        산지하천 만곡부의 홍수피해를 줄이고자 사다리꼴 단면의 돌출줄눈을 하천옹벽에 설치하였다. 본 연구에서는 사다리꼴 형상에 의한 흐름저항 효과를 파악하고자 개수로 측벽에 사다리꼴 돌출줄눈을 설치하여 수리실험을 수행하였다. 벽면조도가 κ형에 해당하는 λnυ가 6, 9, 12인 경우에 대해 유량에 따른 흐름특성을 파악하였다. 흐름저항은 돌줄줄눈의 설치간격이 멀어짐에 따라 전반적으로 증가하였다. 고유량 조건에서 최대마찰계수는 λnυ가 9일 때 발생하였다. 사다리꼴 돌출줄눈은 정사각형 돌출줄눈과 비교해 흐름저항은 상대적으로 작았지만, 사다리꼴의 형상저항은 전체흐름저항의 평균 62%를 차지했다. 벽면조도 증가에 따른 흐름저항 효과를 극대화하기 위한 사다리꼴 돌출줄눈의 최적 설치간격은 돌출줄눈 높이의 9∼12배 범위임을 확인하였다.

        국내 남성에게서 지속적으로 발생하는 전립선암을 대상으로, 근접치료 시 금 나노입자 밀도에 따른 흡수 선량을 평가하고자 하였다. 흡수선량 평가는 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션을 이용한 MCNPX 프로그램을 이용하였다. 선원은 일시적 삽입선원 192Ir과 영구적 삽입선원 103Pd을 이용하였으며, 금 나노입자의 밀도는 0 mg, 7 mg, 18 mg, 30 mg으로 하였다. 그 결과 표적장기인 전립선은 192Ir이 2.95E-14 Gy/e에서 4.42E-14 Gy/e로 밀도에 비례해서 증가하였으며, 103Pd도 동일한 경향성을 보였다. 또한 주변장기에 대한 선량은 밀도에 반비례하여 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 근접치료 시 나노입자의 사용은 치료가능비를 상승시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

        본 연구에서는 한강유역 산지소하천 미세소유역별 돌발홍수 재현기간을 산정하고, 돌발홍수 실사례를 활용하여 적합성을 평가하였다. 이를 위해 1시간 지속기간의 한계유출량과 SURR 모형으로 모의한 토양포화미흡량으로부터 돌발홍수능을 산정하였다. 이후 돌발홍수능을 초과한 과거 집중호우 사상(2002∼2010년)의 강우량과 재현기간별 유역평균확률강우량을 비교하여 미세소유역별 돌발홍수 재현기간을 산정하였다. 또한, 돌발홍수 실사례(2011∼2016년) 강수량으로부터 추정된 재현기간을 활용하여 적합성을 평가하였다. 돌발홍수 재현기간 산정결과 평균은 1.6년, 표준편차는 1.1로 산정되었으며, 1.1∼19.9년 범위로 나타났다. 적합성 평가결과 돌발홍수 사례별 추정된 재현기간의 83%가 돌발홍수 재현기간 범위 이내로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 산정한 돌발홍수 재현기간의 적합성은 높은 것으로 판단된다.

        4차 산업혁명의 기술 중 3D 프린팅 기술의 소재에 따른 선량평가를 통해 볼루스 적용 가능성을 평가하 였다. 선량의 평가는 몬테카를로 방식의 MCNPX프로그램을 이용하였으며, 3D 프린트 물성은 ABS, PC, PL A 세 가지로 하였다. 그리하여 볼루스 10 mm와 동일한 효과를 보이는 두께를 산정한 결과 6 MeV 전자선의 경우 ABS 10 mm, PC 9 mm, PLA 9 mm로 나타났다. 6 MV X-선의 경우 ABS 11 mm, PC 10 mm, PLA 9 mm로 나타났다. 본 실험을 통해 3D 프린터 소재로 제작하는 조직등가물질이 볼루스를 대체할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

        This paper focuses on the interpretation of radiation fluxes from active galactic nuclei. The advantage of positron annihilation spectroscopy over other methods of spectral diagnostics of active galactic nuclei (therefore AGN) is demonstrated. A relationship between regular and random components in both bolometric and spectral composition of fluxes of quanta and particles generated in AGN is found. We consider their diffuse component separately and also detect radiative feedback after the passage of high-velocity cosmic rays and hard quanta through gas-and-dust aggregates surrounding massive black holes in AGN. The motion of relativistic positrons and electrons in such complex systems produces secondary radiation throughout the whole investigated region of active galactic nuclei in form of cylinder with radius R= 400-1000 pc and height H=200-400 pc, thus causing their visible luminescence across all spectral bands. We obtain radiation and electron energy distribution functions depending on the spatial distribution of the investigated bulk of matter in AGN. Radiation luminescence of the noncentral part of AGN is a response to the effects of particles and quanta falling from its center created by atoms, molecules and dust of its diffuse component. The cross-sections for the single-photon annihilation of positrons of different energies with atoms in these active galactic nuclei are determined. For the first time we use the data on the change in chemical composition due to spallation reactions induced by high-energy particles. We establish or define more accurately how the energies of the incident positron, emitted γ-quantum and recoiling nucleus correlate with the atomic number and weight of the target nucleus. For light elements, we provide detailed tables of all indicated parameters. A new criterion is proposed, based on the use of the ratio of the fluxes of γ-quanta formed in one- and two-photon annihilation of positrons in a diffuse medium. It is concluded that, as is the case in young supernova remnants, the two-photon annihilation tends to occur in solid-state grains as a result of active loss of kinetic energy of positrons due to ionisation down to thermal energy of free electrons. The singlephoton annihilation of positrons manifests itself in the gas component of active galactic nuclei. Such annihilation occurs as interaction between positrons and K-shell electrons; hence, it is suitable for identification of the chemical state of substances comprising the gas component of the investigated media. Specific physical media producing high fluxes of positrons are discussed; it allowed a significant reduction in the number of reaction channels generating positrons. We estimate the brightness distribution in the γ-ray spectra of the gas-and-dust media through which positron fluxes travel with the energy range similar to that recorded by the Payload for Antimatter Matter Exploration and Light-nuclei Astrophysics (PAMELA) research module. Based on the results of our calculations, we analyse the reasons for such a high power of positrons to penetrate through gas-and-dust aggregates. The energy loss of positrons by ionisation is compared to the production of secondary positrons by high-energy cosmic rays in order to determine the depth of their penetration into gas-and-dust aggregations clustered in active galactic nuclei. The relationship between the energy of γ-quanta emitted upon the single-photon annihilation and the energy of incident electrons is established. The obtained cross sections for positron interactions with bound electrons of the diffuse component of the non-central, peripheral AGN regions allowed us to obtain new spectroscopic characteristics of the atoms involved in singlephoton annihilation.

        산업 비파괴 분야에서 사용되는 방사선원은 장비의 노후화 및 작업자의 부주의로 인해 선원이 노출되는 사고가 발생되어 왔다. 이에 선원의 위치를 실시간으로 추적할 수 있는 안전관리 시스템의 필요성이 부곽 되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 방사선원의 위치 추적을 위한 line-array 선량계를 구성하는 unit-cell 선량계 단위의 각도의존성을 분석하기 위해 Monte Carlo Simulation을 수행하였다. 그 결과 각 기울기에서 상위 1 0% 수치에 대한 오차율은 0°에서 5.90%, 30°에서 8.08%, 60°에서 20.90%의 오차율을 보였다. 총 흡수선량의 비율은 0°(100%)를 기준으로 30°에서 83.77%, 60°에서 53.36%로 나타났으며 기울기가 증가함에 따라 낮아지는 경향성을 보였다. 모든 기울기에서 최대 수치는 30°의 No. 9에서 나타났으며, No. 10에서는 7.24% 낮아지는 경향성을 보였다. 본 연구 결과 각도의존성은 크게 발생되는 것으로 나타났으며, 이를 낮추기 위해서는 선원과 line-array 선량계의 적정거리는 1 cm 이상의 거리에서 유지해야 하는 것으로 사료된다.

        Co-60 및 Ir-192 등의 방사성 동위원소가 비파괴 검사(Non-Destructive Test; NDT) 등의 분야에서 널리 쓰 임에 따라 방사선 안전관리가 매우 중요시되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 요오드화수은(Mercury(Ⅱ) Iodide; HgI2) 의 선원추적 시스템 적용 가능성을 평가하였다. HgI2로 제작된 Unit cell 센서의 신뢰도 검증을 위한 전기적 특성평가를 수행한 후, 방사선에 대한 센서의 위치의존성을 분석하고, Planning system의 선량 분포와 비교 하였다. 평가결과, R-sq>0.99 이상의 선형성과 CV<0.015 이하의 재현성을 보이며 신뢰도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 위치의존성 평가에서는 센서의 isocenter에서 최댓값이 측정되었으며, 거리에 따라 점진적 감소를 나타냈다. 그러나 Planning system 상의 선량 분포 데이터와는 최대 30%의 차이를 보였는데, 센서는 단일지점으로부터 데이터를 수집하는 Planning system과 달리 면적으로부터 수집하기 때문으로 사료된다.

        A new Gomchwi cultivar ‘Sammany’ was developed by a cross between Gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri (Ledeb.) Turcz.) and Handaeri-gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri var. spiciformis Nakai). Gomchwi is a common Korean name referring wild edible plant species within Ligularia genus. ‘Sammany’ has purple colored petiole ears and petiole trichome is absent. It has 2nd degree leaf vein density. Plant height, leaf length, leaf width and petiole length were 46.2, 19.1, 19.5 and 32.1 ㎝, respectively. Plant height was higher than ‘Gondalbi’. Bolting occurred in mid. July and it flowered from late August to early September. ‘Gondalbi’ bolted and flowered 26 days earlier than ‘Sammany’, and consequently has earlier flowering time more than 26 day. Leaf number of ‘Sammany’ was 156 per plant but ‘Gondalbi’ had 130. ‘Sammany’ had thicker leaves (0.61 ㎜) compared to ‘Gondalbi’ (0.46 ㎜). As a result, yield was higher in ‘Sammany (1,077 g/plant)’ than ‘Gondalbi (798 g/plant)’ and leaf hardness was lower in ‘Sammany (20.8 ㎏/㎠)’ compared to ‘Gondalbi (23.0 ㎏/㎠)’. In addition, ‘Sammany’ was found to be moderately resistant to powdery mildew. With enhanced agronomic and pathology traits, ‘Sammany’ was newly registered as a new Gomchwi cultivar (variety protection no. 131 on May 2017).

        This study presents the generation and accuracy assessment of predicted orbital ephemeris based on satellite laser ranging (SLR) for geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) satellites. Two GEO satellites are considered: GEO-Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT)-2B (GK-2B) for simulational validation and Compass-G1 for real-world quality assessment. SLR-based orbit determination (OD) is proactively performed to generate orbital ephemeris. The length and the gap of the predicted orbital ephemeris were set by considering the consolidated prediction format (CPF). The resultant predicted ephemeris of GK-2B is directly compared with a pre-specified true orbit to show 17.461 m and 23.978 m, in 3D root-mean-square (RMS) position error and maximum position error for one day, respectively. The predicted ephemeris of Compass-G1 is overlapped with the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) final orbit from the GeoForschungsZentrum (GFZ) analysis center (AC) to yield 36.760 m in 3D RMS position differences. It is also compared with the CPF orbit from the International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS) to present 109.888 m in 3D RMS position differences. These results imply that SLR-based orbital ephemeris can be an alternative candidate for improving the accuracy of commonly used radar-based orbital ephemeris for GEO satellites.

        한반도는 계절 및 지리적 위치에 따라 강수특성이 상이하여 수자원 관리 및 계획수립 시 홍수, 가뭄을 사전에 대비하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 더욱이 기후변화로 인한 강수 및 기온의 변화는 홍수 및 가뭄 등 수재해의 변동을 더욱 심화시킬 것으로 예상된다. 본 연구에서는 남한 5대강(한강, 낙동강, 금강, 섬진강, 영산강)을 대상으로 기후변화에 따른 우기(7∼9월)와 건기(10∼3월)에서의 미래 하천유량의 변화를 전망 및 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위해 CMIP5의 핵심실험인 2개 RCP 시나리오(RCP4.5, RCP8.5)를 이용하였으며, 적정 GCM (INMCM4 모형)을 선정하였다. 5대강 유역의 유량을 전망하기 위해 상세화된 기후변화 시나리오를 장기 강우-유출모형(PRMS 모형)의 입력으로 하여 유량해석을 수행하였다. 장기간의 자료를 활용하여 PRMS의 모형 매개변수를 추정하였으며, 과거기간(1976∼2005년) 대비 미래 3기간(2025s, 2055s, and 2085s)에 대한 우기 및 건기 시의 유량변화를 분석하였다. 평가결과, 건기에서의 유출량 감소는 RCP8.5 시나리오 대비 RCP4.5 시나리오에서 더 크게 나타났으며, RCP4.5 시나리오 하에서 2025s, 2055s 기간의 유출량은 -7.23%, -3.81% 감소하는 것으로 나타나 가까운 미래(2025s) 기간에서의 유출량 감소가 더욱 클 것으로 전망되었다. 먼 미래(2085s) 기간의 경우, 북부지역은 유량이 증가, 남부지역은 유량이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, RCP 8.5 시나리오 하에서는 남부지역을 포함한 대부분의 지역이 가뭄에 대한 취약성이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 우기에서의 유출량 변화는 2개 RCP 시나리오 및 미래 전 기간에서 지역에 따라 유량이 증가(북부 및 서부지역) 또는 감소(남부)하는 것으로 나타났다.

        At a turn of the third millennium the world storms and quickly changes. It became difficult to expect what expects us tomorrow. The most important are questions of recovery from the crisis and rescue of mankind from forthcoming global changes: warming of climate, water and food problems, social, economic and political conflicts that are shaking the world and other various cataclysms, accidents, negative processes. It puts before mankind the problem which never solved by our civilization. All this is caused by ignoring of objective economic laws, laws of wildlife and also by violation of cyclic development management’s laws. In article the concept of strategy of mankind’s survival in XXI and next centuries, the principles of creation of planetary house of universal civilization for post-industrial world based on spirituality scientific and technological revolutions, ecology, space exploration, economy and world safety are considered. Introduction of uniform universal measurement of currency for the whole world in the form of "power" is offered. Important aspect of a research is theoretical postulate on integrated innovative society. The author puts forward a new paradigm of government on a basis of 5 spirals. The basic model of forced development of small and medium business, including 9 projects, is developed.

        본 연구에서는 ANFIS 기반 GloSea5 앙상블 기상전망 개선 기법을 개발하고 평가하였다. 대상유역은 국내 주요 다목적댐인 충주댐 유역을 선정하였으며, 개선 기법은 ANFIS 기반의 전·후처리기법으로 구성된다. 전처리 기법에서 GloSea5의 앙상블 멤버에 가중치를 부여하며(OWM), 후처리 과정에서는 전처리결과를 편의보정 한다(MOS). 평가결과 편의보정된 GloSea5에 비해 예측성능이 개선되었으며, CASE3, CASE1, CASE2 순으로 모의성능이 우수하였다. 전처리 기법은 강수의 변동성이 큰 계절에 개선효과가 우수하였으며, 후처리 기법은 전처리로 개선하지 못한 오차를 줄일 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구에서 개발한 ANFIS 기반 GloSea5 앙상블 기상전망 개선 기법은 전·후처리 기법을 함께 사용하는 것이 가장 좋으며, 특히 여름철과 같이 강수의 변동성이 큰 계절에 활용성이 높을 것으로 판단된다.

        본 연구는 시판되고 있는 효모의 종류에 따라 약주의 품질 특성에 미치는 영향을 보고자 하였다. 발효 완료 후 총산은 0.26%에서 0.40% 범위였으며, 가장 낮은 것은 La parisinne(red)로 발효시킨 약주였고 가장 높은 것은 EC1118 효모로 발효시킨 약주였다. 발효에 사용한 효모의 종류에 따라 약주의 아미노산도는 2.49-5.59 범위로 큰 차이를 나타냈는데, K1-V1116, La parisienne(black), La parisienne(red)로 발효시킨 약주는 아미노산도가 각각 5.59, 5.55, 5.34로 비교적 높았다. 반면에 Fermivin으로 발효시킨 약주는 2.49로 다른 효모로 빚은 약주에 비해 낮은 수치를 보였다. EC1118 효모로 양조한 약주의 경우, 발효 완료 후 환원당과 가용성고형물이 0.19% 및 7.17 °Brix로 낮아, 잔당이 적은 드라이타입의 약주제조에 적합할 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구에서 제조한 약주의 주요 유기산은 호박산과 젖산이었으며, 특히 La parisienne(black), La parisienne(red)로 발효시킨 약주에서 신맛보다는 감칠맛을 내는 호박산이 많이 함유되었다. 이것으로 아미노산도가 높고 감칠맛을 내는 호박산을 많이 생성하며 고온에서도 발효가 가능한 La parisienne이 탁·약주 발효에 사용하여도 무방할 것으로 사료된다. 또한, 주요 휘발성 성분은 아세트알데히드와 초산 그리고 이소아밀알코올이었으며, 그중에 아세트알데히드와 초산 함량은 본 연구에 사용한 효모의 종류에 따라 크게 차이가 있었다.

        Inflorescence, stem, and leaf samples of lettuce grown in a greenhouse in spring and autumn seasons were assayed for sesquiterpene lactones (SLs) content by high performance liquid chromatography. The concentrations of SLs were significantly higher in the inflorescences followed by upper leaf and stem compared to the other plant parts in most of the samples. SLs content (sum of lactucin and lactucopicrin) in various tissues of lettuce cultivated in spring season varied from 5.7 to 22.5 fold ranging from 27.4 ㎍/g dry weight (DW) in the upper stem (cultivar “PI 176588”) as the lowest to as high as 2,292.0 ㎍/g DW in the inflorescence (cultivar “709849-1”). During autumn cultivation, the concentration of SLs varied from 2.0 to 14.4 fold ranging from as low of 32.4 ㎍/g DW in the lower stem (cultivar “PI176588”) to as high of 838.0 ㎍/g DW in the upper leaf (cultivar “Dambaesangchu”). Higher lactucin (1.2 to 5.6 fold) and lactucopicrin (1.1 to 3.9 fold) concentration was observed during spring compared to autumn cultivation in most of the samples. SLs content in various organs of lettuce increases from the basal plant part going upwards. As lactucin and lactucopicrin are the major SLs which affects the sensory property of lettuce, their quantitative variation in the lettuce cultivars is useful for breeding new varieties with better consumer acceptance.

        Shipping containers promote rapid development of the transport industry, and generate economic and social value. However, problems often occur due to imbalance in dynamics between exports and imports, container relocation, traffic congestion, and general shipping network designs. So, efficient and cost-effective cargo management has become crucial for the Jeju Island – Mokpo container route (JMCR) in South Korea. Dozens of recent studies reveal that collapsible or foldable containers, may become an innovative solution to problematic issues within the shipping industry. The major purpose of this study is to discuss conditions required for successful commercial application of foldable containers, based on a cost-benefit analysis precisely for the JMCR. Findings reveal usage of foldable containers can be cost-effective, if containers make a “FULL<->EMPTY” route. To the contrary, a “FULL<->FULL” route can drastically increase expenditure. However, economic analysis of actual figures for 2010-2015 indicate that benefits for Mokpo – Jeju direction are significant to cover losses on the Jeju – Mokpo line. Seasonal patterns and mixing percentages of foldable and standard containers on the route, may also produce cost-effective solutions. Sensitivity analysis reveals that benefits from using foldable containers, depend mostly on empty container shares in addition to various extra costs.

        Background : The purpose of this study is to select potential genetic resources from safflower germplasm collected from India based on their oil compositions and agronomic characteristics. Methods and Results : The agronomic characteristics were measured during the growing period of the safflower. Total oil contents were recovered by Soxhlet extraction and the fatty acid compositions were analyzed by using gas chromatography. The mean of plant height, leaf length and leaf width were 100.19 ㎝, 20.49 ㎝, and 7.29 ㎝, respectively. The percentage of leaf margin with serration was 95%, and 2% of the total resources didn’t have spines on the involucral bract. K185681 had no spines on the involucral bract and the plant height was the smallest. 73% of the flower of safflower was yellow. 68% of safflower germplasm changed flower color from yellow to red. Total oil contents of 267 safflower accessions showed a significant variability among the entire domain of collections and ranged from 5.81 to 38.91%. Palmitic and stearic acid were ranged from 4.98 to 6.65%, and 1.82 to 2.73%, respectively. Oleic and linoleic acid showed a wide variation which ranged from 10.53 to 22.27%, and 69.46 to 81.26%, respectively. Linolenic acid was ranged from 0.06 to 0.13%. K185639 and K185639 had the highest total oil contents and linoleic acid, respectively. Cluster analysis based on oil composition and agronomic characteristics data divided the germplasm collections into three groups. Group Ⅲ having 114 accessions contained accessions with taller plant height than the other groups. Group Ⅱ having 68 accessions, the main color of flower was white but the other groups were yellow. Oleic acid showed a strong negative correlation (r = -0.9691**) with linoleic acid. Principal component analysis (PCA) based on the oil compositions and agronomic characteristics data revealed that the first two principal components (PC1 and PC2) together explained 36.28% total variation. Conclusion : These results showed that K185681, K185639 and K185639 could be useful to develop breeding and functional food.

        Background : To select potential plant resources as natural antioxidants and functional materials, e valuation of N-(p-coumaroyl)serotonin (CS) and N-feruloylserotonin (FS) in 43 safflower accessions collected from South Asia was conducted. Method and Results : CS and FS were analyzed by using Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC). Total phenolic content (TPC) was determined by Folin-Ciocalteu method and antioxidant activities were estimated by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazil (DPPH), 2,2'-azino-bis-3- ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS) radical scavenging activities, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and reducing power (RP). The mean CS content was 32.74 ㎎/g dried extract (DE) with a range from 3.44 to 83.30 ㎎/g DE, and the FS content ranged from 1.43 to 34.53 ㎎/g·DE with a mean of 12.69 ㎎/g DE. The mean of TPC of 43 safflower accessions was 55.22 ㎍ GAE/㎎·DE. The average values of antioxidant activities based on DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, and RP assay showed 48.77 ㎍ ASC eq/㎎ DE, 97.62 ㎍ ASC eq/㎎ DE, 70.22 ㎍ ASC eq/㎎ DE, and 50.01 ㎍ ASC eq/㎎ DE, respectively. The 43 safflower accessions were classified into two groups based on the complete linkage cluster analysis using their CS, FS, TPC, DPPH, ABTS, FRAP and RP. Group Ⅱ showed higher CS, FS and antioxidant activity than Group Ⅰ (p < 0.05). K185245 and K185247 were included in Group Ⅱ, K185245 had the highest CS and FS, and K185247 was the highest in TPC, DPPH, and ABTS. CS had significant positive correlation with FS (r = 0.849**). Significantly high correlation coefficients were recorded between TPC and antioxidant assays including DPPH, ABTS, and RP. The first two principal components had accounted for the 80.46 % of the total variance. Conclusion : These results showed that K185245 and K185247 could be used as a source of valuable natural antioxidant materials and could be useful to develop new functional materials.

        Background : Carotenoids are pigments that are found in plants, fruits, bacteria, and fungi. β -carotene and canthaxanthin are orange pigments among thousands of carotenoids that possess potent antioxidant activity. The objective of this study was to determine β-carotene and cantaxanthin in 55 Kimchi cabbage germplasm using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method. Method and Results : 55 Kimchi cabbage accessions were sown in plug trays in the end of August, 2016. All the tissue samples were freeze-dried for 1 week and ground into fine powder and stored at -20℃ until analysis. Crude carotenoids from freeze-dried materials (100 mg) were extracted using 1 ㎖ of 100% (v/v) hexane in 10 minutes by using sonication bath followed by centrifugation. The average β-carotene contents was 1.43 ㎎·㎏-1 and ranged from 0.76 (IT 120045) to 2.25 ㎎·㎏-1 (IT 100378). The average canthaxanthin content in the entire domain of sample was 0.59 ㎎·㎏-1 with a range between 0.36 (IT 32746) and 1.08 ㎎․㎏-1 (IT 100386). Canthaxanthin content was significantly positively correlated with β-carotene (r = 0.65**) and leaf length (r = 0.63**). However, canthaxanthin was negatively correlated with cotyledon color (r = -0.41**). Principal component analysis results of the first two components (PC1 and PC2) explained 44.53% of the point variability. Conclusion : The resources with the highest β-carotene and canthaxanthin content are IT 100378, 100386, 100391, and 110828. This study could be useful to select a potential sources of health beneficial carotenoids (β-carotene and canthaxanthin) in Kimchi cabbage germplasm in nutraceutical formulations and for further applications as a breeding material and other research activities.

        Background : Alpha-linolenic acid is a type of omega-3 fatty acid and has been reported to be found at a remarkably high content in seeds of perilla (Perilla frutescens). The purpose of this study was to investigate the fatty acid compositions in 45 perilla accessions collected from Russia and recommend the potential genetic resources related to their fatty acid compositions. Methods and Results : The 45 accessions of perilla seeds which were collected from Russia were used for the study. Perilla seed oil was recovered using hexane in a soxhlet extraction method. The fatty acid compositions were analyzed using gas chromatography. The total oil content was ranged between 28.39 and 46.89%. The compositions of palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic acid ranged from 5.57 to 7.09%, 1.16 to 2.27%, 11.83 to 19.55%, 11.92 to 16.71%, and 59.19 to 67.28%, respectively. Cultivars 'Dayu', 'Daeyu' and 'Anyu' showed lower linolenic acid composition compared to the average value of linoleic acid in perilla germplasms collected from Russia. Cluster analysis based on the fatty acid composition of the 45 perilla accessions segregated into three groups. Group Ⅰ characterized as higher palmitic, stearic and oleic acid compositions compared to other groups. Group Ⅱ which contained 12 accessions had high total oil and linoleic acid composition. Group Ⅲ characterized as a higher linolenic acid composition compared to other groups (p < 0.001). Oleic acid showed a significant negative correlation (r = -0.825) with linolenic acid. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that the first two principal components together explained 74.4% total variation. Conclusion : Our results indicated that accessions IT235818, IT235820, IT226739 which exhibited high linolenic acid composition could be useful to develop new functional vegetable oil materials.

        Background : Sclerotinia rot, caused by a fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, is one of the serious and unpredictable yield losses in perilla (Perilla frutescens) leaf production in Korea. Screening disease resistant genetic resources is necessary to develop disease-resistant cultivars and conduct related research. Methods and Results : A Total of 150 perilla accessions, including 123 Korean landraces and 27 cultivars developed in Korea, were evaluated for resistance to Sclerotinia rot (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) using detached leaf inoculation technique. Sclerotinia sclerotiorum isolate KACC40457 was inoculated at the seedling stage (five to six leaves). For detached leaf method, a mycelial plug was placed fungus-side down on the main leaf vain and incubated at 22 ± 1℃ on moistened paper towel in a plastic box. Three Korean landraces, including IT117036, IT117106, and IT117110, and cultivar IT229431 showed 100% of resistance ratio (no. of plants showed below 1 ㎝ of lesion size/total evaluated plants × 100). Seven accessions including five landraces, IT117080, IT117107, IT117048, 117042, 117029, and two cultivaers, IT276225 and IT213781, showed high level of resistance that is higher than 80% of resistance ratio Conclusion : 11 accessions which showed strong and moderate level of resistance to Sclerotinia rot could be possibly used by breeders, farmers, and researchers to produce new disease resistant cultivars and use them commercially. However, research related to the exploration of appropriate materials (accessions) for breeding cultivars with good quality, high functional components, high consumer acceptability, etc. should be continued, considering pathogenicity test was conducted in young stage.
