This paper, examines the relationship between water temperatures and fishing conditions of common squid by the squid angling fishery from June to September in 1993-1995. The condition of the common squid fishing largely depended on the fluctuation of water temperature in the coastal area of Gampo. Monthly mean water temperatures during June m September in 1993 and 1994 were relatively higher than those in 1995 in Gampo area. But the values between July and August in 1995 were about 5℃ lower than those in 1993 and 1995. Coefficients of variation (CV) of water temperature showed the lowest value during July ~ September in 1993, however, the highest value was observed in July and August in 1994. Catch per unit effort (CPUE ; kg/angling) showed a peak with 73.7kg in 1993 when the CV was low. On the other hand, the lowest CPUE of 39.6kg was observed in 1994 when the CV was high. It was concluded that the high stability of water temperatures and the weak strength of cold water have caused the good fishing conditions of common squid.

The study on the Assembling Mechanism of the Hairtail, Trichiurus lenpturus, at the Fishing Grounds of the Cheju Strait had been investigated by analyzing the relationship of the oceanographic conditions and the fishing ground of the Hairtail in the Cheju Strait. 1. The fishing grounds of the hairtail at the Cheju Strait are formed at the bottom of a high temperature of the tidal front at the coast. area of northern Cheju Island, the tip of the linguiform is high in salinity at the eastern and western entrances of Cheju Island, low salinity eddy on the surface and its surrounding front, various water masses in the Strait and coastal waters of the South Sea in Korea. 2. The fishing grounds of the Hairtail at the Cheju Strait begins with the sea surface temperature higher than 15℃ and the incoming of low salinity water now from the East China Sea. 3. Estimation of optimum temperature and salinity per season based upon analysis for relationship between temperature of water and salinity of the bottom layer and the catch is : 15.2~16.4℃, 34.20~34.40‰ in spring(June); 14.4~ 17.0℃, 33.70~34.30‰ in summer(July~September); and 15.7~ 18.6℃, 33.70~34.50‰ in autumn(October~December). Hairtail are mostly caught at the Yellow Sea Warm Current and Tsushima Current with temperature over 14.5℃ and salinity over 33.70‰ at the bottom layers of the Cheju Strait. 4. Considering the relationship between the amount of hairtail catch and the water temperature of bottom layer, when the bottom water being above 14.0℃ flowed into Cheju Strait through the western entrance of the strait in summer, the ca-h appears to have been abundant. In contrast, the catch has been poor when the temperature of such water was recorded to be below 13℃ Therefore, distribution patterns of water at the bottom layer can be used as a forecast index whether the catch of a certain year will be good or poor.

이 논문은 정치망에서의 어군의 입망상태를 원격으로 감시하기 위하여 개발한 디지털 원격 어군 탐지기의 구성과 실험 결과에 대하여 기술한다. 그 원격 어군탐지기는 해상국와 육상국으로 구성하였다. 전자는 50 kHz의 초음파 송수신부, 자작한 16비트 싱글보드컴퓨터, 데이터 링크용 무선모뎀으로 구성하였다. 싱글보드컴퓨터는 초음파펄스 송신용 트리거 신호, 최대탐지거리, A/D 변환기의 샘플링 간격, 데이터 링크를 제어한다. 에코 데이터의 샘플링 간격은 80μs로 하였다. 후자는 해상국과 동일한 무선 모뎀, 에코그램을 표시하고 그 때의 raw data를 저장하는 노트북 컴퓨터로 구성하였다.필자는 시험 제작한 원격 어군탐지기의 실용성을 확인하기 위한 현장 실험을 행하였다. 그 결과, 얻어진 에코그램은 정치망내의 어군행동을 감시하기에 충분하게 양호하고 명료하였다.

In the fishing process on the sea eel pots, the most dangerous and difficult labor is manually separating process of several thousand pots from main line with high speed hauling operation. In this study, the automatic separating system of the pot from main line is developed. This system is composed with the clip connected to the pot by branch line, the keeper attached to the main line by pressing and the separator separating the clip and the keeper. In the experiment, static and dynamic characteristics of the system are investigated. From the considerations on the experimental results, it is ascertained that the automatic separating system of the pot from main line proposed in this study has good operating performance.

In order to study basic information on the developed electro-magnetic compass, experiments were carried out on board M. S. KAYA at the pier of Dong Kuk Steel Mill in Pusan and the Korean southern sea using a three-axis magnetic sensor from Jan. 21, 1995 to Feb. 14, 1996. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The amount of old metal on the pier was about 27,290tons~57,440tons with an average of 40,560tons, the artificial local disturbance at the pier was min. 27.1μT, max. 66.5μT, ave. 433μT for the horizontal component and min. -27.0μT, max. 45.1μT, ave. 3.7μT for the vertical component. Its direction of horizontal component was 305˚ with the ship's head up bearing at 225˚. 2. The ship's magnetic distribution on the starboard side on berthing at the pier was 17.4μT for the horizontal component and -6.2μT for the vertical component. On the ship's port side, it was 19.8μT for the horizontal component and 4.1μT for the vertical component. On the ship's starboard side at sea, the ship's magnetic distribution was 19.2μT for the horizontal component and 3.2μT for the vertical component. On the ship's port side, the readings were 22.0μT for the horizontal component and -1.8μT for the vertical component. The directions of these readings were nearly starboard side. 3. On the pier, the secular change of the artificial local disturbance decreased 8.3μT from 61.0μT to 52.7μT for the horizontal component and decreased 7.1μT from 8.9μT M 1.8μT for the vertical component. On the starboard side from its berth, the ship, s magnetic distribution increased 2.6μT from 14.8μT to 17.4μT for the horizontal component and increased -0.1μT from -6.1μT to -6.2μT for the vertical component. On the ship's port side from its berth, it increased 7.1μT from 12.7μT to 19.8μT for the horizontal component and increased 10.2μT from -6.1μT to 4.1μT for the vertical component. 4. While at sea, on the ship's starboard side, the Secular change of the ship's magnetic distribution increased 3.9μT from 15.3μT to 19.2μT for the horizontal component and increased 2.0μT from -5.2μT to -3.2μT for the vertical component. On the port side, the changes increased 11.4μT from 10.6μT to 22.0μT for the horizontal component and increased 4.9μT from -6.7μT to -1.8μT for the vertical component. Upon berthing at the pier, the deviation of the secular change increased westerly 1 degree W~ 2.5˚ W from 3.5˚ W~ 5˚ W M 6W with the ship's head up bearing at 225˚. While at sea, these increased westerly 2˚ ~ 3˚ from the Northeast to the South and increased easterly 1˚ ~ 8˚ from the Southwest to the North. 5. While at port, within 1 mile between the ship and berth of the pier, as we approached the pier, the westerly deviation increased and when we departed the pier easterly deviation increased. When approaching the pier, the deviation was smaller than the deviation when the ship was departing from the pier. When approaching the bearing at 225˚ with the ship's head up bearing, the varies of deviation was smaller than the varies when the ship's head up bearing was departing from it.

In order to investigate the relation between the environmental factors influencing on the fluctuation of fishing condition and the catch of anchovy in gill nets in the coastal waters of Yosu, five oceanographic factors, i.e., water temperature, salinity, chlorophyll-a and the catch of anchovy in gill nets are observed from June 6 to August 12 in 1993. The results obtained are summerized as follows: 1) The water temperature ranged from 16.0℃ to 22.6℃ and the salinity from 30.13‰ to 33.65‰. the water temperature and salinity showed no significant influence on the catch of anchovy, but the catch did not expose high values in low temperature and salinity. 2) The catch of anchovy increased with the amount of chlorophyll-a. It is therefore emphasized that the amount of chlorophyll-a is the greatest one of environmental factors influencing on the catch of anchovy.

When an automatic course-keeping is concerned, as is quite popular in modem navigation, the closed-loop steering system consists of autopilot device, power unit (or telemotor unit), steering gear, magnetic or gyro compass and ship dynamics. In order to estimate automatic steering system of ships in open seas. we need to know the characteristics of each component of the system, and also to know the characteristics of disturbance to ship dynamics. In this paper, I provide calculation method of imposing irregular disturbance to autopilot navigation system of the ship in open seas, and also show calculation examples about fishing boat. The disturbance consists of the irregular wave and the fluctuating component of wind. Finally, The disturbances are calculated in terms of equivalent yaw angular velocity. Each spectrum and time history of disturbance are reasonably evaluated.

In order to accumulate fundamental. data for control of fishes’ behavior at the real fishing ground, the fitness of the numerical model for describing the behavior of fishes was examined by the marine fish. Mullet, Mugil cephalus were used as experimental fishes. The numerical model of fishes’ behavior presented in our earlier paper was modified on the vertical movement of fish school. For the comparision of parameters of the modified numerical model between mullet and rainbow trout, the estimated values of parameters were identified with dimension. The fitness of the modified numerical model was examined by the comparision between experiment and simulation on the several indexes represented by fishes’ swimming characteristics. The obtained result are summarized a follows : 1. The non-dimensional parameter a’ of propulsive force and kb’ of interactive force by the experiment without model net showed a similarity, but the non-dimensional parameter k sub(c’) of schooling force for rainbow trout was lager than one for mullet and the non-dimensional parameter k sub(w’) of repulsive force for mullet was lager than one for rainbow trout. 2. The non-dimensional parameter a’ and k sub(b’) for rainbow trout by the experiment with model net were a little lager than ones for mullet, but non-dimensional parameter k sub(c’) and k sub(w’) for mullet were lager than ones for rainbow trout. 3. The non-dimensional parameter k sub(c’) and k sub(b’) showed the largest and the smallest value among the non-dimensional parameters for rainbow trout and mullet, respectively. 4. The fitness of the modified numerical model was confirmed by means of the compulsion between experiment and simulation on the swimming trajectory of fishes, the mean distance of individual from wall, the mean swimming speed, the mean swimming depth and the mean distance between the nearest individuals. Especially, the similarity of mean swimming depth was improved by using the modified numerical model.

The aim of this study was to develop the artificial trap baits being able to replace the natural anchovy or sardine baits. The fishing trials for evaluating the fishing efficiencies of the artificial baits were conducted with commercial traps at coastal areas near Tongyoung, southern Korea. The preferable artificial baits which were made of minced anchovy, sardine, mackerel, or fish surplus products mixed with wheat flour into dry or wet pelleted or crumbled types, were showed some merits as the following. \circled1 Fishing efficiencies of the artificial baits were same or little higher level than that of the natural bait anchovy; \circled2 bait cost were same or little lower level; \circled3 dry artificial baits stocked in the room condition showed good fishing efficiencies; \circled4 making of artificial baits were very simple; \circled5 there were no harm to the fish and little pollution to the environment; \circled6 the releasing rate of attractants in the artificial or natural bait showed similar patterns. The artificial baits using the fish by-products which were vacuum freeze-drying extract of boiled anchovy or tunas extract, showed lower catches in the conger eel, Coner miriaster, but similar catches in the crabs, mainly Charybdis japonica, to the those of natural anchovy bait.

Feeding habits of Lateolabrax Japonicus collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay from January 1994 to December 1994 were studied. L. Japonicus was a carnivore which consumed mainly amphipods (gammarid amphipods and caprellid amphipods), crabs, caridean shrimps and copepods. Its diets included small quantities of fishes, mysids, polychaetes, tanaids and isopods. Three distinct ontogenetic feeding groups were noted : (1) 1~2 cm SL individuals preyed heavily on copepods. (2) 2~15 cm SL individuals preyed heavily on amphipods. (3) individuals over 15 cm SL preyed heavily on crabs, caridean shrimps and fishes. L. Japonicus showed seasonal changes in prey composition. These changes were not caused by seasonal changes in food availability, but by changes in the size composition of L. Japonicus occurred in the eelgrass bed.

Heat transfer performance improvement by fin and groovs is studied for condensation of R-11 on integral-fin tubes. Eight tubes with trapczodially shaped integral-fins having fin density from 748 to 1654fpm(fin per meter) and 10, 30 grooves are tested. A plain tube having the same diameter as the finned tubes is also used for comparison. R-11 condensates at saturation state of 32 ℃ on the outside tube surface coded by inside water flow. All of test data are taken at steady state. The heat transfer loop is used for testing singe long tubes and cooling is pumped from a storage tank through filters and folwmeters to the horizontal test section where it is heated by steam condensing on the outside of the tubes. The pressure drop across the test section is measured by menas pressure gauge and manometer. The results obtained in this study is as follows : 1. Based on inside diameter and nominal inside area, overall heat transfer coefficients of finned tube are enhanced up to 1.6 ~ 3.7 times that of a plain tube at a constant Reynolds number. 2. Friction factors are up to 1.6 ~ 2.1 times those of plain tubes. 3. The constant pumping power ratio for the low integral-fin tubes increase directly with the effective area to the nominal area ratio, and with the effective area diameter ratio. 4. A tube having a fin density of 1299fpm and 30 grooves has the best heat transfer performance.

Recently, with the rapid development in the industries such as mechanical plants, automobiles, ships and marine structures, it is enlarged by the use of the SS 41 steel. This mechanical plants and marine structures are exposed m corrosion because of Cl-under marine environments. To protect their accidents, mainly applied anti-corrosion epoxy coating and various protective its structures. In this study, corrosion control characteristics on the epoxy coating were investigated by the galvanic corrosion of impressed voltage tester under marine environments The main results obtained are as follows; 1. Corrosion current density of amine-epoxy coating becomes more increased than that of other epoxy coating and the time area rate of pin hole and pit until 5% becomes most rapid. 2. The potential of SUS 304 stainless steel(cathode) for Al-epoxy coating is nearly zero potential. 3. Corrosion current density of Amine-epoxy by shot blast becomes more decreased than that of not shot blast and cathodic potential becomes more noble. 4. As distance of anode and cathode is more decreased, corrosion current density of epoxy coating is more increased and cathodic potential becomes less noble.

Generally, the three position solenoid valve has veen used for the hydraulic steering gear on account of it’s low cost, simplicity in device, etc. But, there is some off-set because of dead-zone which exists in on-off valves. In this paper, we proposed a combined controller which was added an integral controller to an only on-off one in hydraulic steering gear control system used low speed three position solenoid valve. Experimental results show that the off-set is removed, and the number of valve switching is reduced considerable. The validity of proposed method comparing with an only on-off control was proved by the response experiments.
