        Waste containers for packaging, transportation and disposal of NPP (Nuclear Power Plant) decommissioning wastes are being developed. In this study, drop tests were conducted to prove the safety of containers for packaging of the wastes and to verify the reliability of the analysis results by comparing the test and analysis results. The drop height of the waste containers was considered to be 30 mm, which is the maximum lifting speed of a 50 tons crane in the waste treatment facility converted to the drop height. Drop orientation of the containers was considered for bottom-end on drop. The impact acceleration and strain data were obtained to verify the reliability of the analysis results. Before and after the drop tests, measurement of the dose rate and the radiographic testing for concrete wall, and measurement of the wall thickness of steel plate were conducted to evaluate the radiation shielding integrity. Also, measurement of bolt torque, and visual inspection were conducted to evaluate the loss or dispersion of radioactive contents. After the drop tests, the radiation dose rate on the container surface did not increase by more than 20%, and there was no crack in the concrete. In addition, the thickness of the steel plate did not change within the measurement error. Therefore, the radiation shielding integrity of the container was maintained. After the drop tests, the lid bolts were not damaged and there was no loss of pretension in the lid bolts. In addition, there was no loss or dispersion of the contents as a result of visual inspection. In order to prove the reliability of the drop analysis results, safety verifications were performed using the drop test results, and the appropriate conservatism for the analysis results and the validity of the analysis model were confirmed. Therefore, the structural integrity of the waste containers was maintained under the drop test conditions.

        This study aimed to examine the changes in dry matter yield and growth characteristics of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) in response to variations in sowing dates during the autumn season of 2021-22 in a dry paddy field of Chilbo-myeon, Jeongeup-si, Jeollabuk-do. Treatments comprised four sowing dates at 10-day intervals, i.e., October 8, October 18, October 28, and November 8, 2021. The winter survival rate of alfalfa showed a significant difference between different treatments but was at a satisfactory level for all (p<0.05). The winter survival rate for the fourth sowing date, a month later than the first sowing date, was approximately 11.7% lower than that for the first sowing date. The plant height ranged between 82.3–93.1 cm and 60.5–63.7 cm at the first and second harvest, respectively, smaller at the second harvest than at the first harvest. The total dry matter yield of alfalfa was the highest at 13,316 kg/ha for the first sowing date, and the later the sowing date, the lower the dry matter yield. The protein content of alfalfa ranged between 13.6–17.3% in the first harvest, lower than the standard alfalfa protein content of 20% or more. In relative feed value, the first sowing (Oct. 8) was the most significantly higher in the first harvest (p<0.05). These results suggest that the early and mid-October sowing dates are optimum for sowing alfalfa during autumn and result in improved plant growth, dry matter yield, protein content, and winter survival compared to those at later sowing dates. Therefore, dry paddy fields can be safely employed for alfalfa cultivation with sowing dates in early and mid-October during autumn.

        The quality characteristics and antioxidant activity of Tteokbokkidduk alone or supplemented with 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12% wheat bran powder were assessed, to increase use of the wheat bran by-product of wheat milling. The moisture content, pH, and starch elution of Tteokbokkidduk increased with increasing wheat bran powder, while the water absorption rate did not. The L color value decreased and the a and b values increased with increasing wheat bran powder. Scanning electron microscopy of Tteokbokkidduk prepared with 0% and 3% wheat bran powder revealed uniform pore size distribution. In terms of texture profile analysis, hardness and chewiness increased, while cohesiveness decreased with increased content of wheat bran powder. Acceptance was highest for samples with 6% wheat bran powder. Quantitative description analysis (QDA) revealed increased brownness, roughness, nutty, bitterness, astringency, savory character, and hardness, and decreased adhesiveness, springiness, and chewiness with increased wheat bran powder. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed highest overall acceptance of samples prepared with 6% wheat bran powder, reflecting the relatively low values of detrimental sensory characteristics. Antioxidant activities of Tteokbokkidduk increased as wheat bran powder content increased. The addition of 6% wheat bran powder resulted in excellent Tteokbokki in terms of acceptance, quality, and antioxidant activity.

        정원용 아시아틱나리 유전자원 ‘Tiny Dino’, ‘Elite’, ‘Orange Pixie’와 ‘Partner’를 2000년에 수집하여 2014년까지 ‘Tiny Dino’ 와 ‘Orange Pixie’의 교배조합에서 선발한 모계(L2-3-4)와 ‘Elite’ 와 ‘Partner’의 교배조합에서 선발한 부계(L2-9-6)를 6차례 자가 수분(S6)하여 선발하였다. 이들을 2014년에 교잡하여 채종한 것에서 유래된 구근을 노지재배 하였고, 이것의 생육 및 개화 특성을 바탕으로 2016년에 아시아틱나리 ‘Orange LiA’를 선발하였다. 정원용 아시아틱나리 일대잡종 ‘Orange LiA’은 주황색의 사발모양의 홑꽃으로 반점이 적고 반점의 색은 자주갈색이다. 식물체 당 개화수가 4.2개로 많은 편이며, 화경이 15.1cm로 중간 정도이고 꽃차례 형태는 총상꽃차례로 개화 방향은 상향이다. 초장은 30.5cm이고, 잎의 수는 23.4개이고, 잎의 길이는 8.1cm이며, 잎의 폭은 1.8cm이다. 일대 잡종 ‘Orange LiA’은 대조품종인 ‘Tiny Dino’ 보다 초장이 짧고 일찍 개화되며 월동이 가능하므로 정원용으로 선호도가 우수하다. 또한 이 품종은 양친을 순계화하여 육성하였기 때문에 품종의 재현이 가능하다.

        Porcine parvovirus 2 (PPV2) was recently detected in the Republic of Korea. This paper reports two near-complete genome sequences of PPV2 identified for the first time in the lung tissue of aborted pig fetuses.
