        In this study, vertical extension type TMD(VE-TMD) whose vertically extended stories behave like a tuned mass damper, with Lead-Rubber Bearing(LRB) between the top of existing structures and the bottom of the extended stories was proposed. A shaking table tests for a 5-story reinforced concrete model, which is of 2.2 Hz natural frequency. A vertical extended model consisted of a steel frame, with two base isolators between the top of the RC model and the bottom of the extended stories. Those base isolators' lateral stiffness was equal to 31.392 kN/m which was calculated with the fundamental period plus 0.2 tonf, weight of a single story of the model. The test for the specimen was shaking table test excited by a harmonic loads for the fundamental period of the structure. The test results indicated that the VE-TMD improved seismic performance by 40 % in displacement responses for all of frequency-domain.

        The 'Housing Act (‘14.04), which permits the remodeling of old apartment buildings, has been implemented. In particular, vertical remodeling is generally implemented by adding 2~3 floors above the top floor of existing apartments. Technically, it is necessary to reinforce the existing pile due to the increase of vertical, horizontal, seismic load, etc. However, the existing piles are loaded simultaneously and so each pile was constructed at limited base space for application of reinforcement method. The bearing capacity of existing piles decreases due to vertical expansion so the bearing capacity of the piles must be confirmed by the indirect method(laboratory test etc.) in the first safety diagnosis and by the direct method(field test etc.) in the second safety diagnosis.

        In this study, existing wall-type apartment in 1990s is evaluated by KBC2009. Based on structural calculation, seismic performance evaluation is performed with dynamic nonlinear analysis. After that, this building is extended up to three stories in vertical direction. In this study, the seismic performance evaluation results of wall-type apartment can be used in performance-based design of the vertical extension remodeling.

        This paper introduce a reinforcement method for vertical extension of a building using a rahmen frame structural system. This approach has to be carried out by considering the structural safety due to the additional weights being exerted to the pre-existing building. The connections to fasten both the rahmen frames and original building were designed with the axial loads and moments acting on the rahmen frame structural system, that is extended vertically. This system reduces the structure self-weight and ensures non-additional of reinforcement.

        In this paper, construction staged-analysis is introduced to understand how the additional loads transfer to existing and added piles. Added piles are not able to take on the existing load due to mechanical problem.

        In this study, we have proposed a modular construction method can lower the reinforcement cost of the building, to shorten the construction period. We have developed a Mock-up, it is intended to use as basic data to the activation of the vertical extension of future reform.
