        Microwave absorbers for X-Band RADAR have been designed and fabricated trialy both in sheet and paint types, as a result of which the relative bandwidth of nearly 8% in both cases has been obtained under the tolerance limits of the reflection coefficients lower than -20dB. The matching thickness becomes 1.36 to 1.56mm which is significantly thinner than that of the conventional ones. Furthermore, it was shown that the microwave absorbing characteristics vary in accordance with the density and the mixing ratios of the materials constituting absorbs.

        Nowadays Hyperbolic Navigation System-LORAN, DECCA, OMEGA, OMEGA-is available on the ocean, and Spherical Navigation System, GPS (Global Positioning System) is operated partially. Hyperbolic Navigation System has the blind area near the base line extention because divergence rate of hyperbola is infinite theoretically. The Position Accuracy is differ from the cross angle of LOP although each LOP has the same error of quantity. GDOP(Geometric Dilution of Precisoin) is used to estimate the position accuracy according to the cross angle of LOP and LOP error. Hyperbola and ellipse are crossed at right angle everywhere. Hyperbola and ellipse are used to LOP in Rectangular Navigation System. The equation calculating the GDOP of rectangular Navigation System is induced and GDOP diagram is completed in this paper. A scheme that can improve the position accuracy in the blind area of Hyperboic Navigation System using the Rectangular Navigation System is proposed through the computer simulation.

        In this paper, the equations calculating GDOP are induced in Hyperboic, and Spherical Navigation System, respectively, The GDOP diagram shows that the DGOP in the inner region of Beacons is similar each other, but the GDOP of Hyperboic Navigation System is much larger than that of Spherical Navigation System due to GDOP in the outer region of Beacons. The authors propose the algorithm estimating the pulse starting time using the Hyperboic Navigation System, and prove that if Navigation use the Spherical Navigation System by adopting the proposed Algorithm -in this case, "Pseudo Sperical Navigation System" - in the outer region where GDOP is becoming large, the position errors can be reduced.e reduced.

        This paper describes the design theory of a weakly-coupled Tap-off with high density of coupling intervals for CATV and/or MATV systems, by which the degree of freedom in design and density of coupling intervals are significantly increased compared with the intrinsic one. It is also described how to construct the two-way divider (Tap-off) in the generalized type. Furthermore, the practical measurements of the frequency characteristics for a fabricated circuit show very good agreements with theoretical results.

        Abroad-band design method of a lumped-element 3 dB quadrature hybrid without magnetic coupling is proposed and discussed, where techniques of cascading fundamental hybrids via second-order delay equializers and adding matching sections are adopted. It is shown that the designed broad-band lumped-element 3 dB quadrature hybrid can be easily constructed and its bandwidth reaches up to 54%. Furthermore, the experiments have been carried out, the results of which agree with the theoretical ones, and hence, the validity of the broad-band design method proposed here was confirmed.

        In Korea, the importance of keeping the see transportation facilities and well-trained maritime officers cannot be overemphasized, because of her geographical location and the national security in terms of both political and economical situations. In this paper, some points are suggested for the development of the nautical education in Korea Maritime University: (1) the strict regimental training should be kept as a vital important part of students life and its program should be designed to provide students with leadership training and experience, and to develope in the qualities of responsibilities for good citizenship and self-discipline to overcome hardwork for careers as leaders in Korea maritime industry. And therefore the dormitory and training vessel as essential parts of the educational facilities should be improved both in quality and quantity, (2) the undergraduate course should be extended to more than 5 years so that accredited baccalaureate curriculum and licensing professional education might be well conducted to meet the requirements to cope with the international competition in the facet of seafarers quality, (3) more enlarging the opportunities of incentive payments for students is required so that better qualified applicants can be admitted, (4) finally, a conjugal maritime officer service system should be put into practice in the foresseable furture so that seafarers might live normal family lives while staying at sea.

        The NAVSTAR/GPS is a satellite-based navigation system that will provide extremely accurate three-dimensional position and velocity information to users anywhere on or near the earth. This system has been studied primarly for military use and thus the results of studies are seldom obtainable for civilian use up to date. Expecting this system to be opened to civilian use in the future, this paper aims to the collection of basic data of the PN phase modulated communication system adopted in the GPS system by computer simulation. The results of studies are as follows; 1) The PN phase modulation of the speed of 106b/s can be simulated by Fourier summation, the spectrum region which can be restricted is in the region of 0.5-1.5 MHz and spectrum number required is over than 270. 2) By computer simulation, it is verified that optimum r.f filter bandwidth is about 0.3 MHz for the case of 106b/s PN codes phase modulated in 1.575GHz carrier. 3) In case that PN rate to data rate is between 10 and 100, the allowable minimum SNR to demodulate data signal correctly by optimum LPF is about 0.3. It is also verified that the larger the frequency ratio of PN code to the data code, the lower the allowable minimum SNR required.

        In this paper, author studied on the elementary data required for the design of the receiver of Pseudo Noise (PN) phase modulation communication adopted in Global Positioning System(GPS). By computer simulation technique, the phase modulator, filters, and PN generator are designed, and also required bandwidth of R-F amplifier for carrier frequency in phase modulation system is investigated. It is verified that the optimum bandwidth is about 3 times of the PN frequency and almost independent of the carrier frequency. And the low pass filter required for demodulation of slow Boolean data is also found to be about 60 times of the data signal frequency.

        A doppler log is the typical device which can measure the ship's speed over the ground directly, by means of doppler effect of the underwater ultrasonic wave, which involves the error due to the sea bottom inclination, the trim and the incorrect transducer installation etc. The present doppler log adopts a single transducer, faced in the direction of themain beam, and therefore it is unable to correct the beam direction to eliminate the above mentioned error. Moreover, the frequencyis also limitted in a comparatively high range for getting a sharp beam with single transducer, and the speed over the ground can not be detectable at the deep sea, for an instance, over 200 meters. This paper describes a theoretical consideration for the doppler log error and an analysis by a computer on the observed speed data by a full size model ship. The result is verified that the most of doppler log error is caused by the ultrasonic beam angle of transducer. To eliminate the doppler log error due to the incorrect transducer installation and also to sharpen the beam for lower frequency range to expand measurable sea depth, this paper proposes a method of controlling the directivity adopting a linear transducer array and of controlling the directivity by the control of exciting current, and investigates by the computer simulation and make experiment with magnetostrictive ferrite transducer of 28, 50 and 75KHz. The experimental results are shown well coincide with the measured ones, and they are revealed that in case where the transducer interval is greater than 1 wavelength, the effective control of the beam direction is hardly performed with keeping adequate beam width and side lobe level. It is concluded that 6-elements array with inter element space of a half wavelength can make comparatively sharp beam and low side lobe level. The results obtained here will contribute very much to the improvement of the performance of doppler log.
