본 연구는 기업의 국제화 수준이 기업 간 제휴 파트너로서의 매력도를 증가시키는지 검증해 보고자 하였다. 이 와 더불어 기술적 역량과 기업집단 소속여부가 국제화 수준과 기업 간 제휴형성 사이의 관계를 강화시키는지도 함께 검증하였다. 가설의 검증을 위해 1997년 기준 코스닥 등록기업 리스트를 토대로 1997년부터 2014년까지 국내 242개 제조업체에서 수집한 3,546개의 쌍체 표본 자료(dyadic data)를 구성하였다. 음이항 회귀분석 (negative binominal regression)을 사용한 실증분석 결과, 국제화 수준이 기업간 제휴형성에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것이라는 본 논문의 가설이 지지된다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 한편, 기술적 역량과 기업집단 소속여부는 기업 간의 제휴형성에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것이 확인되었으나 국제화 수준과 기업 간 제휴형성 사이에서의 조절효과는 나타나지 않았다. 본 논문의 결과에 따르면, 제휴 파트너 선택 과정에서 국제화 수준이라는 지표는 제휴 파트너 기업의 내부 역량에 대한 긍정적인 신호로 작용하여 조직 장(organizational field) 내에서의 잠재 적 제휴 파트너로서의 정당성을 획득하는 수단이 될 수도 있음을 시사한다. 본 논문은 국제화 수준이라는 지표가 오디언스(audience)로 하여금 해당 조직의 내부역량에 대한 긍정적 기대효과를 유발할 수도 있음을, 실제 기업 간의 전략적 제휴라는 상황적 맥락을 바탕으로 이론화하고 이를 실증분석 하였다는데 의의가 있다.
With the expanding availability of market data, firms are increasingly reliant on analytical capabilities as a source of competitive advantage, a trend that is reflected in the rising budgets allocated to data and analytics (The CMO Survey, 2022). Analytical capabilities denote firms' capacity to define and extract insights from the available data and link these insights to decision-making (e.g., Cao et al., 2019; Penttinen & Frösén, 2022). Despite the growing influence of the capability perspective on marketing analytics, which is rooted in the resource-based view (Barney, 1991), the understanding of analytical capabilities as a source of performance disparities remains in its early stages. In particular, although analytical capabilities of firms constitute (1) capabilities internal to the firm, as well as (2) those shared within the firm’s broader business network, the vast majority of previous research focuses on the development and use of internal analytical capabilities only (Gupta & George, 2016; Wedel & Kannan, 2016). As a result, there remains limited understanding regarding shared analytical capabilities that assume close collaboration between business partners, such as suppliers, buyers, and third parties, in developing and sharing data and insights (Alinaghian & Razmdoost, 2018; Penttinen & Frösén, 2022) and extend beyond the boundaries of individual firms.
This research paper examines the role of adaptive capability and absorptive capability in the development of digital marketing capability that, in turn, influences the firm performance. The results reveal that both adaptive and absorptive capabilities have a positive influence on digital marketing capability that positively contributes to customer relationship, new product and financial performance of the firm. The adoption of new digital technologies such as smart products, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, and machine learning will change markets, competitive landscapes, business models and consumer behaviors, new thinking about marketing capabilities becoming critical to succeed in today complex environment (Day, 2011; Kannan & Li, 2017). To remain competitive and survive, organizations have to develop new marketing capabilities to harness the potential of these technologies in supporting marketing functions and processes (Trainor, Rapp, Beitelspacher & Schillewaert, 2011). Despite the rapid diffusion of digital technologies in business practice, only few previous researches was focused on theoretical and empirical aspects of marketing capabilities needed in digital-empowered environment. To fill this knowledge gap, we develop the digital marketing capability construct, and explore its antecedents and consequences on performance.
The benefits of being customer-oriented for building firm innovativeness remain ambiguous among academics, with some scholars claiming a customer-orientation fosters organizational innovation competencies, whereas some others argue that it merely inhibits innovation processes. A review of research on the effect of customer orientation on innovation activities are inconclusive, with some studies supporting a positive relationship, while others reporting mixed results. With many firms investing in activities to get to know their customers and in innovation activities, managers need an understanding of the role of customer-oriented behaviors on firm innovation practices.
This paper examines the determinates of subsidiary product innovation in the Chinese market based on a sample 680 EU subsidiaries over the period of 1998-2009. To date, the literature on EU subsidiaries has failed to consider product innovation in the marketing strategy interplay in approaching new markets overseas. Building on Resource Based view linked with Chinese institutional factors, it empirically examines the inferential product innovation strategy in an EU-China context. By applying the econometric analyses techniques to investigate innovation determinants and to test the presence of agglomeration effect of past innovation activities. The results show EU MNC subsidiaries’ innovation is influenced by both host country institutions and firm capabilities, rendering support to the theory. The analysis indicates EU subsidiaries’ innovation is positively related to firm advertisement, labour training and host market size. R&D expenditure has a negative bearing on innovation. However, openness has a negative and significant effect on product innovation in China. The findings have important implications for theory, practitioners and policy-making. This study contributes to the literature on the evolution of MNCs by exploring determinants of developed foreign subsidiaries’ innovation activities in emerging markets.
We integrate institutional theory and the resource-based view of capability to examine the interplay of institutional environments and firm-specific capabilities on value-creating synergy by emerging market firms (EMFs). We argue that EMFs expand into countries with better-developed institutions as a means to overcome poor institutions at home. EMFs that develop strong absorptive capacity and knowledge transfer capability are better able to benefit from a portfolio of complementary sources of knowledge across multiple markets. We analyze data on a sample of manufacturing firms’ international expansion to demonstrate that expansion into a host country with a better-developed institutional environment promotes innovation success. This effect was found to be stronger for firms with strong absorptive capacity and well-developed knowledge transfer capability.
본 연구는 각각의 혁신역량 요소가 기업의 혁신방법 선택에 미치는 영향을 EU 국가와 비교함으로써 국내 제조기업의 기술수준을 파악하고, 최신 자료를 통해 그 변화를 살 펴 혁신역량 제고를 위한 정책적 시사점을 도출하고자 한다. 이를 위해 유사한 데이터와 모 형으로 분석하였으며 그 결과, 2005년 한국은 대략 EU의 부진국가와 중간국가 사이에 위치 하며, 2014년에는 혁신비용지출에 따른 연구개발비 비중의 증가, 내부혁신활동 수행, 고기술 업종의 연구개발 선택 등 혁신역량이 일부 개선된 모습을 보였다. 따라서 혁신역량제고를 위 해서는 기업의 혁신비용지출에 대한 지원과 고기술기업, 특허출원 및 산학연 협력을 실시하 는 기업을 위한 제도적 보완이 필요할 것으로 보인다.

본 연구에서는 온라인게임산업의 선도기업인 "엔씨소프트"의 혁신역량을 혁신경로 창출능력의 관점에서 핵심기술 관리역량 6개 지표, 연계/통합 역량 4개 지표, 기술혁신 전략수립/정책대응 역량 3개 지표를 토대로 분석하였다. 각 부분별 이 기업의 대표적 강점으로는 핵심기술관리의 측면에서 글로벌 선도게임개발에 대한 지속적인 R&D투자, 연계/통합전략의 측면에서 해외 R&D인력과 스튜디오에 대한 적극적 투자와 M&A전략, 그리고 기술전략/정책 부문에서 글로벌 기술리더십의 확보를 들 수 있었다. 반면 보완이 필요한 부분으로 핵심기술관리 측면에서 개방형/가치창출형 지식재산관리전략으로 전환과 중장기적인 원천기술개발에 대한 투자 증대, 연계/통합전략 측면에서 공공부문 R&D기관과의 상생적 보완/협력방안 마련 및 국내와 해외 스튜디오 간 신기술 지식 교류 활성화 전략 수립의 필요 그리고 기술전략/정책 부문에서 새로운 사회적 가치를 제공하는 기능성 게임에 대한 투자 증대를 꼽을 수 있었다. 이와 같은 선도기업의 분석결과는 업계 전반의 발전전략 수립에도 시사점을 지닌다고 할 수 있다.
