In the time of the rule of Japanese imperialism, Japanese style official residence played major role at the implantation of modern dwellings into Korea and its influences on Korean modern dwellings are distinguishable. This study focuses on the Japanese style official residence implanted into Korea before 1910. Before 1910 Japanese civilians in Korea builded just a traditional Japanese dwellings at the Japanese settlement in the ports opened. But Japanese engineers engaged in governmental organization of construction in the Old-Korean Empire builded a central corridor type Japanese dwellings as official residence. The central corridor type Japanese dwelling was an urban dwelling compromised between Japanese style and western style and distinguished by an outer-court type plan, Japanese entrance hall, central corridor and western style reception room. It is certified that the central corridor type Japanese dwelling was implanted into Korea before 1910 and this was the first time an urban dwelling to be implanted and spread through the whole Korea. The central corridor type Japanese dwelling implanted into Korea took in On-Dol and transformed to Korea-Japanese eclectic style. The central corridor type Japanese dwellings implanted into Korea in the time of the rule of Japanese imperialism makes function as a precedent of a modern urban dwelling to Korean and makes Korean dwellings transform from the rural inner court type into the urban outer court type.

This paper aims to explore Korean genitive noun phrases ``N1의 N2`` that are also translated in French as genitive noun phrases ``N2 de N1``. My discussion centers on describing two things: (a) What are linguistic factors by which N1 and N2 in Korean not accompanying any article are respectively preceded by one of the two articles: the indefinite article and the definite article. (b) What are linguistic environments by which N1 and N2 in Korean can be respectively translated in French as one of the four noun phrases: generic noun phrases, specific noun phrases, non-specific noun phrases and predicative noun phrases.

Chung Moo-Joo. 1997. Functions of the Articles Related to Definiteness. Studies in Modern Grammatical Theories 10: 47-62. In this paper, it has been argued that the articles in English possess both a referential and an expressive function. So far, the studies of definiteness have been confined to a referential view of definiteness. All these approaches focus exclusively on the articles` contribution to reference, that is, on the way the articles help NPs establish the existence of and individuate entities in the universe of discourse. In addition to their referential function, however, the articles also possess an expressive function. In particular, the definite article can be used expressively as a marker of prominence, and the indefinite article can be used expressively as a means of de-emphasizing a referent`s individual identity. Evidence for these functions was drawn principally from the fact that different articles can often be used to describe the same objective situation. In particular, we examined discourses in which the could be used felicitously (for expressive reasons) even though α was referentially more appropriate (a basis for unique identifiability was lacking). We also examined discourses in which α could be used felicitously (for expressive reasons) even though the was referentially more appropriate.
