        Environmental tolerance of three important spider mite predators; Neoseiulus womersleyi, Neoseiulus californicus and Phytoseiulus persimilis (Phytoseiidae) was experimented by treating combination of temperature and relative humidity for egg hatching and immature survival. Egg hatching rate increased at the relative humidity incrased for three species. Temperature effects were only significant to N. californicus and P. persimilis. The lethal humidities for three species were in the range of 56-77, 82.0, 66-94% RH, respectively. Larva does not need to feed for larval development into protonymph in three tested species. No larvae survived at lower than 75% RH for N. womersleyi, but around 80% at 95% RH. N. californicus larvae survived around 50% and 100% at 75 and 95% RH. P. persimilis larve survival was decreased as the temperature increased at 75% RH, but platued around 100% at 95% RH. Cannibalism was higher in N. californicus and lower in P. persimilis. Implementation of the results was discussed relative to biological control of spider mites in open field and greenhouse crops.

        자연 환경을 이용한 관광은 많은 열대 지역 국가에서 활성화되고 있으며 중요한 국가의 수익이 되고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 환경과 문화 자원에 미치는 관광의 영향은 관광산업의 지속 가능성과 경쟁력을 위협하고 있다. 그러므로 환경과 문화적으로 민감한 관광 지역에 대한 적합한 계획과 관리는 지역의 경제적 수익과 더불어 지역 문화와 환경을 균형 있게 유지하기 위해서 필수적인 사항이다. 이 논문의 목적은 사화문화자원과 자연 자원을 결정하기 위한 관광사업의 관행을 탐구하는 것이다. 또한 문화 경관에 대한 주민 인식을 평가함과 더불어 지속 가능한 관광을 성취하기 위한 적절한 전략을 수립하기 위하여 미래의 관광자원 개발에 대한 논의를 하는 것이다. 본 연구는 인도네시아 East Java지역의 Bromo Tengger Semeru국립공원(BTSNP)에 있는 Tengger 고산 마을에서 진행되었다. 문헌 자료와 주민 인터뷰를 통하여 최근 관광 현황과 자원 활용에 관한 내용을 파악하였다. 관광 개발에 대한 주민의 관점, 문화 보전, 문화 경관 보호에 관한 사항을 주민 인터뷰와 설문지를 이용하여 얻었다. 식생 정보를 이용하여 최근 환경의 상황도 파악하였다. 조사 결과 BTSNP와 지역 주민의 정신적 문화 자원인 Tengger Caldera지역의 관광은 현저하게 증가하고 있었다. 문화와 자연 자원의 풍부성은 지속 가능한 관광을 위한 중요한 자본이다. 주민들은 관광 사업이 주민들에게 이익을 주고, 자연을 보전하고, 마을 주민들의 지속 가능한 전통적 생활을 보장하도록 계획되어야 함을 주장하고 있다. 이 연구에서는 문화 경관의 지속 가능한 관광을 위한 전략을 수립하기 위해서는 긍정적인 사회적 인식과 자연 문화자원에 대한 고유적인 특성의 보전이 필요함을 설명하고 있다. 끝으로 이러한 관점에서 지역 주민의 이익을 높이고 문화와 문화 경관을 균형 있게 보호하기 위한 생태적 장치가 필요하다.

        Accuracy of dietary assessment depends on correct estimation of quantity as well as correct data on composition of the products. Milk and soymilk were considered quite homogeneous in items of package size and composition. One serving size of fluid milk and soymilk is considered 200 mL but there are products with different amounts on the market. This study was conducted to investigate variations of amounts and composition of fluid milk and soymilk products of one portion siz on Korean market. Twenty-nine milk products were purchased and categorized into 8 groups-regular, low-fat, skim, chocolate, strawberry-flavored, banana-flavored, and black soybean-added. Sixteen fluid soymilk products were purchased and categorized into 4 groups-regular, infant, black sesame or black soybean added and others. Actual volume of each product was measured by mass cylinder and compositions of major nutrients on the package were compared to the values in the most widely used nutrient DB in Korea. Amounts of milk specified on the package of purchased products were 182.3-318.5 ml, the largest being banana-flavored milk. Amounts of soy milk were 184.3-240.5 mL, the largest being regular soymilk. Measured amount of each products were close to the amount on the package (<5%). Contents of macronutrients on the package were different from the food composition table in several products. The amounts of calcium varied greatly among the products due to the popularity of adding calcium to milk and soymilk products recently. These variations in the amount and contents of major nutrients in milk and soymilk products can lead to considerable error to the results of dietary assessment unless the amount and the composition of each product are regularly updated in the food composition table whenever the new products are introduced in the market.

        Over the last three decades, various disciplines of discourse analysis have shared a common interest in language use, especially in how people use real language. It is therefore of immediate interest to language teachers when selecting and devising teaching materials or when engaging learners in activities aimed at leading them to be more proficient users of their target language. This paper begins with outlining essential written discourse elements, such as grammatical and lexical cohesive devices, clause relations and larger text patterns which play important roles in syntactic and semantic cohesion and coherence in written texts. Then, the procedure of a written discourse analysis on a news text is described. The paper ends with a discussion on the insights from the written discourse analysis, which might be applicable, in specifiable ways, to language teaching, focusing on how to apply written discourse elements to teaching written English in real classrooms.

        Due to the highly instrumental, test-driven, learning that occurs in secondary education in Korea, EFL teachers at tertiary level face students who, while differing in terms of proficiencies, majors, and learning needs, tend to share a lack of English performance skills. Communicative competence is not yet part of the university entrance exam, so it receives little attention in secondary education, leavingtertiary educators the task of fostering this skill. This paper describes a Freshman English program which attempted to do this by applying recent findings in the fields of cognitive, affective and social learning, and by catering to differing learning needs and multiple intelligences. In order to do this, the researchers put together a student-centered program which encouraged students to take responsibility for their learning through making performance projects, assessing their performance skills, and continuously reflecting on their learning needs, goals and achievements. The program was in effect for four years, and results showed improvement in student confidence, motivation, and attitudes to learning, in addition to communicative competence and autonomy. In conclusion, it is suggested that the humanistic goals of the 7th National Curriculum are achievable at tertiary level. This will, however, involve teacher-training and reform of the test-driven learning environment.

        The article deals with the roles of Chinese Christian NGOs for social service and the implications for North Korea. The article consists of 4 parts: Chinese NGOs and the roles for social service, possibility of Chinese Christian NGOs for social service, the implications for North Korea, and missionary tasks of Korean Churches for both China and North Korea. The first part discusses necessity of NGOs for social service in China which has been in sufferings such as gap of the rich and the poor, and unemployment due to the economic reform policies of China. The reform policy motivated to establish many kinds of NGOs in Chinese civil society. Under the socialist political rule Chinese NGOs are characterized with the supplementary roles for Chinese authority or mediation roles between the authority and people. The second part analyzes the Chinese Christian NGOs and their social roles. Under the religious policies of the Chinese regime, the history and theology of the three-self church and so-called the home-based church are described. Their social roles are analyzed in the perspective of NPO which is existed for public service. Particularly the activities of the Amity Foundation, an excellent Christian NGO in China are emphasized. The third part describes some possibilities of Christian NGOs for social service in North Korea which has just started to exercise the economic reform policy. During implementing the policy most of North Korean people have been suffered from social problems such as gap between the rich and the poor. NGOs can contribute to relieve North Korean from social poverty. Also the society needs some Christian NGOs. In conclusion the article suggests two tasks to the Korean Churches in the perspective of NGO. First, the Churches are asked to support to establish Christian NGOs in North Korea such as the Amity Foundation in China. Second, the Churches should reflect their mission policies for China which emphasized on conversion and church planting. Instead the Churches are asked to support to develop Christian NGOs in China.

        As students, faculty, and professionals from China and America interact more frequently through face-to-face exchanges and through networking technologies they are more and more aware that cultural assumptions and values affect the ways they communicate and learn from each other. Unstated assumptions regarding individualism, competition, time, and authority tend to differ between American and Chinese cultures. These differences, in turn, have implications for creating effective technology -enhanced distance learning environments. Further research is needed on issues such as whether cultures that put heavy emphasis on the authority of the teacher and predispose learners towards the transmission model of learning, are less favorably disposed to existing distance learning models, and how novel models could meet these challenges.

        미국의 외식산업은 계속 증가하는 추세로 2005년의 레스토랑 매출은 U.S. GDP의 4%인 4,760억 달러에 달할 것으로 예측되며 약 4.9%의 성장이 기대되고 있다. 약900,000 레스토랑에서 식사와 간식을 제공하며 또한 레스토랑에서 근무하는 종업원의 숫자도 약 1억 2천만 명에 이르러서 민간부문에서 가장 큰 규모를 나타내고 있다. 미국 내 외식 산업의 환경은 사회변화와 함께 빠른 속도로 변화하고 있다. 베이비 붐 세대가 장년기에 들어서면서 노인 인구가 급증하고 있으며, 비만과 성인병의 증가로 인해 레스토랑 메뉴의 영양표시에 대한 요구도가 커지고 있다. 또한 외식이 비만에 미치는 영향에 대한 사회적인 문제가 관심의 초점이 되면서 레스토랑에서 건강 메뉴 개발이 요구되고 있다. 이와 함께 건강지향 고객의 증가로 인해 보다 건강한 외식에 대한 필요성도 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 따라서 이러한 환경변화에 대응하기 위한 레스토랑의 노력이 어느 때 보다도 필요한 시점이다. 외식산업 시장에서 민족음식(ethnic food)은 중요한 위치를 차지하게 되었으며 고객의 보다 다양한 문화적 욕구를 충족시키기 위한 마케팅이 요구되고 있다. 미국 내 외식 시장에서 한식의 위치는 한식의 영양적 우수함에도 불구하고 낮은 인지도와 전략적 마케팅의 부재로 인해 아직 미약한 실정으로 보인다. 미국 시장 개척을 위해서는 미국의 현재 외식 산업의 추이를 파악하고 그 안에서 한식의 위치를 재정립하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 미국 외식 산업의 현재 추이와 영양과 건강문제가 외식 산업에 미치는 영향에 대해 조사하고 한식의 대미 진출을 위한 기초 자료를 제공 하고자 한다.
