다목적 유전자 알고리즘을 이용하여 우수유출 저류지를 소유역에 분담하여 설치 계획하는데있다. 이를 위해 우수유출 저류지의 위치 및 규모를 최적화하기 위한 모형을 개발하였다. 이 모형은 크게 2가지로 나뉘어 지는데, 유역유출모형과 최적해를 구하기 위하여 도입한 다목적 유전자 알고리즘(MOGAs)이다. 이러한 최적화 모형을 모의하기 위하여 목적함수는 첨두유출량과 저류지 저류용량의 함수로 설정하고, 제한조건은 기본적으로 구조적 제한과 저류용량
