        Vitamin K1 (VK1) has been widely used as a coumarin antagonist and for the treatment of hemorrhagic disease in veterinary practice. However, the potential mechanism of adverse reaction after VK1 injection has been not fully elucidated. In this study, two cases of anaphylactic reactions after subcutaneous VK1 injection were presented, and then an experimental study was performed to further characterize the anaphylactic reactions. Two dogs developed anaphylactic reactions after subcutaneous VK1 injections and were promptly treated with antihistamines and glucocorticoids, after which abnormal signs related to anaphylaxis disappeared. Subsequently, a study was undertaken to ascertain the nature of the adverse reactions to subcutaneous VK1 injection. Six healthy laboratory beagle dogs received subcutaneous VK1 administrations once daily for eight days. They were monitored for clinical signs after each injection, and blood samples were collected for the measurement of plasma histamine and immunoglobulin E concentrations using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. All six dogs showed mild angioedema after the VK1 injections. The dogs also displayed clinical signs including sneezing, coughing, skin reddening, excess salivation, pawing the ground, and somnolence on days 4, 6, and 8. Plasma histamine and immunoglobulin E concentrations were significantly increased by the repeated injections. In summary, this study describes anaphylactic reactions resulting from subcutaneous VK1 administration in dogs. Clinicians should be aware that the repeated subcutaneous injection of VK1 can trigger an anaphylactic reaction in dogs.

        This study investigates the interfacial reaction between powder-metallurgy high-entropy alloys (HEAs) and cast aluminum. HEA pellets are produced by the spark plasma sintering of Al0.5CoCrCu0.5FeNi HEA powder. These sintered pellets are then placed in molten Al, and the phases formed at the interface between the HEA pellets and cast Al are analyzed. First, Kirkendall voids are observed due to the difference in the diffusion rates between the liquid Al and solid HEA phases. In addition, although Co, Fe, and Ni atoms, which have low mixing enthalpies with Al, diffuse toward Al, Cu atoms, which have a high mixing enthalpy with Al, tend to form Al–Cu intermetallic compounds. These results provide guidelines for designing Al matrix composites containing high-entropy phases.

        To estimate the removal efficiency of TRU and rare earth elements in an oxide spent fuel, basic dissolution experiments were performed for the reaction of rare earth elements from the prepared simfuel with chlorination reagents in LiCl-KCl molten salt. Based on the literature survey, NH4Cl, UCl3, and ZrCl4 were selected as chlorination reagent. CeO2 and Gd2O3 powders were mixed with uranium oxide as a representative material of rare earth elements. Simfuel pellets were prepared through molding and sintering processes, and mechanically pulverized to a powder form. The experiments for the reaction of the simfuel powder and chlorination reagents were carried out in a LiCl-KCl molten salt at 500°C. To observe the dissolution behavior of rare earth elements, molten salt samples were collected before and after the reactions, and concentration analysis was performed using ICP. After the reaction completed, the remaining oxide was washed with water and separated from the molten salt, and XRD was used for structural analysis. As a result of salt concentration analysis, the dissolution performance of rare earth elements was confirmed in the reaction experiments of all chlorination reagents. In an experiment using NH4Cl and ZrCl4, the uranium concentration in the molten salt was also measured. In other words, it seemed that not only rare elements but also uranium oxide, which is a main component of simfuel, was dissolved. Therefore, it is thought that the dissolution of rare earth elements is also possible due to the collapse of the uranium oxide structure of the solid powder and the reaction with the oxide of rare earth elements exposed to molten salt. As a result of analyzing the concentration changes of Simfuel before and after each reaction, there was little loss of uranium and rare earth elements (Ce/Gd) in the NH4Cl experiment, but a significant amount of rare earth elements were found to be reduced in the UCl3 experiment, and a large amount of rare earth elements were reduced in the ZrCl4 reaction.

        Herein a rich, Se-nanoparticle modified Mo-W18O49 nanocomposite as efficient hydrogen evolution reaction catalyst is reported via hydrothermal synthesized process. In this work, Na2SeSO3 solution and selenium powder are used as Se precursor material. The structure and composition of the nanocomposites are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), EDX spectrum analysis and the corresponding element mapping. The improved electrochemical properties are studied by current density, and EIS analysis. The as-prepared Se modified Mo-W18O49 synthesized via Na2SeSO3 is investigated by FE-SEM analysis and found to exhibit spherical particles combined with nanosheets. This special morphology effectively improves the charge separation and transfer efficiency, resulting in enhanced photoelectric behavior compared with that of pure Mo-W18O49. The nanomaterial obtained via Na2SeSO3 solution demonstrates a high HER activity and low overpotential of -0.34 V, allowing it to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm2.

        We conducted diagnostic investigations to analyze the causes of abortions (46 cases, 65.7%), deaths (22 cases, 31.4%) and muscular lesions (2 cases, 2.9%) occurred after foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccination in livestock farms in Korea. Bacterial culture, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were performed to detect the causative agents of abortion in bovine and caprine. The diagnostic results showed that 36 (51.4%) cases, referring as “Identified”, were occurred by influence of underlying disease including bovine viral diarrhea (12 cases, 17.1%), neosporosis (7 cases, 10.0%), septicemic colibacillosis (5 cases, 7.1%), Q fever (4 cases, 5.7%) and other abnormal conditions (8 cases, 11.4%) not by vaccination. Other 2 (3.0%) cases were suspected to be vaccine-associated adverse reaction on the basis of pathological findings (shock lung, oil-component-induced granuloma) and clinical symptoms (dyspnea with pulmonary edema). The other 32 (45.7%) cases were determined “Unknown” because any pathogens and pathological changes were not identified. However, many of the “Unknown” cases were presumptive to be the vaccine-related adverse reaction based on epidemiological investigation, especially, the cases which showed the clinical signs within 2 days after the vaccination. It is important to conduct pathological, microbilogical and epidemiological investigation to diagnose whether the cases are from vaccine-associated adverse reaction or not.

        아산화질소(N2O, Nitrous Oxide)는 6대 온실가스 중 하나로 대기 중에서 적외선을 흡수하여 온실효과를 유발하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 특히 지구온난화지수(GWP)는 CO2에 비해 310배 높아 국내뿐만 아니라 전 세계적으로 이슈화되고 있으며, 그에 따른 강력한 환경 규 제 강화법들이 발의되고 있다. N2O 저감 기술에는 물리적인 방식에 따라 농축회수, 촉매분해, 그리고 열분해로 구분할 수 있는데, 본 연구 에서는 그 중 가장 효과적인 열분해 처리방식에 대해 논의하고자 일반적인 연소 조건 내 고온 열분해 방식을 이용하여 비용 저감과 함께 질소산화물을 저감시키는 온도 조건 및 반응 시간에 대한 정보를 제공하고자 한다. 열분해 조건으로 선정된 고온 영역은 1073 K부터 1373 K 까지 100 K 간격을 두고 계산을 수행하였다. 1073 K과 1173 K의 온도조건에 경우, N2O 저감율과 일산화질소 농도가 체류시간에 따라 비례관 계를 이루는 것이 관측되었으며, 1273 K에 경우, 체류시간이 증가함에 따라 발생되는 역반응으로 인해 N2O 저감율이 감소되는 것이 관측되 었다. 특히 1373 K에 경우, 모든 체류시간에 대해 정반응과 역반응이 화학 평형상태에 도달하여 N2O 저감에 대한 반응진행율이 오히려 감 소하는 것으로 확인되었다.

        This study aimed to develop strain-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primers to detect Fusobacterium hwasookii KCOM 1249T, F. hwasookii KCOM 1253, F. hwasookii KCOM 1256, F. hwasookii KCOM 1258, and F. hwasookii KCOM 1268 on the basis of nucleotide sequences of a gene specific to each strain. The unique genes for each F. hwasookii strain were determined on the basis of their genome sequences using Roary. The strain-specific PCR primers based on each strain-specific gene were designed using PrimerSelect. The specificity of each PCR primer was determined using the genomic DNA of the 5 F. hwasookii strains and 25 strains of oral bacterial species. The detection limit and sensitivity of each strain-specific PCR primer pair were determined using the genomic DNA of each target strain. The results showed that the strain-specific PCR primers correspond to F. hwasookii KCOM 1249T, F. hwasookii KCOM 1253, F. hwasookii KCOM 1258, F. hwasookii KCOM 1256/F. nucleatum subsp. polymorphum KCOM 1260, or F. hwasookii KCOM 1268/Fusobacterium sp. oral taxon 203 were developed. The detection limits of these strain-specific PCR primers ranged from 0.2 to 2 ng of genomic DNA for each target strain. The results suggest that these strain-specific PCR primers are valuable in quality control for detecting specific F. hwasookii strains.

        This study aimed to develop Lautropia mirabilis -specific quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) primers based on the sequence of DNA-directed RNA polymerase subunit beta gene. The PrimerSelect program was used in designing of the qPCR primers, RTLam-F4 and RTLam-R3. The specificity of the qPCR primers were performed by conventional PCR with 37 strains of 37 oral bacterial species, including L. mirabilis . The sensitivity of the primers was determined by qPCR with the serial dilution of purified genomic DNA of L. mirabilis KCOM 3484, ranged from 4 ng to 4 fg. The data showed that the qPCR primers could detect only L. mirabilis strains and as little as 40 fg of genome DNA of L. mirabilis KCOM 3484. These results indicate that this qPCR primer pair (RTLam-F4/ RTLam-R3) may be useful for species-specific detection of L. mirabilis in epidemiological studies of oral bacterial infectious diseases such as periodontal disease.

        사람 아이치바이러스 (Aichivirus A; AiV-A)는 positivesense single-strand RNA 비외피 바이러스로 지난 10년 동안 하수, 강, 지표 및 지상의 다양한 물환경에서 전 세계적으로 검출이 보고되고 있다. 지하수 등 물환경에서 AiV-A 진단을 위한 고감도 및 특이성이 우수한 방법의 개발이 요구됨에 따라, 본 연구에서는 기존 및 신규 설계된 프라이 머 세트를 기초로 역전사 (RT) 및 이중 중합효소연쇄반응이 가능한 조합을 개발하였다. 개발한 방법을 국내 음용 지하수 시료에 적용 및 평가하였으며, 그 결과 지하수 시료에서 AiV-A를 성공적으로 검출 및 동정할 수 있는 RTnested PCR primer sets가 선정되었고 후속적으로 동정할 수 있는 절차가 고안되었다. 본 연구 결과는 지하수 등 물 환경에서 AiV-A 오염을 탐지하기 위한 모니터링 시스템 마련에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

        Nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs), derived from the biomass (anthocyanin), are the novel additive to the nanocarbon materials, which is expected to bring a wide spectrum of novel applications. Moreover, metallic oxides are emerging for their unique potential for electrocatalysis. Herein, we report the synthesis of N-CDs for the selective detection of Fe3+ with a limit of detection of 2.57 μM in the range of 5–60 μM using ethylenediamine and H2O2 by a hydrothermal method. The obtained N-CDs displayed a spherical morphology with a particle size range of 2–7 nm and emitted blue luminescence at 394 nm under excitation at 319 nm. Meanwhile, we have demonstrated the fabrication of cost-efficient electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline medium, employing N-CDs. Owing to the successful incorporation of N-CDs into NiO nanospheres, the resulting N-CDs/NiO with large surface areas, fast charge transfer, and increased conductivity vastly improved the catalytic activity. Remarkably, the optimal of N-CDs/NiO composite requires the overpotential of only 380 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm− 2 and a relatively low Tafel slope of 57.96 mV dec− 1 compared with pure NiO. These results open up a facile route for the application of N-CDs and offer prospects for CD-metal hybrids as high OER catalysts in electrochemical energy devices.

        The electrochemical reaction between lead borate glass frit doped with Sn metal filler and Ni-Cr wire of a J-type resistor during a term of Joule heating is investigated. The fusing behavior in which the Ni-Cr wire is melted is not observed for the control group but measured for the Sn-doped specimen under 30 V and 500 mA. The Sn-doped lead borate glass frit shows a fusing property compared with other metal-doped specimens. Meanwhile, the redox reaction significantly contributes to the fusing behavior due to the release of free electrons of the metal toward the glass. The electrons derived from the glass, which used Joule heat to reach the melting point of Ni-Cr wire, increase with increasing corrosion rate at interface of metal/ glass. Finally, the confidence interval is 95 ± 1.959 %, and the adjusted regression coefficient, R in the optimal linear graph, is 0.93, reflecting 93% of the data and providing great potential for fusible resistor applications.

        The reaction between Li2CO3 and Cl2 was investigated to verify its occurrence during a carbon-anode-based oxide reduction (OR) process. The reaction temperature was identified as a key factor that determines the reaction rate and maximum conversion ratio. It was found that the reaction should be conducted at or above 500℃ to convert more than 90% of the Li2CO3 to LiCl. Experiments conducted at various total flow rate (Q) / initial sample weight (W i) ratios revealed that the reaction rate was controlled by the Cl2 mass transfer under the experimental conditions adopted in this work. A linear increase in the progress of reaction with an increase in Cl2 partial pressure (pCl2) was observed in the pCl2 region of 2.03–10.1 kPa for a constant Q of 100 mL∙min−1 and W i of 1.00 g. The results of this study indicate that the reaction between Li2CO3 and Cl2 is fast at 650℃ and the reaction is feasible during the OR process.

        It has long been speculated that the visual system should use a coding strategy that takes advantage of statistical redundancies in images. But how such a coding strategy should manifest in neural responses has been less clear. Low-level image structure related to the power spectrum of natural images appears to be captured by a hard-wired efficient code in the retina of the fly and precortical structures like the LGN of cats that maximizes information content through the limited capacity channel of the optic nerve. But visual images are typically filled with higher-order structure beyond that captured by the power spectrum and visual cortex is not constrained by the same capacity limits as the optic nerve. Whether and how visual cortex can flexibly code for higher order redundancies is unknown. Here we show using psychophysical techniques that the neural response in early human visual cortex may be modulated by orientation redundancies in images such that a visual feature that is contained within a predictive pattern results in slower reaction times than a feature that deviates from a pattern, suggesting lower neural responses to predictable stimuli in the visual cortex. Our results point to a neural response in early visual cortex that is sensitive to global patterns and redundancies in visual images and is in marked contrast to standard models of cortical visual processing.

        In marine ecosystems, the biosynthesis and catabolism of dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) by marine bacteria is critical to microbial survival and the ocean food chain. Furthermore, these processes also influence sulfur recycling and climate change. Recent studies using emerging genome sequencing data and extensive bioinformatics analysis have enabled us to identify new DMSP-related genes. Currently, seven bacterial DMSP lyases (DddD, DddP, DddY, DddK, DddL, DddQ and DddW), two acrylate degrading enzymes (DddA and DddC), and four demethylases (DmdA, DmdB, DmdC, and DmdD) have been identified and characterized in diverse marine bacteria. In this review, we focus on the biochemical properties of DMSP cleavage enzymes with special attention to DddD, DddA, and DddC pathways. These three enzymes function in the production of acetyl coenzyme A (CoA) and CO2 from DMSP. DddD is a DMSP lyase that converts DMSP to 3-hydroxypropionate with the release of dimethylsulfide. 3-Hydroxypropionate is then converted to malonate semialdehyde by DddA, an alcohol dehydrogenase. Then, DddC transforms malonate semialdehyde to acetyl-CoA and CO2 gas. DddC is a putative methylmalonate semialdehyde dehydrogenase that requires nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and CoA cofactors. Here we review recent insights into the structural characteristics of these enzymes and the molecular events of DMSP degradation.

        본 연구의 목적은 신체 전신 운동인 맵시 운동 프로그램을 중년여성들에게 8주간 적용하여 보행 시 수직 지면반력 크기, 발생시간, 압력 중심 요인들에 미치는 영향을 분석하는데 있었다. 본 연구의 피험자로 운동군 13명(연령, 41±4.4 세; 신장, 162.5±5.8 cm; 체중, 57.8±6.7 kg; 신체질량지수, 21.9±2.4 kg/m2), 대조군 12명(연령, 41.1±5.6 세; 신장, 160.9±5.5 cm; 체중, 576.2±8.1 kg; 신체질량 지수, 21.7±2.9 kg/m2) 총 25명이 참여하였다. 운동군은 7영역 23종 77동작의 맵시운동 프로그램을 8주간 주 3회 실시하였다. 보행 시 지면반력 요인들의 검증을 위하여 Two-way repeated measures ANOVA 를 실시하였으며, 사후검증은 bonferroni adjustment로 분석하였다(a=.05). 맵시 운동 프로그램의 운동군은 보행 시 FMWA와 FPO 시점까지의 소요 시간, FMWA와 FPO에서 발생한 수직 지면반발력 그리고 AP 방향 COP의 RMS 요인들에서 대조군에 비해 상대적으로 큰 수치를 나타내었다. 그러므로 8주간의 맵시 운동 프로그램은 보행을 수행하는 중년여성들의 가속과 감속 운동 기능을 향상시킨 것으로 나타났다.

        대부분의 연구자들은 반응시간기반 숨긴정보검사(RT CIT)의 탐지 효율성을 평가하기 위하여 실험연구를 수행한다. 실험연구에서 거짓말하는 상황을 만들기 위하여 주로 두 가지 실험 패러다임이 사용된다. 한 가지는 모의 범죄 패러다임이며, 다른 한 가지는 개인적 항목 패러다임이다. 본 연구의 목적은 실험 패러다임에 관계없이 RT CIT의 탐지 효율성이 동일하게 추정되는지 검증하는 것이다. 연구 1에서는 선행 연구들에 대한 메타분석을 통하여 두 가지 실험 패러다임 간에 RT CIT의 효과크기가 다른지 검증하였다. 39개 연구에 대한 메타분석 결과, 모의 범죄 패러다임 의 효과크기(Hedges의 g=1.330)가 개인적 항목 패러다임의 효과크기(g=1.145) 보다 약간 컸지만, 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 아니었다. 연구 2에서는 모의 범죄 패러다임 조건과 개인적 항목 패러다임 조건을 포함하는 실험연구를 수행하여, 실험 패러다임에 따라 RT CIT의 탐지 효율성이 다른지 검증하였다. 변량분석 결과, 관련자극과 무관련자극 간의 반응시간 차이가 실험 패러다임에 따라 통계적으로 유의하게 다르지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 실험연구에서 모의 범죄 패러다임의 효과크기(Cohen의 d)는 1.638이었으며, 개인적 항목 패러다임의 효과크기는 1.535였다. RT CIT의 탐지 효율성이 실험 패러다임에 영향을 받지 않는 이유에 대하여 논의하였다.
