Subgenus Bothynoptera Schaum, 1863 of the genus Parena is mainly found in Oriental region. Despite this widespread distribution, species of the subgenus Bothynoptera are poorly known in Korea. While a total of 14 species have been recorded worldwide, only 3 species have been recorded in Korea. In this study, as a revisional work of Korean known species, a pictorial key and photographs of habitus and male genitalia for each species are provided, with a newly recorded species in Korea.

Nialoe Tanaka, 1958 is a subgenus of the ground beetle genus Pterostichus (Coleoptera: Carabidae), endemic to East Asia. In a wide sense of Nialoe, it consists of more than 200 species, which has reduced hindwing and possibly diversified by geographical isolation due to poor dispersal ability. To understand this vast group, phylogenetic studies have been conducted, showing that Nialoe s. lat. comprises of five subgenera: Nialoe s. str., Sphodroferonia, Koreonialoe, and two unnamed subgenera. However, there is little knowledge regarding their origin and dispersal. In this study, we examine phylogenetic relationships among the five subgenera of Nialoe s. lat. based on 28S rRNA, wingless, COI, and 16S rRNA. The molecular clock and S-DIVA analyses are devised to investigate the biogeographical history of the group in East Asia. This study may give insight into the biogeographical dispersal and diversification of East Asian carabids.

During a survey of free-living marine nematodes of Korea, two new marine desmoscolecid nematodes belonging to subgenus Quadricoma Filipjev, 1922 were discovered. Tricoma (Q.) jejuensis sp. nov. and T. (Q.) unipapillata sp. nov. are described based on specimens obtained from washings of coarse sediments from eastern and southern coasts of Korea. Tricoma (Q.) jejuensis sp. nov. is characterized by having 33 quadricomoid body rings and inversion at main ring 23, pentagonal head with truncated anterior end, a pair of ocelli situated at main ring 6, somatic setae comprising of 8 pairs of subdorsal setae and 12 pairs of subventral setae, and relatively short spicules (42-46 μm long). Tricoma (Q.) unipapillata sp. nov. is characterized by 44 quadricomoid body rings and inversion at main ring 32, somatic setae comprising of 7 pairs of subdorsal setae and 10 pairs of subventral setae, globular head truncated anterior end, relatively short and stumpy cephalic setae with cuticular flange, one single naked ventral median genital papillae situated on main ring 20, and spicules with a proximally marked capitulum. Detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations of these two new species are provided in this study.

The genus Camponotus Mayr, 1861 distributes all over the world, even ranging from the African desserts to the Antarctic islands. Number of species in this genus is the largest: 1,488 taxa (species and subspecies) accounting for 10% ant species. Despite of it, number of available complete mitochondrial genomes was only one, Camponotus atrox (subgenus Camponotus). To decipher characteristics of mitochondrial genome of this genus, we completed mitochondrial genomes of Camponotus nipponensis Santschi, 1937, belonging to subgenera Myrmentoma using Illumina HiSeqX. The total length of mitochondrial genome of C. nipponensis is 15,532bp with 79.8% A + T content. It consists of 13 PCGs, 22 tRNA, and 2 rRNA genes and an A+T–rich control region. This mitochondrial genome will be a useful resource to understand features of Camponotus genus with adding more mitochondrial genomes of other subgenera, such as Paramyrmamblys.

The genus Gonioctena Chevrolat, 1836 is one of the largest genera of the subfamily Chrysomelinae with approximately110 valid species in nine subgenera distributed in the Holarctic and Oriental Regions (Cho 2016). Their larval morphologyis relatively well known, especially in Europe, the Russian Far East and Japan. Larvae of 41 species have been describedbased primarily on the tubercles and chaetotaxy (Kimoto 1962; Medvedev & Zaitzev 1978; Baselga 2008, 2010, etc.).However, their relationship is still incomplete because descriptions of many species are too brief and more than half ofthe species are completely unknown. Here, we redescribe in detail the last instar larva of Gonioctena coreana (Bechyně),G. gracilicornis (Kraatz), G. jacobsoni (Ogloblin & Medvedev) and G. viminalis (Linnaeus) from South Korea. Noteson biology, host plant and ovoviviparity are also provided.

Netelia Gray, 1860, a largest genus within the subfamily Tryphoninae and its distribution is worldwide. The members of Netelia are known to be ectoparastic koinobionts of lepidopteran larvae. More than 330 species have so far been recorded and divided into 12 subgenera. Among them, the subgenus Amebachia Uchida, 1928 was reported as a genus by Uchida (1928) based on Amebachia baibarana from Taiwan. The lectotype of Amebachia baibarana Uchida, 1928, was re-examined and then this species should be a subgenus of the genus Netelia by Konishi (2010). Consequently, five currently valid species of Netelia (Amebachia) have been described in the world. As a result of the present study, the subgenus Amebachia belonging to the genus Netelia is reported from South Korea for the first time based on a species of Netelia (Amebachia) rasilella and N. (A.) yoshimatsui. Redescriptions and photographs of the diagnostic characters of two species are provided. This research was supported by Basic Science Research Program through the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) funded by the Ministry of Education (NRF-2016R1A6A3A03007788).

Along with the only recorded species Pterolophia (Pseudale) jiriensis Danilevsky, 1996, we found two additional new species based on morphological and genital difference. Descriptions, photographs of habitus and male genitalia of each species and a key to species of Korea are provided herein. Hence, genital variation of 4 different geographical populations of Pterolophia (Pseudale) jiriensis is discussed.

The subgenus Nippocallis (Matsumura, 1917) is one of the 10 subgenera of the genus Tuberculatus Mordvilko, 1894. Originally, this subgenus was regarded as an independent genus of the subtribe Myzocallidina by the distinct morphological features and the host plant association with Castanea (Fagaceae). We performed molecular and morphological analyses to determine whether genus Nippocallis belongs to Tuberculatus group. Molecular analysis of the combined data set of Cytochrome Oxidase subunit I COI, Cytochrome B CytB and Elongation Factor I-alpha EF1α indicated that Nippocallis form a sister clade of the genus Myzocallis Passerini, 1860, apart from the genus Tuberculatus. In this contexts, we propose Nippocallis as a separate genus of the subtribe Myzocallidina.
