A new spary chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum) cultivar ‘Yellow Eye’ was developed from a cross between ‘Angela’ and ‘Angaesoguk’ followed by selections of seedlings and lines at the Flower Research Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services (ARES) from 2003 to 2007. Its characteristics were investigated three times from 2005 to 2007 under forcing culture in spring and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of ‘Yellow Eye’ was October 24th, but year-round production was possible by shading and lighting. Its flower was 3.3 cm in diameter, and had 31.7 petals and 27.9 flowers per stem in autumn. It has pollenless, single type flowers with yellow petals and green flower center. To flower in under the short day condition, for ‘Yellow Eye’ was about 41 days in spring, and ‘Yellow Eye’ showed a vase life of 23.1 days in autumn. This cultivar was registered for a commercialization in 2007. ‘Yellow Eye’ would be cultured under the greenhouse and rain shelter condition in Korea.

To flower in the short day condition, for ‘ye Ball’was about 47 days in spring, and ‘ye Ball’showed a vase life of 20.9 days in autumn. This cultivar was registered for a commercialization in 2007. ‘ye Ball’would be cultured under the greenhouse and rain shelter condition in Korea.

Three year-old peony (Paeonia. lactiflora Pall. cv. Taebaek) was cultivated in green-house at Jan. 15, Feb. 15, or Mar. 15, respectively. The mean of temperature during the forcing cultivation was higher (air; 1.0~11.1℃, soil; 1.1~7.4℃) than that of open-field condition. From sprouting to flowering in peony cultivated at Jan. 15 was about 54 days, which is shorted the cut flower periods (ca. 26 days) compared with the open-field cultivation. However, earlier forcing cultivars were very susceptible to pathogens such as powdery mildew or gray mold. The yield in green house was also lower than in the open-field cultivation. The content of bioactive compounds such as paeoniflorin and albiflorin in green-house cultivars was similar that of open-field cultivars. These results showed the forcing cultivation time of peony at Feb. 15 in green-house was most desirable for commercialization.

A new spray chrysanthemum cultivar, ‘oon Festival’was released by National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI), Rural Development Administration (RDA), Korea in 2007. A cross was made in 2002 between ‘1B1-559’ a breeding line of NHRI and ‘aeksokuk’ a spray cultivar with white petals. Trials were conducted from 2005 to 2007 for evaluation and selection of this cultivar, including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of “oon Festival”is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and lighting treatment. The cultivar is semidouble type flowers with light-ivory white petals and green flower center. Flower neck and stem are very hardy. The diameter of flower is 67.5 mm. The number of flowers per stem and petals per flower is 11.5 and 100.5, respectively. The days to flowering under the short day is about 54 in autumn season.

A new pale yellow gerbera (Gerbera hybrida Hort.) cultivar ‘oney Cream’was developed from a cross between ‘rincessa’and ‘icasso’ followed by seedling and line selections at the Flower Research Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services (ARES) in 2006. Three times evaluations were conducted from 2003 for the detailed characteristics of the new cultivar. ‘oney Cream’has semi-double type large flowers in good harmony with pale yellow (RHS, 11-D) ray floret and green center. It has good, stable flower shape and strong peduncle, and its vase life was 12.3 days. The average flower yield of ‘oney Cream’was about 48.5 stems per plant/year in greenhouse trails during 2003 and 2006. This cultivar was registered to the Korea Seed and Variety Service (KSVS) for commercialization in 2007. Year-round production of this cultivar is possible in the greenhouse condition in Korean climate.

Pinky flowered around 20 October, and year-round production was possible by shading and lighting. Its flower was 3.1 cm in diameter, and had 38.4 petals and 26.8 flowers per stem in autumn. Its petal was narrow (0.4 cm) and pink with green in color at the flower center. Days to flower from short-day start for ‘Pinky’ was about 47 in spring. ‘Pinky’ showed a vase life of 20.9 days in autumn. This cultivar was commercially registered in 2007. ‘Pinky’ would be suitable for culture under the greenhouse and rain shelter condition in Korea.

A New spary chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum) cultivar ‘ater Fog’was bred by open pollination of ‘ngaesoguk’ Its characteristics were investigated three times from 2004 to 2006 under forcing culture in spring and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of ‘ater Fog’was 24 October, but year-round production was possible by shading and lighting. It had flower diameter of 2.3 cm, 46.5 petals and 34.4 flowers per stem in autumn. The petal was narrow(0.4cm) and the color of petal was white with presence of green at flower center. Days to flower from short-day start for ‘ater Fog’ was about 48 in spring. ‘ater Fog’showed the vase life of 22.6 days in autumn. This cultivar was registered for a commercialization in 2007. ‘ater Fog’would be cultured under greenhouse and rain shelter condition in Korea.

경남농업기술원 화훼육종연구소에서 ’98년부터 교배조합육성을 위하여 국내의 재배농가와 종묘업체로부터 품종을 수집한 후, ’01년 3월에 핑크색 대륜계의 ‘Grandeur’를 모본, 백색 소륜계의 ‘Nova Zembla’를 부본으로 인공교배를 실시하여 교배조합으로부터 284개의 종자를 획득하였다. 교배 후 결실이 된 조합은 채종 즉시 파종하였으며, 파종 1개월 후 248개의 유묘를 획득하였으며, 발아된 유묘는 본엽이 4~5매 전개되었을 때 화훼육종연구소 유리온실내의 선발 포장에 정식하였다. 그 후 교잡 1세대를 육묘하여 화색이 선명하고 수량이 많은 우수 2개체(01128-65, 94)를 1차로 선발하였다. 그 후 특성이 우수한 01128-94(경남 G-22)개체를 생장점배양에 의해 개체증식 후 화훼육종연구소 유리온실내의 특성검정 포장에 정식하여 2003년 6월부터 2004년 10월까지 3회에 걸쳐 생육 및 수량특성 검정을 실시하였다. 특성검정을 실시한 결과 화색, 화형, 수확량 등 품질과 수량이 우수하다고 판단되어 2005년 농작물 직무육성 신품종선정위원회의 심의를 거쳐 ‘Summer Ring’로 명명하였다. ‘Summer Ring’은 화색이 선명한 핑크색의 반겹꽃 절화용으로 수량이 많고 안정된 소륜화로서 화색과 화심색이 잘 조화된 기호도가 높은 품종이다. 본당 수량은 연간 3회 검정 결과 평균 68.9개이며, 평균절화수명은 14.7일이다.

A new gerbera variety 'Claret' was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2006. A cross was made between 'Rako' with pink and semi-double and 'Sessile' with orange and single in 2000. After investigation of the characteristics for 6 years (from 2000 to 2006), it was selected specially for the use of cut-flower. 'Claret' is vigorous cultivar with purple and semi-double. It produces a large yield with continuous supply of flowers and has adequate peduncle height and brilliant color. We believe that 'Claret' has a great potential for expanding cultivated area of domestic mini-gerbera cultivar and increasing farmers-income.

A cross was made between 'Ansofie' with white and semi-double and 'Lilabella' with pink and semi-double in 2000. It produces a large yield with continuous supply of flowers and has adequate peduncle height and brilliant color. We believe that 'Peach Honey' has a great potential for expanding cultivated area of domestic gerbera cultivar and increasing farmers-income.

The cross was made in 2003 between '01B1-41', a breeding line of NHRI and `01B1-273', a breeding line of NHRI. The characteristics were investigated from 2004 to 2006 for the evaluation and selection of this variety, including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of "Whitney PangPang" is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has pompon type flowers with light-ivory petals and yellow green flower center. Flower neck and stem showed very strong hardness. The diameter of flower is 5.0 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 11 and the days to flower under the short day treatment is about 56 in autumn season. "Whitney PangPang" has over 22 days of long vase life.

The cross between 'Restone' and 'Focus' was made in 2001. After evaluation for the characteristics including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in spring and consecutive selection from 2002 to 2005, final selection was made. The natural flowering time of "Yellow PangPang" is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has pompon type flowers with yellow petals and greenish yellow flower center. It shows very strong stem hardness, especially flower neck, and excellent flower setting. The diameter of flower is 3.9 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 11.3 and the days to flower under the short day treatment is about 54 in autumn season. It has long vase life of 21 days in autumn.

A new spray chrysanthemum cultivar, 'Orange Memory' was released by National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI), Rural Development Administration (RDA), in 2006. The cross was made in 2003 between '02B1-525', a breeding line of NHRI and '02B1-493', a breeding line of NHRI. After evaluation for the characteristics including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in spring and consecutive selection from 2002 to 2005, final selection was made. The natural flowering time of "Orange Memory" is Early November, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has semi-double type flowers with orange color and shows resistant to white rust and vigorous growth. The diameter of flower is 5.3 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 13.5 and number of petals per flower is 59.0. The days to flower under short day treatment is about 64 and its vase life is 20 days in autumn season.

The natural flowering time of 'Plaisir D'Amour' is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has single type flowers with mixed color by dark pink and white edged. It shows excellent flower setting and early blooming with multi-floret. The diameter of flower is 5.4 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 15.5 and number of petals per flower is 21.5. The days to flower under short day treatment is about 56 and its vase life is 21 days in autumn season.

It has round and wide petal, single type flowers with pure white petals and yellowish green flower center. The flowers are large and volumed. The plant shows vigorous growth. The diameter of flower is 7.4 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 9.3 and number of petals per flower is 27.7. The days to flower under short day treatment is about 57 and its vase life is 19 days in autumn season.

The diameter of flower is 6.6 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 11.7 and number of petals per flower is 27. The days to flower under short day treatment is about 56 and its vase life is 19 days in autumn season.

A new bright scarlet gladiolus “Adlib Scarlet” was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2003. A cross was made between early flowering salmon line “94-18 (Arianne×Hongkwang)” and early flowering salmon cultivar “Adlib Salmon”, which was released at the NHRI in 2000. It was crossed in 1999 and finally selected in 2003 after investigation of the characteristics for 4 years from 2000 to 2003. “Adlib Scarlet” has a multiple middle sized bright scarlet florets with good simultaneous flowering. This cultivar is early flowering and moderately resistant against virus and neck rot. It has vigorous growth without stem bending. The width of “Adlib Scarlet” flower is 10.8 cm. The plant height is 132 cm. Days to flowering of “Adlib Scarlet” is average 92days in summer season.
