Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a very deadly and highly contagious disease that occurs in various cloven-hoofed animals. Korea imports vaccines including non-vaccinated serotype for the vaccine bank. The two company vaccines imported from 2019 to 2021 were evaluated through multiple tests based on national standard assay. SN titers for the vaccine of company A were more than 1.5 log10, those of company B vaccine in the geometric mean were at least 1.72. All imported vaccines exceeded the evaluation criteria, and the potency of each vaccine was above its own company standard. Stockpiled vaccines for emergency may help to control non-vaccinated serotypes of FMD outbreak nationally.
본 연구는 기상청 현업모델(LDAPS)로부터 예측된 서울의 도시열섬 강도와 지상 기온을 AWS 관측과 비교 평가하였다. 관측된 서울의 열섬 강도는 봄과 겨울동안 증가하며 여름동안 감소한다. 열섬 강도의 시간적 변동 경향은 새벽 시간 최대, 오후에 최소를 보인다. 기상청 국지기상예측시스템(LDAPS)으로부터 예측된 열섬 강도는 여름철 과대모의, 겨울철 과소모의 특징을 보인다. 특히 여름철은 주간에 과대 모의 경향이 증가하며, 겨울은 새벽 시간 과소 모의 오차가 크게 나타난다. LDAPS에서 예측된 지면 기온의 오차는 여름철 감소하며 겨울철 증가한다. 겨울철 열섬 강도의 과소 모의는 도시 기온의 과소 모의와 관련되었으며, 여름철 열섬 강도의 과대 모의는 교외 지역 기온의 과소 모의로부터 기인하는것으로 판단된다. 도시 열섬강도 예측성 개선을 위하여 도시효과를 고려하는 도시캐노피모델을 LDAPS와 결합하여 2017년 여름 기간동안 모의하였다. 도시캐노피모델 적용 후 도시의 지면 기온의 오차는 개선되었다. 특히 오전시간 과소모의되는 기온의 오차 개선 효과가 뚜렷하였다. 도시캐노피모델은 여름동안 과대 모의하는 도시열섬강도를 약화시키는 개선 효과를 보였다.
목적: 이물감 및 자극감을 줄이기 위해 개발한 쉬르머용지의 신뢰도 및 임상적 유용성을 평가하고자 하 였다. 방법: Whatman 용지(#41)를 길이 41 mm, 너비 5 mm, 삽입되는 부분의 폭 3 mm의 스트립 형태로 만 들고 청색 염료가 포함되도록 제작하여 K-쉬르머용지라 명명하였다. 검사법의 신뢰도, 용액의 양과 흡수된 길이의 상관성은 2-10 ㎕의 용액을 1분간 10회씩 흡수시킨 후 평가하였고, 임상 시험의 경우에는 3회 반복 측정하여 평가하였다. 건성안 감별을 위한 민감도 및 특이도 평가는 TBUT 측정값을 기준으로 하여 ROC curve를 이용하여 평가하였다. K-쉬르머용지와 현재 사용되는 쉬르머용지를 비교·평가하기 위해서 시판되 고 있는 Schirmer tear ®(EagleVision Inc., Menphis, TN, USA)를 이용하여 동일한 조건에서 평가하고 비교하였다. 반복측정에 의한 신뢰도는 급내상관계수로 평가하였고, ROC curve는 통계프로그램 Medcalc version 17.5.5(Medcalc Software, Mariakerke, Belgium)를 사용하여 cut-off 값과 곡선아래면적을 정확 도의 지표로 활용하였으며, 유의수준은 p<0.05로 하였다. 결과: K-쉬르머용지와 쉬르머용지 검사법의 신뢰도는 모두 99.9%로 높았고, 용액의 양과 흡수되는 길이 의 상관성 또한 각각 0.982, 0.981로 매우 높았다. 임상검사에서 K-쉬르머검사 결과는 쉬르머검사보다 작 게 측정되었지만(p=0.03), 반복측정에 의한 신뢰도는 66%로 쉬르머검사의 신뢰도 58%에 비하여 높게 측정 되었고, 자극감은 쉬르머검사에 비해 더 작았다(p=0.02). K-쉬르머검사와 쉬르머검사는 상관성을 보였으며 (r=0.59), K-쉬르머검사와 쉬르머검사의 건성안에 대한 민감도와 특이도는 각각 40.35%, 79.07%는 50.88%, 62.79%로 나타났다. 결론: K-쉬르머용지는 신뢰도가 높고 기존의 쉬르머용지에 비해 자극감을 줄일 수 있어 눈물검사도구로 활용 가능할 것으로 판단된다.
Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is the causative agent of enzootic bovine leukosis. This study was conducted to clarify the seroprevalence of BLV in the Republic of Korea. Blood samples were obtained from Korean native cattle farms in all provinces of South Korea except Jeju. A commercial indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with 4,498 samples to detect antibodies against BLV was conducted. The results revealed that the prevalence of BLV was dependent upon age, with increasing prevalence among cattle occurring until they were 5 years old. The highest seroprevalence in cattle was observed in Chungnam (29.6%) and the lowest was observed in Jeonnam (2.6%). The mean overall prevalence for BLV antibodies in the survey was 10.2%, indicating that BLV is widespread nationwide.
목 적: 담배 흡연이 동공크기, 시력, 조절력 및 눈물막에 미치는 급성 및 만성효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 방 법: 성인 남성 중 비흡연자 30명, 흡연자 25명의 지원자를 대상으로 하였다. 흡연의 급성효과를 관찰 하기 위하여 흡연자에게는 0.5 mg의 니코틴이 함유된 동일한 담배 1 개비를 피우도록 하고 흡연 직후 명소 시와 박명시 상태에서 동공크기, 대비시력, 대비감도, 고위수차, 조절력 및 눈물막안정성을 측정하였다. 동 공크기는 동공측정계(VIP™-200 Pupillometer)로, 안구수차는 파면수차계(KR-1W)를 사용하여 4 ㎜ 동공 크기에서 측정하였으며, 100%와 10% 대비시력, 대비감도를 측정하고, 조절력은 Push-up test 검사로, 눈 물막 안정성은 눈물막파괴시간(TBUT)을 측정하여 흡연 전과 비교하였다. 만성효과는 비흡연자와 흡연자의 흡연 전 상태에서 측정한 결과값을 비교하였다. 결 과: 흡연의 급성효과로 동공크기는 조도와 휘도에 상관없이 모두 유의하게 감소하였으며(p<0.05), 명 소시와 박명시에서 측정한 저대비 시력은 유의하게 향상되었다(p<0.05). 대비감도와 고위수차는 차이가 없 었고(p>0.05), 흡연 후 조절력과 TBUT는 유의하게 감소하였다(p<0.05). 흡연자와 비흡연자의 동공크기는 모든 조도와 휘도에서 차이가 없었고, 대비시력, 대비감도, 고위수차, 조절력 및 TBUT도 유의한 차이가 관 찰되지 않았다. 결 론: 흡연의 급성효과로 동공이 축동되고, 조절력 및 눈물막 안정성이 감소하며, 저대비 시력이 향상되 었다. 그러나 흡연은 만성적으로 동공크기, 시력, 조절력 및 눈물안정성에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타나 흡연은 일시적으로 시기능에 영향을 주는 것으로 생각된다.
Streptococci are among the normal human microflora that populate the oral cavity. However, oral streptococci are known as a major causative agent for dental caries and bacterial endocarditis. Tetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is used for oral infections but two mechanisms of tetracycline resistance in streptococci have been reported. The tet(K) and tet(L) genes in these bacteria are related to the active efflux of tetracycline, whereas tet(M) and tet(O) confer ribosomal protection from this antibiotic. It has been reported that the tetracycline resistance of streptococci is related mainly to the activity of tet(M) and tet(O). In our present study, we examined the prevalence of tet(M) and tet(O) in oral streptococci isolated from Korean dental plaques using PCR. One hundred and forty eight of 635 isolates (23.3%) were tetracycline resistant; 68 of these strains (46%) harbored tet(M) and 3 strains (2%) were positive for tet(O). However, tet(M) and tet(O) did not co-exist in any of the resistant strains. Seventy seven of the 148 tetracycline resistant strains (52%) were negative for both the tet(M) and tet(O) genes.
The purpose of this study was to identity the relationships of sub factor among the brain dominance thinking types(A,B,C,D quadrant thinking type) is based on the Whole Brain Modal and self-leadership by Manz. The subjects were 102 undergraduates students from the Hoseo university in Cheonan. The results of this study as follows ; first, the brain dominance thinking type A was the highest and type C was highly rated. Second, the brain dominance thinking type A was not correlated type C and type D. Third, the brain dominance thinking type C and self-leadership sub factor was significantly positively correlated.
Rotaviruses are double-stranded RNA viruses of the family Reoviridae, a highly diverse family of pathogens of humans and animals. In this study, we identified the lapine rotavirus from diarrheic feces of rabbits by polymerase chain reaction. In order to determine the genetic characteristics of the Korean strain, the sequences of the VP4, VP7, and NSP4 genes were determined and compared with those of reference sequences. Results of sequence and phylogenetic analyses showed that our strain was a G3P [3] rotavirus carrying the group C gene encoding NSP 4 proteins. This is the first report of an outbreak and molecular characterization of lapine rotavirus in Korea.
Objective. To investigate the effects of the hypoxia inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) activation–mimicking agent cobalt chloride (CoCl2) on the osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchy-mal stem cells (hMSCs) and elucidate the underlying mole-cular mechanisms. Study design. The dose and exposure periods for CoCl2 in hMSCs were optimized by cell viability assays. After confirmation of CoCl2-induced HIF-1α and vas-cular endothelial growth factor expression in these cells by RT-PCR, the effects of temporary preconditioning with CoCl2 on hMSC osteogenic differentiation were evaluated by RT- PCR analysis of osteogenic gene expression, an alkaline phos-phatase (ALP) activity assay and by alizarin red S staining. Results. Variable CoCl2 dosages (up to 500 µM) and exposure times (up to 7 days) on hMSC had little effect on hMSC survival. After CoCl2 treatment of hMSCs at 100 µM for 24 or 48 hours, followed by culture in osteogenic differentiating media, several osteogenic markers such as Runx-2, osteocal-cin and osteopontin, bone sialoprotein mRNA expression level were found to be up-regulated. Moreover, ALP acti-vity was increased in these treated cells in which an accele-rated osteogenic capacity was also verified by alizarin red S staining. Conclusions. The osteogenic differentiation poten-tial of hMSCs could be preserved and even enhanced by CoCl2 treatment.
Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic and inhibits bac- terial protein synthesis by stimulating the dissociation of the peptidyl-tRNA molecule from the ribosomes during elon- gation. The use of macrolides has increased dramatically over the last few years and has led to an increase in bac- terial resistance to these antibiotics. Bacterial resistance to erythromycin is generally conferred by the ribosome methy- lation and/or transport (efflux) protein genes. Among the identified erythromycin-resistant genes, erm(B) (erythromy- cin methylation) and mef(A) (macrolide efflux) are gene- rally detectable in erythromycin-resistant streptococcal spe- cies. The distribution of these genes in oral streptococcal iso- lates has been reported in studies from other countries but has not been previously examined in a Korean study. We here examined by PCR the presence of erm(B) and mef(A) in oral streptococci isolated from Korean dental plaques. Among the 57 erythromycin-resistant strains tested, 64.9% harbored erm(B) whereas 40.4% were positive for mef(A). Eleven isolates had both the erm(B) and mef(A) genes. Twenty six isolates had only erm(B) and 12 isolates had only mef(A). Eight of the 57 strains examined were negative for both genes.
TM7 is an uncultivated organism which is present in ex- tremely diverse environments. Members of the Dialister genus are difficult to culture as a result of which many of these strains remain uncultivated. It has been suggested that TM7 and Dialister bacteria may belong to a group of suspected periodontal pathogens. In our current study, the presence of the sebacteria in Korean dental plaque samples was asses- sed using PCR detection methods with specific primers for 16S ribosomal RNA genes. The experimental group inclu- ded 84 volunteers (35 males and 49 females). Plaque sam- ples were collected from 4 non-adjacent proximal sites of the molar areas of the mandible in each subject and pooled. TM7 was detectable in 56% and the Dialister genus in 27.5% of the volunteers. Both TM7 and Dialister were present in 20.3% of volunteers. We found that 36.9% of the volunte e rs we re negative for both bacteria. Further s tudi e s to evaluate the prevalence of these putative pathogenic bac- te ria in the Korean population are warranted.
LIVE/DEAD® BacLight™ and alamarBlue® are fluorescent materials used for the enumeration of live and dead bacteria. LIVE/DEAD® BacLight™ is generally used for confocal microscopy applications to differentiate live from dead bacteria in a biofilm or planktonic state. AlamarBlue® has also been used widely to assay live and dead bacteria in a planktonic state. Whilst these materials are successfully utilized in experiments to discriminate live from dead bacteria for several species of bacteria, the application of these techniques to oral bacteria is limited to the use of LIVE/DEAD® BacLight™ in biofilm studies. In our present study, we assessed whether these two methods could enumerate live and dead oral bacterial species in a planktonic state. We tested the reagents on Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sobrinus, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Enterococcus faecalis and found that only LIVE/DEAD® BacLight™ could differentiate live from dead cells for all five of these oral strains. AlamarBlue® was not effective in this regard for P. gingivalis or A. actinomycetemcomitans. In addition, the differentiation of live and dead bacterial cells by alamarBlue® could not be performed for concentrations lower than 2 × 106 cells/ml. Our data thus indicate that LIVE/DEAD® BacLight™ is a more effective reagent for this analysis.
Oral viridans streptococci are recognized as one of the etiological agents of a variety of infectious diseases such as dental caries and infective endocarditis. Although antimicrobial susceptibility tests for these fastidious bacterial species are now established and standardized, a comparison between the broth microdilution and broth macrodilution tests has not previously been performed. This comparison was performed in the present study using the tests adopted by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and seven clinical isolates of oral viridans streptococcal strains. A modified broth macrodilution susceptibility test method was also included in this analysis, in which the media was not supplemented with horse blood. The susceptibility interpretation category agreements were measured at 83% (broth microdilution versus broth macrodilution) and 71% (broth microdilution versus modified broth macrodilution). The interpretation category agreement between the broth macrodilution and modified broth macrodilution tests was also 83%. These data indicate that the interpretation of antibiotic susceptibility test results for oral viridans streptococci are influenced by the methods used.
본 연구는 정액의 보존 기간 동안 정액의 질적 변화를 알아보고자 시행하였다. 돼지 정액을 Beltsville Thawing Solution (BTS)에 희석한 후 17'C 에서 5일 동안 보존하였다. 보존 기간 동안 정자의 운동성(%)과 linearity는 3일째부터 유의하게 감소하였으나, 다른 운동 역학 변수에서는 유의적 변화를 나타내지 않았다. 또한, 5일 동안 정액을 보존할 경우 첨체의 온전성에도 변화가 없었다. 그러나 제 4일째부터 첨체 변화가 야기된 정자는 유의적으로 증가하였으나, 수정능 획득이 일어난 정자는 유의적으로 감소하였다. 정액의 보존 기간 동안 첨체의 온전성의 유의적 변화가 없었다. 즉, 보존 기간 3일동안 정자의 질적 운동성 및 첨체 온전성에는 유의적인 변화가 없었으므로 상업용 돼지 액상정액은 17'C 에서 적어도 3일간 수정능력을 만족스럽게 유지함을 보여준다.
