        본 연구에서는 낙동강 수계 8개의 보 구간에서 퇴적물의 변화에 대하여 알아보았다. 보 구간의 퇴적물을 채취하여 유기물, 영양염류, 금속류 항목을 분석하였으며, 시간의 흐름에 따른 변화를 알아보았다. 보를 기준으로 상류부에는 퇴적물이 세립해지거나 세립한 퇴적물이 증가와 감소를 반복하는 것으로 나타났으며, 하류부에서 조립한 퇴적물을 유지하는 것으로 나타났다. 퇴적물의 유기물 및 영양염류는 입도와 강한 상관성을 보이고 있으며, 조립한 상태를 유지하는 지점보다 퇴적물이 세립해지는 지점에서 증가하였다. 유기물과 영양염류의 농도가 증가하는 지점이 있었으나 하천·호소 퇴적물 오염평가 기준의 기준치를 넘는 지점이 없어 유기물, 영 양염류에 대하여 오염 정도가 미약한 상태로 보인다. 금속류의 경우 전반적으로 농도가 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며, 입도 및 유기물, 영양염류와 상관성이 미약하였다. 일부 금속이 독성이 나타날 가능성이 있는 II등급에 속하는 지점이 있으나 I등급과 농도 차이가 많지 않으며 대부분의 금속이 I등급 을 유지하여 금속류에 대한 오염정도는 미약한 것으로 판단 된다. 본 연구결과가 낙동강 수계의 퇴적물 변화를 모두 대표 할 수는 없지만 보 구간의 퇴적물 변화 특성을 이해하는 자료로 활용이 가능할 것으로 생각되며, 향후 독성평가를 진행 하거나 보 구간에서 입도와 금속류의 분포 및 상관관계에 대한 지속적인 연구가 진행되어야 할 것으로 보인다.

        본 연구에서는 낙동강 수계에서 강우, 유량 등 유역환경 의 변화가 퇴적환경 특성에 미치는 영향을 알아보았다. 강 정고령보의 상류 구간에서 장마 기간 이후 퇴적물의 입도 분포가 세립해지며, 유기물질 및 영양염류의 농도가 다소 증가하는 경향이 나타났다. 장마 기간 동안 증가한 유량에 의해 부유물질, 유기물질 등이 공급된 후 인공구조물로 인한 유수의 일시적인 정체로 퇴적이 진행된 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구의 결과가 낙동강 수계 모든 지역의 퇴적환경을 지시할 수는 없지만 보와 같은 인공구조물이 설치된 지역 인접한 구간에서의 퇴적물 성상 변화를 이해하는 자료로서 활용이 가능할 것으로 생각된다. 또한, 변화하는 수계의 환 경에 따라 퇴적물 내의 유기물 및 영양염류 등이 수계에서 내부오염원으로 작용하지 않도록 향후 지속적인 모니터링과 연구가 이루어져야 할 것으로 사료된다.

        In the Geumho River, 4-nitrophenol has been detected, thus it is necessary to investigate the contamination sources in order to prevent the release of this compound. However, the research to estimate the potential source is regarded as complicated research. In this study, the distributions of 4-nitrophenol were simulated and the contribution of the potential sources was estimated using a numerical model(HydroGeoSphere; HGS) and the measuring data of 4-nitrophenol from 2013 to 2017. The altitude data, the land cover data, the flow rates of the tributaries and wastewater treatment plants, and the decay rate of 4-nitrophenol was used as the input data. The results of this research showed that the contribution rates of potential contamination sources in the upstream area were higher than that of the downstream area. Most of the upstream area is the agricultural area, it seemed that 4-nitrophenol was originated from the pesticides. In order to achieve more specific location of sources, an intensive investigation in the upstream is required.

        To evaluate the geochemical characteristics and assess the pollution in surface sediments of the Nakdong River estuary, two sites adjacent to the estuary bank (Hh1 and Hh2) and one site at the upper part of the estuary bank (Hh3) were investigated. The surface sediments were analyzed for their contents of metals (Cu, Pb, Ni, Cr, Zn, and Al), organic matter (IL, COD, TOC, and TN), and grain size from 2018 to 2020. As a result of the pollution assessment, there was little anthropogenic contamination by most of the metals. The surface sediments in Hh2 had comparatively abundant silt and clay, whereas the other sites were mainly composed of sand. The organic index and contents of organic matter were highest at Hh2. Multivariate statistical analyses (cluster analysis and Pearson correlation analysis) showed that the contents of organic matter and pollution were associated with fine sediment. These results suggest that the geochemical characteristics were changed by the estuary bank built in the research area and that the increase in fine sediment attributable to the low-energy environment resulted in an increase in organic matter pollution.

        We investigated the spatial and temporal variation in characteristics and pollution assessment of sediments in the watersheds of Andong-Dam and Imha-Dam, in Korea. Surface sediments were collected from six sites once a year for three years (2015-2017), and analyzed for organic matter (water content, IL, COD, TOC, TN, and TP), grain size, and concentration of trace metals (Al, Li, Zn, Cr, Pb, Cu, Ni, and As). Organic matter generally tended to increase, and was higher in the Andong watershed compare to Imha watershed. Surface sediments were mainly composed of silt. Coarse sediments were mainly distributed at the site adjacent to Andong-Dam, and showed fining after coarsening. Fine sediment were mainly distributed at the site adjacent to Imha-Dam, and were gradually coarsening. Concentration of trace metals generally tended to increase, and was higher for sites in watershed of Andong watershed (PLI > 1) than for sites in Imha watershed (PLI < 1). Trace metals in the study area were considered to be affected by fine sediment (silt), and contamination of trace metals was somewhat affected by Pb, and greatly affected by Zn and As.

        To investigate the distribution characteristics of grain size and organic matter of surface sediments from the Nakdong-Goryeong Mid-watershed, surface sediments were collected and analyzed. The samples were collected from six sited at four different times between May 2013 and May 2014. The were analyzed for grain size, water content, ignition loss, chemical oxygen demand, total organic carbon and total nitrogen. The surface sediments were mainly composed of medium sand (mean 44.7%) and coarse sand (mean 32.8%) and became coarser in May 2014. Fine sediments at the site NG-2 were poorly sorted and positively skewed, and occur in a tributary environment that is relatively low-energy compared with the other sites. The water content at the studied sites (15.3 ~ 34.9%) averaged 20.25%, and ignition loss (0.4 ~ 5.8%) and total nitrogen (274 ~ 2493 mg/kg) averaged 1.33% and, 696 mg/kg, respectively. These values indicated that the sediments were not seriously contaminated when compared with the sediment pollution evaluation standard of the National Institute of Environmental Research. The chemical oxygen demand (mean 0.17%) was at the non-polluted level compared with United States Environmental Protection Agency sediment quality standards. The total organic carbon (mean 0.18%) at all sites except site NG-2 (lowest effect level) was the no effect level of the Ontario sediment quality guidelines. The COD/IL (0.02 ~ 0.20) and C/N (0.73 ~ 6.76) were less than 1 and 10, respectively. Organic matter in the study area produced naturally from aquatic organisms. Results of principal component analysis showed that fine sediments (very fine sand and silt) were significantly affected by organic matters (ignition loss, chemical oxygen demand, total organic carbon and total nitrogen). In addition, the highest organic matters content in the study area occurred at the site with the finest sediments (NG-2).

        Multifunctional weirs constructed through the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project are operated as management water levels. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of water level in the main stem on the tributary water level according to multifunctional weir operation, because the operation of multifunctional weirs for water level management influences the drainage of tributaries. In this study, water level pressure gauges were installed and spatial and temporal water quality was observed. The LOcally Weighted Scatterplot Smoothing (LOWESS) technique was applied to the Nakdong River and the Baekcheon Junction, both upstream of the Gangjeong-Goryeong weir, in order to analyze water quality trends. When considering the overall analysis and observations, it was found that the water quality forecasting point located at the Baekcheon estuary point should be transferred to the Dosung Bridge, which is located upstream of the Sunwon Bridge.

        As part of the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project, multifunctional weirs have been constructed in the rivers and operated for river-level management. As the weirs play a role in draining water from tributaries, the aim of this study was to determine the influence of the weirs on the water level of the Nam River, which is one of the Nakdong River’s tributaries. Self-organizing maps (SOMs) and a locally weighted scatterplot smoothing (LOWESS) technique were applied to analyze the patterns and trends of water level and quality of the Nakdong River, considering the operation of the Changnyeong-Haman weir, which is located where the Nam River flows into the Nakdong River. The software program HEC-RAS was used to find the boundary points where the water is well drained. Per the study results at the monitoring points ranging between the junction of the two rivers and 17.5 km upstream toward the Nam River, the multifunctional weir influenced the water level at the Geoyrong and Daesan observation stations on the Nam River and the water quality based on automatic monitoring at the Chilseo station on the Nakdong River was affected strongly by the Nakdong River and partly by the Nam River.

        Recently IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change, 2007) pointed out that global warming is a certain ongoing process on the earth, due to which water resources management is becoming one of the most difficult tasks with the frequent occurrences of extreme floods and droughts. In this study we made runoff predictions for several control points in the Geum River by using the watershed runoff model, SSARR (Streamflow Synthesis and Reservoir Regulation Model), with daily RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 scenarios for 100 year from 1st Jan 2006 to 31st Dec 2100 at the resolution of 1 km given by Climate Change Information Center. As a result of, the Geum River Basin is predicted to be a constant flow increases, and it showed a variation in the water circulation system. Thus, it was found that the different seasonality occurred.

        To certificate change in the geochemical characteristics of surface sediments in the main stream of the Nakdong River, surface sediments from 12 sampling sites during the first and second half year (total 24 sampling sites) were collected and analyzed for grain size, ignition loss, total organic carbon and heavy metal content. Surface sediments mainly composed of sand (coarse and medium sand) and fining changed from the first half to the second half of the year. Ignition loss, total organic carbon and heavy metals content increased in the second half of the year. Some heavy metals (Zn, Ni and Cu) were found to be at the lowest effect levels according to Ontario sediment quality guidelines. Additionally, most heavy metals were found to be at the non polluted level and level I according to USEPA sediment quality standards and National Institute of Environmental Research sediment pollution evaluation standard, respectively. The enrichment factor (< 1) and index of geoaccmulation (< 0) were non polluted in the study area. The correlation analysis results showed that ignition loss, total organic carbon and heavy metal content were highly correlated with grain size. Regarding changes in geochemical characteristics of surface sediments in the study area, grain size fine and organic matter and heavy metal content increased in the second half year. Nonetheless these results indicated pollution levels that did not adversely affect the benthos.

        For areas with the diverse contamination sources, the change of 4-nitrophenol contamination and impact of potential contamination sources have been evaluated using monitoring data and a numerical model (HydroGeoSphere). The model considered several parameters including land cover, precipitation, and flow rate. And, the model has been performed to investigate the effect of decay rate of 4-nitrophenol. The results of the simulations showed that the influence on 4-nitrophenol in downstream was mainly greater than that in upstream, and the tributaries did not significantly affect the mainstream because of their low flow rates. In addition, the effect of contamination sources was simulated for each section, then the measured data were higher than the corresponding simulated data in most sections of the Geumho river. In particular, the impact of the potential contamination sources in the upstream area was much higher than that in the other area, thus more monitoring data for the upstream area is required.

        This study was performed to analyze the effects of a water circulation green area plan on non-point source pollution in Gimhae South Korea. A quantitative analysis of Arc-GIS data was conducted by applying a watershed model based on Fortran to investigate the changes to direct runoff and pollution load. Results showed that prior to the implementation of the water circulation green area plan in Gimhae, direct runoff was 444.05 m3/year, total biological oxygen demand (BOD) pollution load was 21,696 kg/year, and total phosphorus (TP) pollution load was 1,743 kg/year. Implementation of the development plan was found to reduce direct runoff by 2.27%, BOD pollution load by 1.16% and TP pollution load by 0.19% annually. The reduction in direct runoff and non-point source pollution were attributed to improvements in the design of impermeable layers within the city.

        In this study, we analyzed on-site monitoring data for 15 tributaries in Geumho watersheds for 3 years (2011-2013) in order to sort out priorities on water quality characteristics and improvement. As a result of estimating contribution to contamination of the tributary rivers, Dalseocheon showed the highest load densities, despite the smallest watershed area, with 22.7% BOD5, 30.7% CODMn, 31.3% TOC and 47.6% TP. After conducting PCA (principal component analysis) and FA (factor analysis) to analyze water quality characteristics of the tributary rivers, the first factor was classified as CODMn, TOC, EC, TP and BOD5, the second factor as pH, Chl-a and DO, the third factor as water temperature and TN, and the fourth factor as SS and surface flow. In addition, arithmetical sum of each factor’s scores based on grading criteria revealed that Dalseocheon and Namcheon were classified into Group A for their highest scores - 96 and 93, respectively -, and selected as rivers that require water environmental management measures the most. Also, water environmental contamination inspection showed that Palgeocheon had the most number of aquatic factors to be controlled: BOD5, CODMn, SS, TOC, T-P, Chl-a, etc.

        In this study, how branches of Kumho River affect to the water quality on Kumho River was investigated. Water samples from six sampling points at Kumho River and three at each branch were taken from Dec. 2009 to Dec. 2011. As results, Namcheon affected BOD and T-P concentrations on Kumho River while Sincheon did only T-P concentrations. However, the water quality of Kumho River was improved because of Sincheon in terms of BOD and COD concentrations. This was the results from management of Sincheon wastewater treatment facility and Jisan wastewater treatment facility which might be the best example for managing wastewater treatment facilities. Dalsecheon would not affect the water quality of Kumho River although it had bad conditions of water quality because of lack of its water quantity comparing to Kumho River’s.
