Recently, defects that occurred during the construction of apartment houses have become a social issue. Defects in apartment houses lead to waste of resources and economic loss, causing psychological and physical damage to customers, and a decrease in reliability and financial loss to construction companies. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of defect occurrence according to the difference in project management level in the apartment housing construction stage, and to investigate the extent to which the project manager's experience affects the defect occurrence rate. For the empirical analysis of the study, statistical analysis was conducted using data collected from 130 actual projects. The results of the analysis showed that schedule management, cost management, and quality management had a positive effect on reducing the defect occurrence rate in the execution stage of apartment housing construction, while human resource management productivity had a negative effect. This study theoretically demonstrated the importance of project management, and in practice, showed that schedule management, cost management, and quality management should be faithfully performed in the execution stage to reduce the rate of defects after project completion. It was also suggested that hiring an experienced project manager would help reduce project defects.

Recently, carbon composites have been applied to various fields. However, carbon composites have not been applied to the fishing vessel field due to its structure standards centered on glass composites. In this study, a structural strength evaluation study was conducted for the application of carbon composites in the fishing vessel field. Hull minimum thickness verification test and hull joint verification test were conducted. Compared to glass composites, the verification was based on equivalent or better performance. The results show that carbon composites can reduce the weight by 20% compared to glass composites. For hull joints, it was necessary to increase the thickness of the joint seam by the thickness of the hull to apply carbon composite. Through this study, a standard for the application of carbon composites to fishing vessel can be established.

Background: Falls are a common and serious problem in the elderly population. Muscle strength and balance are important factors in the prevention of falls. The Y-balance test (YBT) is used to assess dynamic postural control and shows excellent test-retest reliability. However, no studies have examined the relationship between lower-limb strength and YBT scores in elderly women. Objects: This study aimed to examine the relationship between lower-limb strength and YBT scores in elderly women. Methods: Thirty community-dwelling elderly women participated in the study. Lower-limb strength including hip flexor, hip extensor, hip abductor (HAB), hip adductor (HAD), knee flexor, knee extensor, ankle dorsiflexor, and ankle plantar flexor (PF) muscles was examined using a smart KEMA strength sensor (KOREATECH Inc.), and the YBT was used to assess dynamic balance. Relationship between lower-limb strength and YBT was demonstrated using a Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Results: HAB strength (r = 0.388, p < 0.05), HAD strength (r = 0.362, p < 0.05), and ankle PF strength (r = 0.391, p < 0.05) positively correlated with the YBT-anterior direction distance. Ankle PF strength was positively correlated with the YBT-posteromedial direction distance (r = 0.396, p < 0.05) and composite score (r = 0.376, p < 0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that HAB, HAD, and ankle PF strengths should be considered for dynamic postural control in elderly women.

Technosignature, previously known as SETI(search for extraterrestrial intelligence), is the scienti c evidence of past or present extraterrestrial civilizations. Since NRAO's Project Ozma was performed in 1960, most of the noticeable technosignature searches have been done by radio telescopes, hoping to find strong and narrow bandwidth signals that cannot be explained by known natural processes. Recently, the Breakthrough Listen project has opened a new opportunity for technosignature by utilizing both optical telescopes, radio telescopes, and next-generation radio telescope arrays. In this review, mainly based on NASA Technosignatures Workshop (2018), we review the current trends of technosignature surveys, as well as other possible methods for detecting technosignature. Also, we suggest what the Korean community could contribute the technosignature research, including the new SETI project with Korea VLBI Network (KVN).

Since the farside of the moon is a place to avoid arti cial radio frequency interference (RFI) created byhuman civilization, it is a most suitable place for searching technosignature, which are signs of technolog-ical civilization in the universe, in the radio band. The RFI is a factor that makes the study of searchingtechnosignature quite complicated because it is di cult to distinguish between technological signals pro-duced by human and extraterrestrial civilizations. In this paper, we review why the farside of the moon isthe best place to detect technosignature and also introduce radio observatories on the farside of the moonthat have been proposed in radio astronomy. The SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) projecton the farside of the moon is expected to be one of the main candidates for international collaborationresearch topics on lunar surface observatory.

To improve the quality of jujube (Zizyphus jujuba Miller var. hoonensis), which is a fruit of health functional, the effect of polyphenol preparation treatment on the fruit characteristics of two cultivars (cv. Bokjo and cv. Sangwang) of jujube was investigated. There was no difference in the height and breast diameter of jujubes tested between the polyphenol treatments and non treatment. Jujube trees treated with polyphenol preparation produced significantly more fruit than untreated in both cultivars. In cvultivar of Bokjo, the polyphenol preparation treatment increased the fruit's fresh weight and dry weight more than two times, respectively, compared to the untreated treatment. Polyphenol preparation tr eatments also changed the leaf characteristics of jujube trees. In the polyphenol-treated trees, leaf thickness tended to be thickest at the top and thinnest at the bottom. Polyphenol preparation treated jujube trees showed no difference in chlorophyll content. Moisture content was slightly higher in the untreatment than in the treatments. Visually, the polyphenol preparation treatment had a dark green color. Jujubes treated with polyphenol preparations showed differences in polyphenol content in fruits. The polyphenol content in both peel and flesh of the treatments were much higher than that of the untreatment. Reducing sugar was contained more in the peel than in the flesh and was higher in the untreatment than in the polyphenol preparation treatments. Treatment with polyphenol preparation showed differences in fruit appearance. As described above, it was found that the treatment of polyphenol preparation changed the leaves, fruit shapes and components of jujube trees. In particular, jujubes treated with polyphenol preparations are expected to contribute significantly to eco-friendly and highly functional jujube cultivation, as they appear to produce many fruits and increase the content of polyphenols and sugars.

Confirmation of the thermal behavior of spent fuel is one of the important points in the management of high-level radioactive waste. This is because various fission products exist in spent nuclear fuel, and a management plan according to their behavior is required. Among the fission products, epsilon particles exist in the form of metal deposits and have a great influence on their physical and chemical properties. However, observing the thermal behavior of epsilon particles is important for understanding spent fuel behavior in thermally environment, but it is difficult to maintain a consistent thermal environment. In this work, we report the thermal behaviors study of uranium oxide with epsilon particle using in situ high temperature X-ray diffraction. We measured the variation of temperature on the size of crystalline, which is a cell parameter in the reaction process. And then, the change of lattice parameters is calculated by Rietveld refinement.

Zirconium(Zr) alloys are commonly used in the nuclear industry for applications such as fuel cladding and pressure tubes. To minimize the levels and volumes of radioactive waste, molten salts have been employed for decontaminating Zr alloys. Recently, a two-step Zr metal recovery process, combining electrolysis and thermal decomposition, has been proposed. In the electrolysis process, potentiostatic electrorefining is utilized to control the chemical form of electrodeposits(ZrCl). Although Zr metals are expected to dissolve into molten salts, reductive alloy elements can also be co-dissolved and deposited on the cathode. Therefore, a better understanding of the anodic side’s response during potentiostatic electrorefining is necessary to ensure the purity of recovered Zr and long-term process operation. As the first step, potentiodynamic polarization curves were obtained using Zr, Nb, and Zr-Nb alloy to investigate the anodic dissolution behavior in the molten salts. Nb, which has a redox potential close to Zr, and Zr exhibit active or passivation dissolution mechanisms depending on the potential range. It was confirmed that Zr-Nb alloy also has a passivation region between -0.223 to -0.092 V influenced by the major elements Zr and Nb. Secondly, active dissolution of Zr-Nb was performed in the range of -0.9 to -0.6 V. The dissolution mechanism can be explained by percolation theory, which is consistent with the observed microstructure of the alloy. Thirdly, passivation dissolution of Zr, Nb, and Zr-Nb alloy was investigated to identify the pure passivation products and additional products in the Zr-Nb alloy case. K2ZrCl6 and K3NbCl6 were identified as the pure passivation products of the major elements. In the Zr-Nb alloy case, additional products, such as Nb and NbZr, produced by the redox reaction of nanoparticles in the high viscous salt layer near the anode, were also confirmed. The anodic dissolution mechanism of Zr-Nb alloy can be summarized as follows. During active dissolution, only Zr metal dissolves into molten salts by percolation. Above the solubility near the anode, passivation products begin to form. The anode potential increases due to the disturbance of passivation products on ion flow, leading to co-dissolution of Nb. When the concentration of Nb ion exceeds the solubility, a passivation product of Nb also forms. In this scenario, a high viscous salt layer is formed, which traps nanoparticles of Zr metal, resulting in redox behavior between Zr metal and Nb ion. Some nanoparticles of Zr and Nb metal are also present in the form of NbZr.

The organic complexing agents such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA), and isosaccharinic acid (ISA) can enhance the radionuclides’ solubility and have the potential to induce the acceleration of radionuclides’ mobility to a far-field from the radioactive waste repository. Hence, it is essential to evaluate the effect of organic complexing agents on radionuclide solubility through experimental analysis under similar conditions to those at the radioactive waste disposal site. In this study, five radionuclides (cesium, cobalt, strontium, iodine, and uranium) and three organic complexing agents (EDTA, NTA, and ISA) were selected as model substances. To simulate environmental conditions, the groundwater was collected near the repository and applied for solubility experiments. The solubility experiments were carried out under various ranges of pHs (7, 9, 11, and 13), temperatures (10°C, 20°C, and 40°C), and concentrations of organic complexing agents (0, 10-5, 10-4, 10-3, and 10-2 M). Experimental results showed that the presence of organic complexing agents significantly increased the solubility of the radionuclides. Cobalt and strontium had high solubility enhancement factors, even at low concentrations of organic complexing agents. We also developed a support vector machine (SVM) model using some of the experimental data and validated it using the rest of the solubility data. The root mean square error (RMSE) in the training and validation sets was 0.012 and 0.016, respectively. The SVM model allowed us to estimate the solubility value under untested conditions (e.g., pH 12, temperature 30°C, ISA 5×10-4 M). Therefore, our experimental solubility data and the SVM model can be used to predict radionuclide solubility and solubility enhancement by organic complexing agents under various conditions.
