        The power and scale of 950 hPa typhoon "Maemi" which struck the shore of Gosung in Kyungnam Province was same as that of 951 hPa typhoon "Saraho" in 1959. For the purpose of getting the safety of training ship "KAYA", we anchored at Jinhae Bay with riding at two anchors paid out 8 shackles of cable respectively. By the way when wind force being over 30m/s, we could not keep the safety of the ship "KAYA" by means of the holding power of an anchor only. Just by using the main engine moderately, we were able to maintain the security of the ship. The holding the main engine moderately, we were able to maintain the security of the ship. The holding power of an anchor according to the way of anchoring, the quality of sea bottom, the direction and speed of wind and current, and the length of an anchor cable were analyzed. The obtained results are summarized as follows : 1. When riding at two anchors rather than lying at single anchor we could get a good holding power. 2. There was a big difference in holding power according to the quality of the bottom. 3. It would be best anchoring in a soft mud area than in any other place as possible. 4. It would also be desirable to set anchor shackles much more than equipment number prescribed in regulation in order to get safety of a ship providing against typhoon.

        Ship operators use anchor dredging for the collision avoidance or safety of ship handling in a harbour or narrow channel. This paper clarifies the technique of the anchor dredging known as a common sense for. the seafarers A mathematical model at low speed range is established for the estimation of ship motion under the assumed environment, simulate the advance speed , and turning ability under the anchor dredging or not. The results shows good agreement with the conventional seamanship and their experiences as follows. Ahead speed used the anchor dredging is slower(speed reduction ratio:40%) than the normal ahead speed and the stopping distance is shorter (distance reduction ratio:40%)than the normal ahead distance without the anchor dredging.. Turning speed used anchor dredging is slower(speed reduction ratio:72%)than the normal ahead speed and the tactical diameter is shorter(distance reduction ratio:24%)than the diameter by the normal turning without the anchor dredging.

        남해안에서 정치망 어구의 고정용으로 사용되고 있는 닻가지(fluke)가 하나인 스톡형닻(A형), 닻가지 2개가 한 방향으로 달려 있는 스톡형닻(B형), 닻가지 2개가 좌우로 달려 있는 스톡형닻(C형) 세가지의 모형을 제작하여 들의 종류(펄, 모래, 모래펄)와 닻줄의 길이(수심의 2배, 2.5배, 3배, 3.5배, 4배)에 따른 모형별 장력, 파주력, 파주력계수를 비교 분석하였다. 모형실험의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 장력과 파주력은 저질별로는 펄에서 가장 크고, 모래펄, 모래 순으로 작아진다. 닻줄의 길이에 따라서는 닻줄이 길어질수록 장력과 파주력이 커지는 현상을 보였고, 닻의 종류별로는 B형이 가장 크고, A형, C형의 순으로 나타났다. 2. 닻가지의 단위면책당 파주력은 닻줄이 짧을 때는 A형이 가장 크고, 길 때는 A형과 B형이 거의 비슷하며, C형은 모든 길이에서 A형과 B형에 비하여 거의 절반 수준이었다. 3. 파주력계수는 펄에서 가장 크고, 모래펄, 모래 순이며, 닻의 종류별로는 A형이 가장 크고, B형, C형의 순으로 나타났다. 4. 정치망 고정용 닻의 성능은 조류방향이 항상 일정한 어장에서는 A형이 우수하며, 이상조류가 발생하는 어장에서는 B형이 어구의 안정적인 고정을 위하여 우수할 것으로 판단된다.

        En coastal area, many submarine facilities such as pipes and cables are installed on/under the sea bed. Also, there are heavy traffic due to numerous vessels which call in ports or navigate passages in adjacent water. Therefore, the frequency of dropping anchors will be increased to avoid various dangerous situations. When an anchor is dropped from vessel on the sea bed, the anchor strikes on the sea bed, and then, the anchor penetrates to certain depth into the sea bed. In this case, sometimes submarine facilities on/under the sea bed may be damaged by the strike or the maximum penetrating depth of anchor. In this paper, some approximate equations on the strike and the penetrating depth of anchors have been derived on the basis of actual data, and the results are expected to use as basic design data of related facilities.
