The subfamily Pimplinae currently include 1,737 worldwide species in 77 genera. 57 species in 18 genera have been recorded from South Korea. Among them, the genus Scambus is a moderate sized group in the subfamily Pimplinae with 152 described species from Nearctic, Neotropical, Oriental and Palaearctic regions. The taxonomic study of the South Korean Scambus was initiated by Uchida (1928), who reported one species, Scambus calobatus (Gravenhorst, 1829). The genus Tromatobia is small group in this subfamily with 33 species from Afrotropical, Austrian, Nearctic, Neotropical, Oriental and Palaearctic regions. This genus was newly recorded from South Korea for the first time. In this study, we report seven unrecorded South Korean species, Scambus nigricans (Thomson, 1877), Scambus vesicarius (Ratzeburg, 1844), Tromatobia flavistellata Uchida & Momoi, 1957, Tromatobia nipponica Uchida, 1928, Tromatobia ornata (Gravenhorst, 1829), Tromatobia ovivora (Boheman, 1821) and Tromatobia variabilis (Holmgren, 1856).

The family Nabidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cimicomorpha) is a cosmopolitan family of medium-sized (4-12 mm.) predatory groups in true bugs. Among them, 10 genera and approximately 130 species are distributed in the Palaearctic region. Most Nabidae are predators on various stages of insects (e.g., aphids, leafhoppers and lepidopteran eggs and young caterpillars), but several genera within the subfamily Prostemmatinae (e.g., Prostemma, Alloeorhynchus and Pagasa) are specialized predators of true bugs, especially of the family Lygaeidae. Most Nabinae are herbicolous and arboricolous, whereas all Prostemmatinae are ground-inhabiting (in litter layer, under stones, etc.). In this talk the family Nabidae is reviewed from Korea including two unrecorded species and one new species. The morphological information such as description and diagnoses, and biological information for each species are provided.

Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) are well known as micro-insect pests, which are very specific to their host plants, sucking phloem for acquiring nutrients, and most of them have successfully maintained parthenogenetic generations cyclically or permanently. In the world, the approximately 5,000 described aphid species belong to the family Aphididae, which has taxonomically been subdivided into 27 subfamilies. We have revised the checklist of the Korean aphids based on 54 publications which include the catalogues, checklists, faunistic researches, and taxonomic reports treating the aphids in the Korean Peninsula since 1927. As results, we confirmed that a total of 438 valid species (species names) of 143 genera in 16 subfamilies had been historically recognized in the Korean Peninsula after checking classifications and invalid names (misidentifications, synonyms, and etc.). We also will introduce the diversity of the Korean aphids.

Apristus Chaudoir is one of the genera in the tribe Lebiini Bonelli (Coleoptera: Carabidae). This genus is morphologically similar to Anomotarus and Syntomus of Lebiini. However, Apristus can be distinguished from the other genera by having a combination of the following characteristics: basal pronotum with distinct posterior angles in dorsal view; tarsal claws smooth without denticulate or pectinate. A total of 61 species of Apristus are distributed worldwide and only one species, Apristus striatus Motschulsky has been known in the Korean peninsula. As results of taxonomic studies on Korean Apristus species, we discovered a newly recorded species, Apristus cuprascens Bates of Apristus. A key to the Korean Apristus species, photographs of diagnostic characteristics and illustrations of male genitalia are provided.

Diversity and distribution of entomopathogenic nematodes were surveyed in Korea from 2010 to 2014. Soil samples were examined for the presence of steinernematid and heterorhabditid nematodes by baiting method with Galleria mellonella larvae. Out of the 189 soil samples, 47(24.9%) were positive for entomopathogenic nematodes, with the share of 7(3.7%) for Heterorhabditis and 40(21.2%) for Steinernema isolates. Morphological and molecular studies were also utilized to characterize isolates. The Heterorhabditis isolates were identified as H. megidis and Steinernema isolates as S. carpocapsae, S. monticolum and S. kraussei, respectively. H. megidis was the most common species of Heterorhabditis, which was isolated from 7 sites across the five different provinces and Steinernema monticolum was the most common species of Steinernema, which was isolated from 34 sites, respectively. S. carpocapsae was isolated from only two sites, Namwon, Jeongnam province and Iksan, Jeonbuk province, respectively. S. kraussei was the first recorded entomopathogenic nematode in Korea. Those entomopathogenic nematodes were recorded from coniferous and deciduous forests.

For reviewing Korean species of Denticollinae and reconstructing phylogenetic relationships between subfamilies in Elateridae, three kinds of studies were conducted: 1) taxonomic review based on morphology; 2) DNA barcode for Denticollinae; 3) molecular phylogenetic study of Elateridae using 12 genetic markers. In taxonomic study, a total of 54 species were reviewed including 13 new species and then unrecorded species. In DNA barcoding, six cryptic and/or pseudocryptic species were confirmed by their sympatric or allopatric distribution. We propose a conservative threshold of 3.6% for convenient molecular operational taxonomic unit identification in Denticollinae. From this study, we confirmed that COI sequence is useful for reassessing species diversity for polymorphic and polytypic species occurring in sympatric and allopatric distributions. In molecular phylogenetic study, the phylogenetic inference constructed robust phylogeny with almost very strongly supported nodal values(>90%) and showed that Hypnoidinae, Oxynopterinae and Denticollinae are monophyletic; Elaterinae, Hemiopinae and Melanotinae are a monophyletic group; and two tribes in Denticollinae are paraphyletic, it is needed to reclassify their systematic accounts.
