        In this study, the electrochemical behavior of Sm on the binary liquid Al-Ga cathode in the LiCl-KCl molten salt system is investigated. First, the co-reduction process of Sm(III)-Al(III), Sm(III)-Ga(III), and Sm(III)-Ga(III)-Al(III) on the W electrode (inert) were studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV), square-wave voltammetry (SWV) and open circuit potential (OCP) methods, respectively. It was identified that Sm(III) can be co-reduced with Al(III) or Ga(III) to form AlzSmy or GaxSmy intermetallic compounds. Subsequently, the under-potential deposition of Sm(III) at the Al, Ga, and Al-Ga active cathode was performed to confirm the formation of Sm-based intermetallic compounds. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) analyses indicated that Ga3Sm and Ga6Sm intermetallic compounds were formed on the Mo grid electrode (inert) during the potentiostatic electrolysis in LiCl-KCl-SmCl3-AlCl3- GaCl3 melt, while only Ga6Sm intermetallic compound was generated on the Al-Ga alloy electrode during the galvanostatic electrolysis in LiCl-KCl-SmCl3 melt. The electrolysis results revealed that the interaction between Sm and Ga was predominant in the Al-Ga alloy electrode, with Al only acting as an additive to lower the melting point.

        Natural gas is the most realistic fuel among eco-friendly fuels. Natural gas production is limited, and in Korea, it is supplied and utilized in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG). In the case of LNG, the vaporization point is 163 degrees below zero, so ordinary metal cannot be used due to its brittleness. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) defines metals that can be used in the IGC Code, and is used for storage containers, transportation containers, etc. based on the metals. Welding is essential in the manufacture of large structures such as LNG storage tanks. In this study, weldability studies related to cryogenic materials were conducted. In Part I of this study, high-manganese steel and part II were studied for two types of stainless steel (STS304L, STS316L), and in Part III, aluminum (AL5083). During laser welding, the shape of the Bead on Plate (BOP) was analyzed, and a total of nine cases were analyzed using laser power and welding speed as variables. It was confirmed that the penetration and the width of the welding width were linearly proportional to the amount of heat input. Based on this study, it is possible to conduct a follow-up study to find the optimal welding conditions for butt welding and fillet welding.

        In this study, we investigate the effect of Al/N source ratios and growth rates on the growth and structural properties of AlN films on c-plane sapphires by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. Both growth rates and Al/N ratios affect crystal qualities of AlN films. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) values of (1015) X-ray rocking curves (XRCs) change from 0.22 to 0.31° with changing of the Al/N ratios, but the curves of (0002) XRCs change from 0.04 to 0.45° with changing of the Al/N ratios. This means that structural deformation due to dislocations is slightly affected by the Al/N ratio in the (1015) XRCs but affected strongly for the (0002) XRCs. From the viewpoint of growth rate, the AlN films with high growth rate (HGR) show better crystal quality than the low growth rate (LGR) films overall, as shown by the FWHM values of the (0002) and (1015) XRCs. Based on cross-sectional transmission electron microscope observation, the HGR sample with an Al/N ratio of 3.1 shows more edge dislocations than there are screw and mixed dislocations in the LGR sample with Al/N ratio of 3.5.

        Graphene and Fe3O4 were bound by electrostatic attraction and prepared by effective reduction through microwave treatments. As a result of fabricating graphene with Fe3O4 as a composite material, it has been confirmed that it contributes to the structural improvement in graphene stabilization and at the same time, it shows improved electrochemical performance through improved charge transfer. It was also confirmed that the crystalline Fe3O4 was uniformly dispersed in the rGO sheet, effectively blocking the reaggregation due to the van der Waals interaction between the neighboring rGO sheets. The structural analysis of prepared composites was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffractometer. Electrochemical properties of composites were studied by cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge–discharge curves, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The Fe3O4 (0.4 M)/rGO composite showed a high specific capacitance of 972 F g−1 at the current density of 1 A g−1 in 6 M KOH electrolyte, which is higher than that of the pristine materials rGO (251 F g−1) and Fe3O4 (183 F g−1). Also, the prepared composites showed a very stable cyclic behavior at high current density, as well as an improvement in comparison with pristine materials in terms of resistance.

        Using ALMA observations of the 13CN and DCN lines in the massive star-forming region G33.92+0.11A, we investigate the CN/HCN abundance ratio, which serves as a tracer of photodissociation chemistry, over the whole observed region. Even considering the uncertainties in calculating the abundance ratio, we fi nd high ratios (》1) in large parts of the source, especially in the outer regions of star-forming clumps A1, A2, and A5. Regions with high CN/HCN ratios coincide with the in infows of accreted gas suggested by Liu et al. (2015). We conclude that we found strong evidence for interaction between the dense gas clumps and the accreted ambient gas which may have sequentially triggered the star formation in these clumps.

        Insect cuticle or exoskeleton is an extracellular matrix consisting of three major morphologically distinct layers, the water-proofing envelope, the protein-rich epicuticle and the chitin/protein-rich procuticle. To accommodate growth, insects must periodically replace their cuticles in a process called “molting or ecdysis”. During each molt cycle a new cuticle is deposited simultaneously with degradation of the inner part of the chitinous procuticle of the old one by molting fluid enzymes including epidermal chitinases. In this study, we show a novel role for an epidermal endochitinase containing two catalytic domains, TcCHT7, from the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum, belonging to a subfamily (group III) of insect chitinases in organizing chitin in the newly forming cuticle rather than in degrading chitin present in the prior one. RNAi of TcCHT7 reveals that this enzyme is nonessential for any type of molt or degradation of the chitinous matrix in the old cuticle. In contrast, TcCHT7 is required for formation of properly oriented long chitin fibers inside pore canals that are vertically oriented columnar structures, which contribute to maintain the integrity and the mechanical strength of a light-weight, yet rigid, adult cuticle. Because group III chitinases are highly conserved among insect and other arthropod species, these enzymes have a critical role in the higher ordered organization of chitin fibers for development of the structural integrity of many invertebrate cuticular extracellular matrices.         본 논문은 존 던이 『드러나는 일들에 대한 묵상』 III에서 인간의 나약성, 죄, 그리고 한계성의 인식에서 비롯된 내적 분란을 어떻게 형상화하고 있는가를 보여주는데 있다. 또한 이러한 내적 혼돈과 불편함을 전지전능하신 신의 목적과 현시에 대한 명상을 통해 어떻게 저항하고 극복해 가는가를 분석한다. 존 던의 이 작품 여러 곳에서는 영적 불안정성, 인간 삶의 유한함, 인간사의 여러 한계에 대한 생각으로 인하여 비롯된 영적 불안함을 성스러운 신에 대한 통찰을 통해 대면하고 극복해 나가는 영적 순례를 보여주고 있다. 이 작품의 세 부분을 통하여 던은 구원에 대한 신성한 묵상을 통하여 내적으로 자기 파멸적인 고뇌를 해결하고자 노력하고 있음을 보여준다.

        본 논문의 목적은 바이런이 쓴 『차일드 헤럴드의 순례』 III-IV 칸토에 주인공인 헤럴드가 인간의 명예, 권력, 유한성, 그리고 삶의 생명력과 관련하여 상실, 고통 그리고 영적인 깨달음에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 있는가를 다루는데 있다. 바이런이 살던 당대와 현대 비평가들은 이 부분에 대해 간략하게 언급해 오고 있으며, 특히 이를 바이런적 인물들의 특성으로 치부하는 경향이 있다. 즉, 바이런 시인 자신의 음울하고 고독한 면모의 일부가 드러난 것으로 폄훼하여 작품 자체의 역동성을 간과하고 있다. 이에 본 논문은 헤럴드가 칸토 네 개를 통해 어떻게 내면 및 외부세계와의 다양한 관계 속에서 상실, 고난, 영적 각성을 밀도 있게 드러내는 가에 초점을 두고 있다. 이를 바이런이 쓴 다른 작품들과의 상호연관성 속에서 심도 있게 다룸과 아울러 헤럴드가 사랑, 삶의 활력과 불멸의 세계를 상실과 고난에 대한 인식과 더불어 어떻게 받아들이고 있는가도 다루어 본다.

        Detecting exoplanets around giant stars sheds light on the later-stage evolution of planetary systems. We observed the M giant HD 18438 and the K giant HD 158996 as part of a Search for Exoplanets around Northern circumpolar Stars (SENS) and obtained 38 and 24 spectra from 2010 to 2017 using the high-resolution Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) at the 1.8m telescope of Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory in Korea. We obtained precise RV measurements from the spectra and found long-period radial velocity (RV) variations with period 719.0 days for HD 18438 and 820.2 days for HD 158996. We checked the chromospheric activities using Ca ii H and H lines, HIPPARCOS photometry and line bisectors to identify the origin of the observed RV variations. In the case of HD 18438, we conclude that the observed RV variations with period 719.0 days are likely to be caused by the pulsations because the periods of HIPPARCOS photometric and H EW variations for HD 18438 are similar to that of RV variations in Lomb-Scargle periodogram, and there are no correlations between bisectors and RV measurements. In the case of HD 158996, on the other hand, we did not find any similarity in the respective periodograms nor any correlation between RV variations and line bisector variations. In addition, the probability that the real rotational period can be as longer than the RV period for HD 158996 is only about 4.3%. Thus we conclude that observed RV variations with a period of 820.2 days of HD 158996 are caused by a planetary companion, which has the minimum mass of 14.0 MJup, the semi-major axis of 2.1 AU, and eccentricity of 0.13 assuming the stellar mass of 1.8 M⊙. HD 158996 is so far one of the brightest and largest stars to harbor an exoplanet candidate.
