Background : Ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) is one of the most important medicinal plants in Korea, but its yields are often reduced by a variety of root pathogens. The root rot of ginseng is a destructive soil-borne disease caused by Cylindrocarpon destructans (teleomorph: Ilyonectria radicicola). To monitor contamination with C. destructans in ginseng harvested in 2015 were sampled from 57 different growing fields. The spore number of C. destructans was quantified by use of a specific primers and selective media (radicicol) in soils of ginseng fields. Methods and Results : The ginseng samples were surface-sterilized and placed on potato dextrose agar plates for 7 day incubation at 20℃. Emerging fungal colonies were counted primarily based on colony and conidia morphology. Further species level identification was confirmed by ITS rDNA sequencing. For quantification of the soil-borne C. destructans, the genomic DNA was extracted from the soil using a NucleoSpin soil kit (MN, Germany). Density of C. destructans was determined by species specific real time PCR (qPCR). The qPCR was completed by running a melting curve analysis. Conclusion : The C. destructans associated with root rot disease of ginseng were detected in more than 60% in pyeongtaek-1, pochenon-1, jecheon-1, chungju-1 and jinan-4. As results of the study, the correlation between pathogen density and identification clearly clarified in the soil.

The aim of this paper is to compare the characteristics of the T-P removal from synthesized municipal wastewater by electro-coagulation using cylindrical Al and Fe electrode as anode. For this purpose, a concentric circle type electrolysis reactor was used and the operating conditions for T-P removal from synthesized wastewater are as follows; potential 10 V, electrolyte 0.03% NaCl, initial T-P concentration 1.0 ~ 6.0 mg/L and flow rate 1.0 ~ 5.0 L/min. From the experimental results, T-P concentration of treated wastewater was decreased to less than 0.2 mg/L enough to discharge standard and Al electrode showed performance than Fe electrode for T-P removal by electro-coagulation. Optimal conditions for T-P removal to less than 0.15 mg/L which is 75% of discharge standard for large scale municipal wastewater plant (capacity higher than 500 m3/day) were obtained as follows; flow rate 2.503 L/min, and 2.337 L/min, HRT 1.059 min, 1.134 min, for Al and Fe electrode, respectively. Consumed mass of Al and Fe were of 3.76 times and 8.90 times respectively, were obtained to removed T-P at optimal conditions with potential 10 V, and 0.03% NaCl as electrolyte.

To study the cause of physiological disorder in leaf of ginseng cultivated at paddy soil, the degree of brown-colored symptom (BCS) and the contents of inorganic matter in leaf were investigated by irrigating the solution of ferric andferrous iron of 0.1~2.0%, and citric acid of 1.0~4.0% on bed soil, respectively. Ratio of BCS by variety was as high as85.0% in Yoenpoong, while it was as low as 5.4%, 7.5% in Chunpoong and Hwangsook, respectively. The contents ofinorganic matter of leaf in Yoenpoong were lower in P₂O5, Ca, and Mg, while it were higher in K, Fe, and Mn than othervariety. Iron solution caused BCS more distinctly when each ferric and ferrous iron were dissolved with 1.0% citric acidthan when each iron was dissolved without citric acid. Ferric iron caused BCS more effectively than ferrous iron. BCSoccurred in 4.0% citric acid was as same as 2.0% ferric iron mixed with 1.0% citric acid. Low P₂O5 and high Fe content inleaf appeared in both of artificial and natural symptoms. We concluded that excessive Fe uptake caused BCS to leaf becausethe solubility of iron was increased in condition of low soil pH.
