        In order to analyze the sex-linked lethal mutagenic effects of ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) in Drosophila melanogaster, the mutagenicities from the attached-X and Basc method have been detected. The indexes of relative lethal mutations at 2.0 and 4.0mM EMS treated group using the attached-X method were about 1.5 and 2.4 times than that of 1.0mM treated group, respectively. EMS had more pronounced effect in the sperm and spermatid stages in the induction of X-linked lethal mutations during the spermatogenesis. And, in the induction of X-linked recessive lethal mutations from the Basc method, the mutation frequency of 4.0mM EMS treated group as compared with 2.0mM was more than three fold. Two assay systems used in this study can support mutually according to experimental purposes, and the area of its application can be considerably wide.

        분리한 보리호분층을 이용하여 (1-3)-β-glu-canase 와 (1-3,1-4)-β-glucanase 의GA3 에 대한 반응특성을 조사하였다 GA3 처리에 의해 호분충과 배양액 내의 단백질 함량, (1-3)-β-glucanase및(1-3,1-4)-β-glucanase 활성 등이 모두 증가하였다. 그러나 GA3 처리에 의한 효소활성 및 효소분비 증가 정도는 효소에 따라 큰 차이를 보였다. (1-3,1-4)-β-glucanase 가(1-3)-β-glucanase 보다 효소활성 증가 정도와 분비증가 정도 모두 컸다. 이와 같은 결과는 발아초기 (1-3,1-4)-β-glucanase 의 중요한 생리작용과 관계가 있을 것으로 생각되었다

        In order to examine the effect on the insolation of cloud cover, we analyzed the data of the insolation, cloud (over and surface air pressure in Pusan during the period of 1991. 10 - 1993.1. At first, we investigate the atmospheric transmissivity A(t) using the Beer`s law at clear skies. The atmospheric transmissivity is characterized by cold season high and warm season low. From this atmospheric transmissivity, the empirical formula that shows the variation of the insolation due to the cloud cover is obtained. The result formula is I = I_0 A(t^n)(0.7 - 0.05 × m ). I is the insolation that reaches the surface when cloud cover is m and I_0 is solar constant. Although the result is some rough it seems meaningful that the estimation of insolation can be made only from the routine data.

        Gernerally, it is difficult to predict water quality in a tidal river, because tidal flows make the transport phenomena more complicated. The purpose of this study is to clarify long-term mass transport in a tidal river through suggestion of simulation model. A simulation model based on a Lagrangian coordinate system, which has the advantage reducing numerical dispersion, was used to calculate changes in concentration of chlorides. Several field surveys were conducted to verify calculated results. Concludingly, long-term behavior of mas transport in a tidal river can be represented using the model.

        The regiospecific potential for the reductive dechlorination of 2-, 3-, 4-, 2,3-, 2,4-, and 3,4-chlorophenols (CPs) was studied in mono- and di-CP(DCP) adapted sediment slurries(10% solids). Freshwater sediments adapted to transform 2-CP dechlorinated all tested mono- and di-CPs except 4-CP without a lag period. Adaptation to 2-CP, thus, enhanced the onset of dechlorination of 3-CP and all ortho-substituted CPs tested. Sediment adapted to transform 3-CP dechlorinated all tested CPs, except 4-CP and 2,4-DCP, without a lag period. Sediments adapted lo individual DCPs (2,3-, 2,4-, and 3,4-DCP) exhibited dechlorination (no lag phase) of 2-CP, 2,3-, 2,4-, and 3.4-DCP. Interestingly, meta-cleavage of 3,4-DCP in all tested adapted sediment occurred, while para-cleavage occurred in 3,4-DCP adapted sediment. Sediments adapted to dechlorinate ortho and meta-chlorines exhibited a preference for meta following ortho-cleavage, but not for para-cleavage, while the preference for reductive dechlorination was ortho > meta > para for mono-CPs and ortho > para > meta for DCPs in unadapted freshwater anoxic sediments.

        Optimal biodegradation kinetics models to the initial nonylphenol ethoxylates-30 concentration were investigated and had been fitted by the linear regression. Microorganisms capable of degrading nonylphenol ethoxylates-30 were isolated from sewage near Ulsan plant area by enrichment culture technique. Among them, the strain designated as EL-10K had the highest biodegradability and was identified as Pseudomonas from results of taxonomical studies. The optimal conditions for the biodegradation were 1.0 g/l of nonylphenol ethoxylates-30 and 0.02 g/l of ammonium nitrate at pH 7.0 and 30℃. The highest degradation rate of nonylphenol ethoxylates-30 was about 89% for 30 hours incubation on the optimal condition. Biodegradation date were fit by linear regression to equations for 3 kinetic models. The kinetics of biodegradation of nonylphenol ethoxylates was best described by first order model for 0.1 ㎍/l nonylphenol ethoxylates-30 ; by Monod no growth model and Monod with growth model for 0.5 ㎍/ml and 1.0, 5.0 ㎍/ml, respectively.

        In order to find the most fitted biodegradation model, biodegradation models to the initial 4-chlorophenol concentrations were investigated and had been fitted by the linear regression. The degrading bacterium, EL-091S, was selected among phenol-degraders. The strain was identified with Pseudomonas sp. from the result of taxonomical studies. The optimal condition for the biodegradation was as fellows: secondary carbon source, concentration of ammonium nitrate, temperature and pH were 200㎎/l fructose, 600 ㎎/l, 30℃ and 7.0 respectively. The highest degradation rate of the 4-chlorophenol was about 58% for 24 hours incubation on the optimal condition. Biodegradation kinetics model of 5 ㎎/l 4-Chlorophenol, 10 ㎎/l 4-chlorophenol and 50 ㎎/l 4-chlorophenol were fitted the zero order kinetics model, respectively.
